Nectar Sleep offers a memory foam mattress using better quality foam materials relative to its rivals at a much lower cost. Do not be tricked into believing the Nectar mattress isn’t of the same caliber as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Alwyn Memory Foam Mattress Review
Having gel memory foam quilted into the base of the cover and also a layer of memory foam under, the Nectar contours well, but doesn’t have the exact same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam along with the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than many memory foam models.
A support core consisting of high-density polyfoam is made to withstand the test of time. Given its makeup, we project the Nectar to survive at least 7-8 years, which makes it a durable choice.
The Nectar is difficult to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for an affordable bed built with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Alwyn Memory Foam Mattress Review
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has used a smart strategy of cheeky advertising and focused product development to evolve into one of the biggest competitors in the online bed-in-a-box marketplace. Alwyn Memory Foam Mattress Review
Considering its popularity, the brand is often compared to Purple and Casper, two giants in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all three mattresses have substantially distinct feels (which I will dissect in detail later in this review), they do gain from a similar amount of brand recognition and notoriety on websites likes ours and Reddit.
It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far less expensive than the Casper or even the Purple, both of which come in at about $1,000.

Construction Alwyn Memory Foam Mattress Review
Let’s get started with the Nectar mattress review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress made up of three different layers that pile up to an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is its humungous 4″ of memory foam up top, which results in a significant amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how all this comes together, let us dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is comprised of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco-friendly substance famous for its breathability and softness. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which offers the sleeper with some instant comfort. The combo of the gel infusion and Tencel fibers make for an ultra-cool layer which will help regulate temperatures throughout the evening.
Comfort Layer – Right below the cover, you will encounter 3″ of memory foam. This material has an incredibly slow response to stress, allowing the sleeper to really sink in for some gratifying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you’re likely to feel like you’re sleeping more”in” the bed compared to”on top” of it, which could be a pleasant feel for side sleepers in need of cushiony support in the shoulders and hips.
Transition Layer – Next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a marginally quicker response to pressure than the foams above it. This section is supposed to ease the sleeper into the firmer base below, helping extend the contouring of the comfort layer deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we have got 6 inches of high-density poly foam. This section gives the mattress its stability and contour, offering a firm foundation upon which the softer foams can respond.
After taking a look at the construction of the Nectar, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying some light hand pressure to the mattress and discovered I was immediately interacting with all the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the Nectar, with the gentle foams contouring around my palms. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the mattress.
Since people of different body types and sizes will feel stability differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to check out the Nectar Sleep mattress. We all took a turn lying on the mattress, and gave it a personal evaluation, and then compiled them on the chart below.
While feel is always going to be a personal thing, our responses should give you with a good idea of the firmness range you may expect from the mattress.
Though there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did finish on an average firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the industry standard for medium firmness.
Personally, I gave the Nectar a 6 because I found its thick memory foam layers produced a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Irrespective of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the material contouring to the shape of my body, resulting in some pretty awesome sinkage. While this translated to a softer rating for mepersonally, some sleepers could find memory foam to provide a firmer feel as their bodies slowly acclimate into its morphing shape.
Another important component of a new mattress’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to form while lying on top of it.
To help you picture where these pressure points may arise, I put a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can find the results on the chart below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the soft memory foam top layers contoured to my entire body and filled in the space in my thoracic region. Even though you may find memory foam to have an initially firm texture, as soon as you give your body a couple of minutes to sink in, you will find that it’s actually quite giving. A trade off for this satisfying pressure relief is that I did find it somewhat difficult to move around and change positions. Alwyn Memory Foam Mattress Review
Edge Support – Testing out the edge support of this bed, I did detect some compression in the soft foam top layers. But, the high-density poly foam base did a good job of supporting my weight in this position, which allowed me to feel safe on the side of the Nectar.
Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel great pressure relief from this mattress. Side sleepers have a tendency to prefer softer mattresses that shape snuggly into the shoulders and buttocks, and the Nectar more than delivers on this front.
Stomach – Regrettably, this comfort didn’t necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my belly. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink out of alignment with my shoulders, which made for a little tension along my spine. In general, stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses, therefore I was not too surprised by this result.
Next, let us take a look at motion transfer. This evaluation will demonstrate the quantity of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress to the other, which might be particularly important for those of you who share their mattress with a partner.
To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Every drop is intended to signify a different movement you are likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are incredible motion transfer results! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to soften movement across the structure, making sure you will not be too bothered by your mattress mate’s tossing and turning in the night.
When buying a new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the bed or lying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the bed and measured how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Alwyn Memory Foam Mattress Review
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly thought these results would be a little more intense! As I moved around the Nectar, I was surprised by how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it’s sort of surprising to see that the real measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the market. That said, you are still more likely to feel like you’re sleeping “in” the Nectar as opposed to “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we have broken down the specific, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let’s expand the scope and have a peek at a few of its biggest competitors in the game. While each bed has unique characteristics which make it a different product in the space, it can be useful to contextualize these differences against other beds. Plus, who doesn’t love a tiny cross-referencing before making a large purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing apples and oranges — both are great in their own right, but inherently different products.
– Among the most noticeable distinctions comes in the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a bouncy material that provides pressure relief without too much body contouring.
– The hyper-elastic polymer grid additionally makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, resulting in a much cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.
– And finally, where the Nectar has practically no bounce, the Purple has an enormous quantity of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
While both the Casper and Nectar are built completely of foam, they actually have incredibly divergent feels, with the latter featuring considerably more sinkage compared to the former.
– Additionally, one of the standout attributes of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which brings targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.
– This means that the Casper has a more balanced feel compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a larger selection of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike the majority of other memory foam mattresses that tend to sleep a little hot, the Nectar offers a high amount of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired together with the infused cover keeps it cool, while giving maximum comfort.
With the Nectar being a high density foam, some may find it a little warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.
Overall, our research did show that the Nectar is most definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses in the marketplace today.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh out of the box, the mattress is going to have a fairly powerful odor for the first two days. But after, the smell starts to fade, and within a week is totally gone.
So, if the smell is something which actually bothers you, I suggest not sleeping on it for the first two days.Alwyn Memory Foam Mattress Review
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar mattress could be sat directly on a box spring. Or if you want, a platform or any other flat supportive surface. In addition, it can be used with any adjustable bed frame, which can fit an 11′ mattress.
You can also use the Nectar right on the ground if that’s what you would prefer to do. Just make sure that there is not any water or moisture around.
What Is The Best Way To Care For Your Nectar?
The Nectar requires no flipping. However, it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps one or two times per year to prevent it from excessive sagging or from wearing down.
For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water with mild dish soap, to clean any stains or dirt. Always wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.

Is the Nectar Mattress Right For You?
Now that we’ve taken a closer look at the mattress, I am going to provide you with a few recommendations and some of the most common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I’d suggest the Nectar for anyone who wants that classic memory foam texture, deep body shaping and all.
– More specifically, I’d say this mattress might be a real winner for side sleepers, who will gain from its cushiony pressure relief in the shoulders and hips.
– Considering its superb motion transfer and edge support results, I’d also say the Nectar could be a solid pick for couples.
– While a great deal of people will enjoy the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I’d say that stomach sleepers may find that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.
– It also has virtually no bounce, which could be a dealbreaker for those sleepers looking for some buoyant support.
