Nectar Sleep offers a memory foam mattress with better quality foam materials relative to its rivals at a far lower cost. Don’t be fooled into believing the Nectar mattress is not of the same quality as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Are Nectar Mattresses Toxic

Having gel memory foam built into the base of the cover and a layer of memory foam under, the Nectar shapes well, but doesn’t have the same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam and the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than most memory foam models.

A support core consisting of high-density polyfoam is built to withstand the test of time. Given its makeup, we project the Nectar to last at least 7-8 years, making it a durable choice.

The Nectar is hard to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for an affordable bed built with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Are Nectar Mattresses Toxic

Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has employed a clever strategy of cheeky marketing and concentrated product development to evolve into one of the greatest competitors in the online bed-in-a-box market. Are Nectar Mattresses Toxic

Considering its popularity, the brand is frequently compared to Casper and Purple, two behemoths in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all 3 mattresses have considerably different feels (which I will dissect in detail later in this review), they do gain from a similar amount of name recognition and notoriety on sites likes ours and Reddit.

It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is more affordable than either the Casper or the Purple, each of which come in at about $1,000.

Construction Are Nectar Mattresses Toxic

Let’s begin with the Nectar bed review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress made up of three different layers that stack up to an 11″ profile. The most notable aspect of the Nectar’s construction is its whopping 4″ of memory foam up top, which leads to a significant amount of body contouring and sinkage.

To see how this comes together, let’s dive into the mattress!

Nectar Mattress Layers

Cover – The cover is made up of of both cotton and Tencel,

an eco-friendly material known for its breathability and softness. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which offers the sleeper with some immediate relaxation. The combo of the Tencel fibers and gel infusion make for an ultra-cool layer that’ll help regulate temperatures throughout the evening.

Comfort Layer – Right under the cover, you’ll encounter 3″ of memory foam. This material has a remarkably slow response to stress, allowing the sleeper to really sink in for some satisfying pressure relief. As the foam shapes to the curves of your body, you are likely to feel like you’re sleeping more”in” the bed compared to”on top” of it, which may be a pleasant feel for side sleepers in need of cushiony support in the shoulders and buttocks.

Transition Layer – Up next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a slightly quicker reaction to pressure compared to the foams over it. This section is meant to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer foundation below, helping to extend the shaping of the comfort layer deeper into the mattress.

Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we have got 6″ of high-density poly foam. This section gives the bed its firmness and contour, providing a firm foundation upon which the softer foams will react.

Firmness

After having a peek at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting some light hand pressure to the mattress and found I was immediately interacting with all the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the Nectar, with all the gentle foams contouring round my fingers. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the mattress.

Since people of different body types and sizes are going to feel stability differently, I decided to bring in three other testers to check out the Nectar Sleep mattress. All of us took turns lying on the mattress, and gave it a personal rating, then compiled them onto the chart below.

nectar-firmness-chart

While feel is always going to be a personal thing, our answers should give you with a good notion of the firmness range you may expect from the bed.

Are Nectar Mattresses Toxic

Though there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did finish on an average firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the market standard for medium firmness.

Personally, I gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers gave a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Regardless of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the curves of my body, resulting in some pretty awesome sinkage. While this translated into a softer rating for me, a few sleepers could find memory foam to provide a firmer feel as their bodies slowly acclimate to its morphing shape.

Pressure Map

Another important part of a new mattress’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are most likely to form while lying on top of it.

To help you picture where these pressure points may crop up, I put a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

nectar-pressure-map

Back – Lying on my back, I felt some fantastic pressure relief as the gentle memory foam top layers shaped to my entire body and filled in the space at my lumbar region. Even though you might find memory foam to have an initially firm texture, as soon as you provide your body a couple of minutes to sink in, you will discover that it’s actually rather giving. A trade off for this gratifying pressure relief is that I did find it a bit difficult to move around and change positions. Are Nectar Mattresses Toxic

Edge Support – Testing the edge support on this mattress, I did discover some compression in the soft foam top layers. However, the high-density poly foam foundation did a fantastic job of supporting my weight in this position, which allowed me to feel safe on the side of the mattress.

Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers have a tendency to prefer softer mattresses that shape snuggly into the shoulders and buttocks, and the Nectar more than delivers on this front.

Stomach – Regrettably, this comfort didn’t necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my belly. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink from alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my spine. In general, stomach sleepers typically opt for firmer mattresses, so I was not too surprised by this outcome.

Motion Transfer

Next, let us take a look at motion transfer. This test will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other, which could be particularly important for those who share their mattress with a partner.

To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

FYI: Each drop is intended to signify a different movement you are most likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).

nectar-motion-transfer

These are amazing motion transfer results! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to dampen movement across the structure, making sure that you won’t be too bothered by your bed partner’s tossing and turning in the night.

Sinkage Test

When purchasing a new bed, most people want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of different densities and sizes (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.

The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers.

6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Are Nectar Mattresses Toxic

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.

I honestly believed these results would be a bit more intense! As I rolled around the Nectar, I was surprised by how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is kind of surprising to see that the actual measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the market. That being said, you are still more likely to feel as though you are sleeping “in” the Nectar instead of “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition

Now that we’ve broken down the specific, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let us widen the scope and have a look at a few of its main competitors in the game. While each bed has unique characteristics which make it a distinctive product in the market, it can be useful to contextualize these differences against other beds. Plus, who doesn’t love a tiny cross-referencing before making a big purchase?

Nectar vs Purple

Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing oranges and apples — both are lovely in their own right, but inherently different products.

– Among the most noticeable differences comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a really bouncy material that provides pressure relief without too much body contouring.

– This hyper-elastic polymer grid additionally makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, resulting in a much cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.

– And lastly, wherein the Nectar has virtually no bounce, the Purple has an enormous amount of buoyant support.

Nectar vs Casper

While both the Casper and Nectar are built completely of foam, they actually have unbelievably divergent feels, with the latter featuring much more sinkage compared to the former.

– Also, one of the standout features of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which provides targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.

– This means the Casper has a more balanced feel than the Nectar, endearing it to a wider range of sleepers.

Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar

Does It Sleep Hot?

Unlike most other memory foam mattresses that generally sleep a bit warm, the Nectar offers a high amount of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired together with the infused cover keeps the temperature cool, while giving maximum comfort.

Because the Nectar is a high density foam, some could find it somewhat warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.

In general, our study did show that the Nectar is definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market nowadays.

Does It Have Any Smell?

Fresh out of the box, the mattress will have a fairly powerful odor for the first two days. But after, the smell starts to fade, and in just a week is completely gone.

So, if the smell is something which really bothers you, I suggest not sleeping on it the first couple days. Are Nectar Mattresses Toxic

Does It Require A Foundation?

The Nectar could be sat right on a box spring. Or if you prefer, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. In addition, it can be used with almost any adjustable bed frame, which can fit an 11′ mattress.

You can also use the Nectar right on the floor if that is what you’d like to do. Just make sure there is not any moisture or water around.

What’s The Best Way To Take Care Of The Nectar?

The Nectar requires no flipping. However, it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from excessive sagging or from wearing down.

For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water with mild dish soap, to clean any stains or dirt. Always clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.

How Durable Is The Nectar Mattress?

In comparison to other foam mattresses, the Nectar according to our studies has a very long lifespan.

The Nectar is made with high quality materials and matches  all industry standards. According to our research, the Nectar scores an 80 percent owner satisfaction rating and continues to increase in popularity today.

What is Nectar’s Warranty?

Nectar offers their exceptional “Forever Warranty”

This exceptional warranty guarantees Nectar materials, construction, quality, and durability to the purchasing party for life.

Since the business stands firmly behind their mattress, they’re convinced that buyers will find the Nectar to be the only mattress they could possibly want or need.

After the initial 5 years, repairs and replacements will be honored for a one time shipping fee of $100. If a flaw is found, the $100 will be waived.

Is the Nectar Mattress Right For You?

Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the bed, I want to give you a few recommendations and some of the very common Nectar complaints:

Recommendations

– First and foremost, I’d suggest the Nectar for everyone who wants that classic memory foam texture, deep body shaping and all.

– More specifically, I’d say this mattress might be a real winner for side sleepers, who will gain from its cushiony pressure relief at the shoulders and hips.

– Considering its superb motion transfer and edge support outcomes, I would also say the Nectar could be a solid pick for couples.

Nectar Complaints

– While a lot of folks will dig the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I’d say that stomach sleepers may find that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.

– It also has virtually no bounce, which might be a dealbreaker for those sleepers looking for some buoyant support.
