Nectar Sleep sells a memory foam mattress with better quality foam materials relative to its competitors at a much lower cost. Don’t be fooled into thinking the Nectar mattress is not of the same quality as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Budget Friendly Memory Foam Mattress
Using gel memory foam quilted into the base of the cover and a layer of memory foam under, the Nectar contours well, but does not have the exact same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam and the absence of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than many memory foam models.
A support core consisting of high-density polyfoam is made to withstand the test of time. Given its construct, we expect the Nectar to survive at least 7-8 years, making it a durable option.
The Nectar is difficult to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for an affordable mattress constructed with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Budget Friendly Memory Foam Mattress
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has used a smart strategy of cheeky advertising and concentrated product development to evolve into one of the biggest players in the online bed-in-a-box market. Budget Friendly Memory Foam Mattress
Considering its prevalence, the brand is frequently compared to Purple and Casper, two giants in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all 3 mattresses have considerably different feels (which I will dissect in detail later in this review), they do benefit from a similar amount of brand recognition and notoriety on sites likes ours and Reddit.
It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far more affordable than the Casper or the Purple, each of which come in at roughly $1,000.

Construction Budget Friendly Memory Foam Mattress
Let’s get started with the Nectar bed review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress composed of three different layers that pile up to an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is its whopping 4″ of memory foam on top, which leads to a significant amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how all this comes together, let’s dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is comprised of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco friendly material known for its softness and breathability. Additionally, there’s an inch of gel memory foam built into the cover, which provides the sleeper with some immediate comfort. The combo of the Tencel fibers and gel infusion make for an ultra-cool layer which will help regulate temperatures during the evening.
Comfort Layer – Right under the cover, you’ll encounter 3″ of memory foam. This material has a remarkably slow reaction to pressure, letting the sleeper to really sink in for some satisfying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you’re likely to feel as though you’re sleeping more”in” the bed compared to”on top” of it, which could be a pleasant feel for side sleepers in need of cushiony support in the shoulders and buttocks.
Transition Layer – Up next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a slightly quicker reaction to pressure than the foams over it. This section is meant to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer foundation under, helping to extend the shaping of the comfort layer even deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we’ve got 6″ of high-density poly foam. This section provides the bed its firmness and shape, offering a firm foundation upon which the softer foams will react.
After taking a look at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting some light hand pressure into the mattress and discovered I was immediately interacting with all the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the mattress, with all the gentle foams contouring round my palms. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the mattress.
Since folks of different body types and sizes are going to feel stability differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to have a look at the Nectar Sleep mattress. We all took a turn lying on the bed, and gave it a personal rating, and then compiled them onto the chart below.
While feel is always going to be a personal thing, our responses should give you with a good idea of the firmness range you may expect from the bed.
Though there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did end on an average firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs perfectly with the market standard for medium firmness.
Personally, I gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers gave a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Irrespective of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the curves of my body, resulting in some pretty awesome sinkage. While this translated into a softer rating for me, a few sleepers could find memory foam to provide a firmer feel as their bodies gradually acclimate into its morphing contour.
Another important component of a new bed’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to shape while lying on top of it.
To help you visualize where these pressure points may crop up, I put a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can find the results on the chart below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the soft memory foam top layers contoured to my body and filled in the space in my thoracic region. Even though you may find memory foam to have an initially firm feel, once you provide your body a few minutes to sink in, you will find that it’s actually rather giving. A trade off to this satisfying pressure relief is that I did find it somewhat hard to move around and change positions. Budget Friendly Memory Foam Mattress
Edge Support – Testing the edge support of this mattress, I did detect some compression in the soft foam top layers. But, the high-density poly foam base did a fantastic job of supporting my weight in this position, which allowed me to feel secure on the side of the bed.
Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers tend to prefer softer mattresses which shape snuggly to the shoulders and hips, and the Nectar more than delivers on that front.
Stomach – Regrettably, this comfort did not necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my belly. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink from alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my spine. Overall, stomach sleepers typically opt for firmer mattresses, therefore I was not too surprised by this outcome.
Next, let us take a look at motion transfer. This test will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress to the other, which could be particularly critical for those who share their mattress with a partner.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is meant to symbolize a different movement you’re most likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are incredible motion transfer outcomes! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to soften movement throughout the structure, making sure that you won’t be too bothered by your mattress mate’s tossing and turning in the evening.
When purchasing a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to mimic different body components and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Budget Friendly Memory Foam Mattress
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly believed these results would be a little more intense! As I rolled around the Nectar, I was struck by just how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is sort of surprising to find that the real measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the marketplace. That said, you’re still more likely to feel as though you’re sleeping “in” the Nectar as opposed to “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we’ve broken down the specific, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let’s widen the scope and have a look at a few of its biggest rivals in the game. While each bed has unique features which make it a distinctive product in the space, it can be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other mattresses. Plus, who does not love a tiny cross-referencing prior to making a large purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Purple and Nectar is like comparing apples and oranges — both are lovely in their own right, but fundamentally different products.
– One of the very noticeable differences comes in the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a really bouncy material that provides pressure relief without an excessive amount of body contouring.
– This hyper-elastic polymer grid additionally makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, resulting in a much cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.
– And finally, wherein the Nectar has virtually no bounce, the Purple has an enormous amount of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
Although the Casper and Nectar are built entirely of foam, they actually have incredibly divergent feels, with the latter featuring considerably more sinkage compared to the former.
– Also, one of the standout attributes of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which brings targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.
– This also means that the Casper has a more balanced feel compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a wider range of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike most other memory foam mattresses that generally sleep a little hot, the Nectar provides a high amount of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired together with the infused cover keeps the temperature cool, while giving maximum comfort.
With the Nectar being a high density foam, some could find it somewhat warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.
Overall, our study did reveal that the Nectar is definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market today.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh from the box, the mattress will have a fairly strong odor for the first 2 days. But after, the odor starts to fade, and within a week is totally gone.
So, if the odor is something that really bothers you, then I suggest not sleeping on it for the first two days.Budget Friendly Memory Foam Mattress
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar mattress can be sat right on a box spring. Or if you prefer, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. In addition, it can be utilized with any adjustable bed frame, that can fit an 11 inch mattress.
You can also use the Nectar directly on the ground if that’s what you would prefer to do. Just make sure that there is not any moisture or water around.
What Is The Best Way To Take Care Of The Nectar?
The Nectar needs no flipping. However, it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down or from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it is advised to use cool water with mild dish detergent, to clean any dirt or stains. Always wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.

Is the Nectar Mattress Right For You?
Now that we’ve taken a closer look at the mattress, I want to give you a few recommendations and some of the most common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I’d recommend the Nectar for everyone who desires that classic memory foam texture, deep body contouring and all.
– More importantly, I would say this mattress might be a real winner for side sleepers, who will gain from its cushiony pressure relief in the shoulders and buttocks.
– Considering its superb motion transfer and edge support outcomes, I would also say the Nectar might be a solid choice for couples.
– While a great deal of folks will dig the thick layers of memory foam in this mattress, I’d say that tummy sleepers may find that it sends their buttocks out of alignment with their shoulders.
– It also has almost no rebound, which might be a dealbreaker for those sleepers looking for some buoyant support.
