Nectar Sleep sells a memory foam mattress using better quality foam materials relative to its rivals at a much lower cost. Don’t be fooled into believing the Nectar mattress isn’t of the same caliber as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Does Nectar Bed Smell
Using gel memory foam built into the bottom of the cover and a layer of memory foam under, the Nectar shapes well, but doesn’t have the same hug frequently associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam along with the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than many memory foam models.
A support core consisting of high-density polyfoam is made to withstand the test of time. Given its construct, we expect the Nectar to survive at least 7-8 years, which makes it a durable choice.
The Nectar is hard to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for an affordable bed built with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Does Nectar Bed Smell
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has employed a smart strategy of cheeky advertising and concentrated product development to evolve into one of the greatest competitors in the online bed-in-a-box marketplace. Does Nectar Bed Smell
Considering its popularity, the brand is often compared to Purple and Casper, two behemoths in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all 3 mattresses have substantially distinct feels (which I’ll dissect in full later on in this review), they do gain from a similar amount of name recognition and notoriety on websites likes ours and Reddit.
It’s worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far less expensive than either the Casper or even the Purple, each of which come in at roughly $1,000.

Construction Does Nectar Bed Smell
Let us begin with the Nectar bed review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress composed of three distinct layers that stack up to an 11″ profile. The most notable aspect of the Nectar’s construction is the whopping 4″ of memory foam on top, which results in a considerable amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how all this comes together, let us dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is made up of of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco friendly substance known for its breathability and softness. Additionally, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which provides the sleeper with some immediate comfort. The combination of the Tencel fibers and gel infusion make for an ultra-cool coating which will help regulate temperatures throughout the night.
Comfort Layer – Right below the cover, you’ll find 3″ of memory foam. This material has an incredibly slow reaction to stress, letting the sleeper to really sink in for some satisfying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you’re likely to feel as though you are sleeping more”in” the mattress than”on top” of it, which could be a pleasant feel for side sleepers in need of cushiony support in the shoulders and buttocks.
Transition Layer – Next you are going to find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a marginally quicker response to pressure compared to the foams above it. This section is supposed to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer foundation below, helping extend the contouring of the comfort layer even deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we’ve got 6″ of high-density poly foam. This section provides the mattress its firmness and contour, providing a firm foundation upon which the softer foams can respond.
After taking a peek at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying some light hand pressure to the mattress and found that I was instantly interacting with all the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the Nectar, with all the gentle foams contouring around my palms. Pushing in further, I experienced deeper sinkage into the bed.
Since people of different body types and sizes will feel firmness differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to check out the Nectar Sleep mattress. We all took a turn lying on the bed, and gave it a personal evaluation, and then compiled them onto the graph below.
While texture is always likely to be a personal thing, our responses should give you with a good notion of the firmness range you may expect from the bed.
Although there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did end on a mean firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the industry standard for medium firmness.
I personally gave the Nectar a 6 because I found its thick memory foam layers produced a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Irrespective of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the curves of my body, resulting in some pretty intense sinkage. While this translated to a softer rating for me, a few sleepers could find memory foam to provide a firmer feel as their bodies gradually acclimate into its morphing contour.
Another important component of a new bed’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to shape while lying on top of it.
To help you picture where these pressure points may crop up, I placed a pressure map above the bed and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the soft memory foam top layers shaped into my entire body and filled in the space in my thoracic region. While you might find memory foam to possess an initially firm feel, as soon as you give your body a few minutes to sink through it, you’ll find that it’s actually rather giving. A trade off for this gratifying pressure relief is that I did find it a bit hard to move around and change positions. Does Nectar Bed Smell
Edge Support – Testing the edge support on this bed, I did discover some compression through the soft foam top layers. But, the high-density poly foam foundation did a good job of supporting my weight in this position, which allowed me to feel secure on the side of the mattress.
Side – Turning onto my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers tend to favor softer mattresses which shape snuggly to the shoulders and hips, and the Nectar more than delivers on that front.
Stomach – Regrettably, this comfort didn’t necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my stomach. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink from alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my backbone. In general, stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses, so I was not too surprised by this outcome.
Up next, let us take a look at motion transfer. This evaluation will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other, which could be particularly important for those who share their bed with a partner.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is intended to symbolize a different movement you are likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are amazing motion transfer outcomes! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to soften movement across the structure, making sure that you won’t be too bothered by your bed partner’s tossing and turning in the evening.
When buying a new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body components and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Does Nectar Bed Smell
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly thought these results would be a bit more extreme! As I moved around the Nectar, I was surprised by how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is kind of surprising to see that the actual measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the marketplace. That being said, you’re still more likely to feel as though you’re sleeping “in” the Nectar as opposed to “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we have broken down the particular, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let us widen the scope and take a peek at some of its biggest rivals in the game. While each mattress has unique features which make it a distinctive product in the market, it can be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other mattresses. Plus, who does not love a little cross-referencing prior to making a large purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Purple and Nectar is like comparing oranges and apples — both are lovely in their own right, but fundamentally distinct products.
– Among the most noticeable distinctions comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a bouncy material that offers pressure relief without too much body contouring.
– This hyper-elastic polymer grid additionally makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, leading to a much cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.
– And finally, wherein the Nectar has virtually no bounce, the Purple has an enormous quantity of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
Although the Casper and Nectar are constructed completely of foam, they actually have unbelievably divergent feels, with the latter featuring much more sinkage compared to the former.
– Also, one of the standout features of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which provides targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.
– This also means the Casper has a more balanced feel compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a larger range of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike most other memory foam mattresses that tend to sleep a little warm, the Nectar provides a high level of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired with the infused cover keeps the temperature cool, while giving maximum comfort.
Because the Nectar is a high density foam, some could find it a little warmer than a hybrid, coil, or latex foam mattress.
In general, our research did reveal that the Nectar is most definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market nowadays.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh from the box, the mattress will have a fairly strong odor for the first two days. But after, the smell starts to fade, and in just a week is totally gone.
So, if the smell is something which actually bothers you, then I suggest not sleeping on it the first two days.Does Nectar Bed Smell
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar can be sat directly on a box spring. Or if you want, a platform or any other flat supportive surface. It can also be used with almost any adjustable bed frame, that can fit an 11′ mattress.
You can also put the Nectar right on the ground if that’s what you would like to do. Just make sure there is not any water or moisture around.
What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Nectar?
The Nectar requires no flipping. But, it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from excessive sagging or from wearing down.
For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cool water with mild dish soap, to clean any dirt or stains. Always wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.

– Considering its superb motion transfer and edge support outcomes, I would also say the Nectar could be a solid choice for couples.
