The DreamCloud hybrid mattress meets many of our standards for what a perfect mattress should have. With 8 superb layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud makes use of all of the right components in its construction. Dream Cloud Vs Nest

From the tufted cashmere cover that provides great cooling, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was created to give a cooler night’s sleep. Underneath that are a mix of memory foam and latex layers, which means this mattress includes better quality relaxation materials than most other mattresses.

Even though it uses numerous polyurethane foam layers, there’s no hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you want to sink into a mattress, the DreamCloud is probably not for you.

A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, particularly for all you back sleepers on the market.

Construction Dream Cloud Vs Nest

The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a humungous 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate together to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief. Dream Cloud Vs Nest

Given all the different materials at play , I am stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they mesh with one another.

dreamcloud-construction

Cover – The cover is composed of a polyester and cashmere blend for a soft feel up top. It’s also built with polyurethane foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant relaxation.

Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll notice three thin layers of polyurethane. While these layers are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The core of the 3 layers is particularly crucial for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at releasing heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling. Dream Cloud Vs Nest

Pocketed Coils – The base layer of foam transitions to the firmer support segment of this mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent rebound and help spread motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in regulating temperatures as the distances between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies in the bottom of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a sound foundation for the whole mattress.

Firmness

After looking at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting light hand pressure into the mattress and instantaneously felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and uppermost layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instant comfort. Pushing in farther, I began to feel all the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.

DreamCloud-Firmness

At this point I want to note that individuals of distinct body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my view on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I invited 3 additional individuals to present their sentiment too. This should provide you with a better idea of the firmness level you should see from the mattress.

The individuals were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the mattress, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compared to the industry norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is apparent that this mattress is pretty firm.

Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the other testers that it’s definitely a solid mattress. While you will feel some small sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you out of this bed and make you feel like you are sleeping on top of the mattress, as opposed to in it.

Pressure Map

As opposed to simply describing the feel of the mattress to you, I chose to offer a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the outcomes on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

DreamCloud-Pressure-Map

Back – When on my backside, my weight was equally dispersed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into it at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the mattress and keep my back aligned.

Side – As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt supported, and the top foam layers relieved any distress I felt in this position.

Stomach – Switching over to my belly, I believed that the mattress did a great job of lifting my hips upward and out of the mattress, which I think can be important for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to transition across these positions with comparative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you plan on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you will want to find out what it will feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at nighttime. The next experiment is meant to show you the amount of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance. Dream Cloud Vs Nest

Dreamcloud-Motion-Transfer-test

The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your mattress mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome option for couples.

Sinkage Test

When purchasing a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To present this sinkage, I put 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 lb medicine ball) on the DreamCloud and quantified how much they compressed the surface of the mattress.

The variations in size, density, and weight are supposed to mimic varying body parts and different sized sleepers.

DreamCloud-Sinkage-Test

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you are going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to reach the wrapped coils and experience great support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

If you’ll be sharing your bed with a spouse and will need to make use of the whole surface area of the mattress, then it is going to be crucial for you to think about the level of edge support it will provide.

I am very interested to determine whether the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that can’t live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring mattresses.

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the middle. Going closer to the edge, I experienced a little compression due to the upper foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Changing to my side, I felt compression in the foam layers, however, it did not carry over into the coil system beneath. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

In this last position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A lot of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up well.
