Nectar Sleep offers a memory foam mattress with better quality foam materials relative to its competitors at a far lower cost. Don’t be tricked into believing the Nectar mattress isn’t of similar quality as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Eclipse Mattress Memory Foam
Having gel memory foam built into the base of the cover and a layer of memory foam beneath, the Nectar shapes well, but does not have the exact same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam along with the absence of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than most memory foam mattresses.
A support core composed of high-density polyfoam is built to withstand the test of time. Given its construct, we project the Nectar to last at least 7-8 years, making it a lasting choice.
The Nectar is difficult to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for a reasonable mattress constructed with quality materials, your search can end here.
Eclipse Mattress Memory Foam
Brand Snapshot Eclipse Mattress Memory Foam
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has used a smart strategy of cheeky marketing and concentrated product development to evolve into one of the greatest players in the online bed-in-a-box market. Eclipse Mattress Memory Foam
Considering its popularity, the brand is frequently compared to Purple and Casper, two behemoths in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress market. Though all three mattresses have substantially different feels (which I will dissect in full later on in this review), they do gain from a similar amount of brand recognition and notoriety on websites likes ours and Reddit.
It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is less expensive than the Casper or even the Purple, both of which come in at about $1,000.

Eclipse Mattress Memory Foam
Construction Eclipse Mattress Memory Foam
Let us get started with the Nectar mattress review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress made up of three distinct layers that pile as much as an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is its humungous 4″ of memory foam on top, which results in a significant amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how all this comes together, let us dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is made up of of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco friendly material famous for its breathability and softness. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam built into the cover, which offers the sleeper with some immediate relaxation. The combination of the Tencel fibers and gel infusion make for an ultra-cool coating which will help regulate temperatures throughout the evening.
Comfort Layer – Directly below the cover, you’ll encounter 3″ of memory foam. This material has an incredibly slow response to pressure, letting the sleeper to really sink in for some satisfying pressure relief. As the foam shapes to the curves of your body, you are most likely to feel as though you are sleeping more”in” the mattress than”on top” of it, which may be a nice feel for side sleepers in need of cushiony support at the shoulders and buttocks.
Transition Layer – Next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a marginally quicker response to pressure than the foams above it. This section is meant to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer base under, helping extend the contouring of the comfort layer even deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we have got 6 inches of high-density poly foam. This section gives the mattress its stability and contour, offering a firm foundation upon which the softer foams can react.
After taking a look at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting some light hand pressure to the mattress and discovered that I was immediately interacting with the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the Nectar, with the gentle foams contouring around my palms. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the mattress.
Since people of different body types and sizes are going to feel stability differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to check out the Nectar Sleep mattress. We all took a turn lying on the mattress, and gave it a personal rating, and then compiled them onto the graph below.
While feel is always going to be a personal thing, our answers should give you with a good idea of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.
Although there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did end on a mean firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs perfectly with the industry standard for moderate firmness.
I personally gave the Nectar a 6 because I found its thick memory foam layers produced a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Irrespective of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the shape of my body, resulting in some pretty awesome sinkage. While this translated to a softer rating for mepersonally, some sleepers could find memory foam to produce a firmer sense as their bodies gradually acclimate to its morphing shape.
Another important part of a new mattress’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are most likely to form while lying on top of it.
To help you visualize where these pressure points might arise, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can find the results on the chart below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some fantastic pressure relief as the soft memory foam top layers shaped into my entire body and filled in the space in my thoracic region. While you might find memory foam to have an initially firm feel, as soon as you provide your body a couple of minutes to sink through it, you’ll discover that it’s actually quite giving. A trade off to this gratifying pressure relief is that I did find it a bit hard to maneuver around and change positions. Eclipse Mattress Memory Foam
Edge Support – Testing the edge support of this bed, I did discover some compression through the soft foam top layers. But, the high-density poly foam base did a fantastic job of supporting my weight in this position, which allowed me to feel safe on the side of the bed.
Side – Turning onto my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers have a tendency to favor softer mattresses that shape snuggly into the shoulders and buttocks, and the Nectar more than delivers on this front.
Stomach – Regrettably, this comfort did not totally carry over when I rolled onto my stomach. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink from alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my backbone. Overall, stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses, therefore I wasn’t too surprised by this result.
Up next, let us take a look at motion transfer. This test will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the bed to the other, which could be especially important for those of you who share their mattress with a partner.
To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Every drop is meant to signify a different movement you’re likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are incredible motion transfer results! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to soften movement throughout the structure, making sure you will not be too bothered by your bed mate’s tossing and turning in the night.
When buying a new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the bed or lying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed four balls of different densities and sizes (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to mimic different body components and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Eclipse Mattress Memory Foam
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly thought these results would be a bit more intense! As I rolled around the Nectar, I was struck by how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is kind of surprising to see that the actual measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the market. That being said, you are still more likely to feel like you’re sleeping “in” the Nectar as opposed to “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we have broken down the particular, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let us expand the scope and take a look at a few of its biggest rivals in the game. While every mattress has unique characteristics which make it a distinctive product in the space, it can be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other mattresses. Plus, who doesn’t love a tiny cross-referencing prior to making a large purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Purple and Nectar is like comparing oranges and apples — both are lovely in their own right, but fundamentally distinct goods.
– Among the most noticeable differences comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a bouncy material that offers pressure relief without too much body contouring.
– The hyper-elastic polymer grid also makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, leading to a far cooler sleeping experience than the Nectar.
– And lastly, wherein the Nectar has practically no bounce, the Purple has a tremendous quantity of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
While both the Casper and Nectar are constructed completely of foam, they really have incredibly divergent feels, with the latter featuring much more sinkage than the former.
– Also, one of the standout attributes of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which provides targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.
– This means that the Casper has a more balanced feel compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a wider selection of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike most other memory foam mattresses that generally sleep a little warm, the Nectar provides a high level of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired with the infused cover keeps the temperature cool, while providing maximum comfort.
Because the Nectar is a high density foam, some may find it a little warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.
Overall, our research did reveal that the Nectar is definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses in the marketplace today.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh from the box, the mattress is going to have a fairly strong odor for the first two days. After this, the odor starts to fade, and in just a week is completely gone.
So, if the odor is something that actually bothers you, then I suggest not sleeping on it the first couple days.Eclipse Mattress Memory Foam
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar could be sat directly on a box spring. Or if you prefer, a platform or any other flat supportive surface. In addition, it can be used with any adjustable bed frame, that can fit an 11′ mattress.
You can also put the Nectar right on the ground if that’s what you would prefer to do. Just be certain that there is not any moisture or water around.
What Is The Best Way To Take Care Of Your Nectar?
The Nectar needs no flipping. But, it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps one or two times per year to prevent it from wearing down or from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water with mild dish detergent, to clean any dirt or stains. Always clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.

Is the Nectar Mattress Appropriate For You?
Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the mattress, I want to give you a few recommendations and some of the very common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I would suggest the Nectar for anyone who wants that classic memory foam feel, deep body shaping and all.
– More specifically, I would say this mattress might be a real winner for side sleepers, who will benefit from its cushiony pressure relief in the shoulders and hips.
– Considering its excellent motion transfer and edge support outcomes, I’d also say the Nectar might be a good choice for couples.
– While a lot of folks will enjoy the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I would say that stomach sleepers may find that it pushes their buttocks out of alignment with their shoulders.
– Additionally, it has almost no rebound, which might be a dealbreaker for those sleepers in search of some buoyant support.
