Nectar Sleep sells a memory foam mattress with better quality foam materials relative to its competitors at a far lower price. Don’t be fooled into thinking the Nectar mattress is not of similar quality as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Gel Top Memory Foam Mattress Reviews
Having gel memory foam quilted into the bottom of the cover and also a layer of memory foam beneath, the Nectar contours well, but doesn’t have the exact same hug frequently associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam and the absence of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps considerably cooler than many memory foam mattresses.
A support core consisting of high-density polyfoam is made to withstand the test of time. Given its makeup, we expect the Nectar to last at least 7-8 years, making it a durable option.
The Nectar is hard to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for a reasonable mattress constructed with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Gel Top Memory Foam Mattress Reviews
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has employed a clever strategy of cheeky marketing and focused product development to evolve into one of the greatest players in the online bed-in-a-box marketplace. Gel Top Memory Foam Mattress Reviews
Considering its prevalence, the brand is often compared to Purple and Casper, two behemoths in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress market. Though all 3 mattresses have substantially different feels (which I’ll dissect in full later on in this review), they do gain from a similar amount of name recognition and notoriety on sites likes ours and Reddit.
It’s worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far less expensive than the Casper or the Purple, each of which come in at roughly $1,000.

Construction Gel Top Memory Foam Mattress Reviews
Let’s begin with the Nectar mattress review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress made up of three different layers which pile as much as an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is the whopping 4″ of memory foam on top, which leads to a considerable amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how all this comes together, let us dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is made up of of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco friendly substance famous for its softness and breathability. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which provides the sleeper with some immediate relaxation. The combination of the gel infusion and Tencel fibers make for an ultra-cool coating which will help regulate temperatures throughout the evening.
Comfort Layer – Right below the cover, you will find 3″ of memory foam. This material has an incredibly slow reaction to stress, allowing the sleeper to really sink in for some satisfying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you are likely to feel like you’re sleeping more”in” the bed than”on top” of it, which could be a nice feel for side sleepers needing cushiony support in the shoulders and hips.
Transition Layer – Next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a slightly quicker reaction to pressure than the foams over it. This section is meant to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer base under, helping to extend the contouring of the comfort layer deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we have got 6″ of high-density poly foam. This section gives the mattress its firmness and shape, offering a firm foundation upon which the softer foams will react.
After taking a peek at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying some light hand pressure into the mattress and found that I was instantly interacting with all the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the Nectar, with the gentle foams contouring around my fingers. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the bed.
Since people of different body types and sizes are going to feel firmness differently, I decided to bring in three other testers to have a look at the Nectar Sleep mattress. All of us took a turn lying on the mattress, and gave it a personal evaluation, and then compiled them on the graph below.
While feel is always going to be a personal thing, our responses should give you with a good notion of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.
Though there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did end on a mean firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the market standard for medium firmness.
I personally gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers produced a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Regardless of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the material contouring to the curves of my body, resulting in some pretty awesome sinkage. While this translated to a softer rating for me, a few sleepers could find memory foam to produce a firmer feel as their bodies slowly acclimate into its morphing shape.
Another important component of a new mattress’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to shape while lying on top of it.
To help you visualize where these pressure points might crop up, I placed a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can find the results on the chart below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the soft memory foam top layers shaped to my body and filled in the space at my lumbar region. Even though you may find memory foam to have an initially firm texture, once you give your body a couple of minutes to sink through it, you’ll find that it’s actually quite giving. A trade off to this gratifying pressure relief is that I did find it a bit difficult to maneuver around and change positions. Gel Top Memory Foam Mattress Reviews
Edge Support – Testing out the edge support of this bed, I did discover some compression through the soft foam top layers. However, the high-density poly foam base did a good job of supporting my weight in this position, which allowed me to feel secure on the side of the Nectar.
Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers tend to favor softer mattresses which shape snuggly to the shoulders and hips, and the Nectar more than delivers on this front.
Stomach – Regrettably, this comfort did not totally carry over when I rolled onto my belly. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink from alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my backbone. In general, stomach sleepers typically opt for firmer mattresses, therefore I was not overly surprised by this result.
Up next, let’s take a look at motion transfer. This evaluation will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the bed to the other, which could be particularly important for those who share their bed with a spouse.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is meant to signify a different movement you are most likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are amazing motion transfer results! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to dampen movement across the structure, ensuring that you will not be overly bothered by your bed partner’s tossing and turning in the evening.
When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to mimic different body components and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Gel Top Memory Foam Mattress Reviews
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly thought these results would be a bit more extreme! As I rolled around the Nectar, I was surprised by just how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is sort of surprising to find that the actual measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the marketplace. That being said, you are still more likely to feel as though you’re sleeping “in” the Nectar instead of “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we’ve broken down the specific, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let’s widen the scope and take a look at a few of its main rivals in the game. While every mattress has unique characteristics that make it a different product in the market, it may be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other mattresses. Plus, who doesn’t love a tiny cross-referencing before making a large purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing apples and oranges — both are great in their own right, but inherently distinct products.
– One of the most noticeable differences comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a bouncy material that provides pressure relief without too much body contouring.
– The hyper-elastic polymer grid additionally makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, resulting in a much cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.
– And finally, wherein the Nectar has practically no bounce, the Purple has an enormous amount of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
Although the Casper and Nectar are constructed entirely of foam, they actually have unbelievably divergent feels, with the latter featuring considerably more sinkage compared to the former.
– Additionally, one of the standout features of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which provides targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.
– This also means that the Casper has a more balanced feel compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a wider range of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike the majority of other memory foam mattresses that tend to sleep a bit warm, the Nectar provides a high level of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired together with the infused cover keeps the temperature cool, while giving maximum comfort.
Because the Nectar is a high density foam, some could find it a little warmer than a hybrid, coil, or latex foam mattress.
Overall, our research did show that the Nectar is most definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market nowadays.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh from the box, the mattress will have a fairly powerful odor for the first two days. After this, the odor starts to fade, and within a week is totally gone.
So, if the odor is something which actually bothers you, I suggest maybe not sleeping on it for the first two days.Gel Top Memory Foam Mattress Reviews
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar mattress could be sat right on a box spring. Or if you want, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. In addition, it can be utilized with any adjustable bed frame, that can fit an 11′ mattress.
You can even put the Nectar directly on the ground if that is what you would prefer to do. Just be certain there is not any moisture or water around.
What Is The Best Way To Take Care Of Your Nectar?
The Nectar requires no flipping. However, it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps one or two times a year to stop it from wearing down or from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water with mild dish soap, to clean any dirt or stains. Always wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
How Durable Is The Nectar Mattress?
In comparison to other foam mattresses, the Nectar based on our studies has a very long lifespan.

Is the Nectar Mattress Appropriate For You?
Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the bed, I am going to provide you with a few recommendations and some of the very common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I’d suggest the Nectar for everyone who desires that classic memory foam texture, deep body contouring and all.
– More specifically, I’d say this mattress might be a real winner for side sleepers, who will benefit from its cushiony pressure relief at the shoulders and buttocks.
– Considering its superb motion transfer and edge support results, I’d also say the Nectar could be a good choice for couples.
– While a great deal of folks will enjoy the thick layers of memory foam in this mattress, I would say that stomach sleepers may find that it pushes their buttocks out of alignment with their shoulders.
– Additionally, it has almost no bounce, which could be a dealbreaker for all those sleepers looking for some buoyant support.
