The Infant Optics DXR-8 And The Competition

Not all baby cameras are created equal. Not all baby monitors could be tilted or adjusted, let alone offer you the remote Tilt & Pan Control that Infant Optics DXR-8 offers which I admit, should be a necessity for every baby monitor out there. Here are some baby monitors out in the market when compared with Infant Optics DXR-8:

Infant Optics DXR-8 VS. Cocoon Cam

Cocoon Cam‘s difference with Infant Optics DXR-8 is the monitoring of your baby’s breathing patterns and crying detection. It then sends all of that information to your smartphone. Cocoon Cam uses infrared light to monitor the rise and fall of your baby’s chest. This system closely tracks your baby’s breathing patterns and monitor action. Installing the Cocoon Cam properly will be the most important facet for getting the whole thing to work accurately. You can even talk to your baby through an integrated microphone.

Infant Optics DXR-8 VS. The Nanit Smart

The Nanit streams live audio and video to your smart phone so you can see your baby when you’re away from home. You receive a notice on your smart phone, when your baby is awake, acting fussy or has fallen asleep.

The Nanit also assigns a sleep rating to each night based on hours. Other stats show how long it took for your baby to fall asleep. All of the stats are a part of Nanit Insights. Nanit Insights is a subscription-based service you get through the app. A one-year trial comes with your initial purchase of this baby monitor. Afterward, or to get unlimited access to video and sleep data, it costs $100 each year.

The Nanit also allows you to playback footage from the day. Infant Optics DXR-8 can’t record video footage or take pictures from the video recording for you but these variables are not actually the purpose of baby monitors. Baby cameras are for real time viewing and knowing the condition of your infant at present.

Infant Optics DXR-8 VS. Motorola MBP36XL

Infant Optics DXR-8 and Motorola MBP36XL both have the option to connect up to four cameras into the monitors. This is great for when you need to keep an eye on the children in numerous rooms. With Motorola MBP36XL you have to be careful when turning the device on as it makes loud beeping noises. You have to keep it out of earshot of sleeping babies. Also, with Motorola MBP36XL the battery life is not so great, unlike with Infant Optics DXR-8 where the battery life is awesome.Infant Optics Battery Issues

Infant Optics DXR-8 VS. Nest Cam

Infant Optics DXR-8 was made to be a baby monitor while the Nest Cam is actually an all-around home security device. Besides tracking the infant, you can even use it to watch the babysitter, the pets or your empty house if you are away. Infant Optics DXR-8 is a non-WiFi baby camera so you can just view the video on the respective monitor. Benefit of choosing a non-WiFi baby camera will be that the footage of your little one does not pass the internet so viewing is completely private to you. However, Nest Cam is WiFi based so you can see the live streaming from your smartphone. But you have to keep the Nest Cam app open and running continuously.

Infant Optics DXR-8 VS. Arlo Baby

The Arlo Baby is as adorable as Infant Optics DXR-8 is tasteful. It is the cutest baby monitor for a smart-home. It has a changeable look, like detachable rubber bunny ears and feet that can be switched to a kitten or puppy look. (extra $20 per critter) What Arlo Baby can provide that Infant Optics DXR-8 does not is the color-changing nightlight which is a nice touch. Additionally, it has an app that includes six lullabies and three white-noise sounds to play over the speaker. You may even record your own voice singing for your baby to hear. With Infant Optics DXR-8, you don’t get an app since it is a non-WiFi baby monitor. You Also cannot rewatch footage or take screenshots on the Infant Optics DXR-8. On the Arlo app you get seven days of cloud storage for both videos and snapshots without a subscription fee. You also get notifications when the room is too hot or too cold.

Infant Optics DXR-8 VS. Summer Infant

One problem with all the Summer Infant cameras is the fact that it’s so difficult to figure out which has the features and quality you actually need, given the very broad range of options. Separate cameras for different features. Summer Infant is of high-quality and dependable but it has too much choices you don’t know which mix best works for you. Some of their products are Panorama Digital Color Video Monitor, Baby Secure Pan, Scan, Zoom Video Monitor, etc.. Also, even though the screen is nice and big, the digital video quality is subpar in comparison to Infant Optics DXR-8. For roughly the same cost, we would go with the Infant Optics DXR-8 if you don’t really want the larger screen size.

Infant Optics DXR-8 VS. Project Nursery 5″ HD Baby Monitor System with Mini Monitor

Infant Optics DXR-8 has almost all the same features Project Nursery has. Awesome battery life, remote pan and tilt and also option to connect 4 cameras. Although, when it comes to features, Project Nursery really pulled out all the stops with their baby monitor such as infrared night vision, protected (encrypted 2.4GHz) wireless connection, movement alerts, lullaby music and convenient unobtrusive sleep modes that Infant Optics DXR-8 doesn’t contain in theirs. And even with all of that, it also, comes with a 1.5″ mini video screen (with strap!). Both cameras have a very long battery life and remote pan and tilt but cannot be viewed simultaneously.

Infant Optics DXR-8 VS. Philips Avent

Quite similar to the Infant Optics DXR-8’s option to turn the screen off and stream just sound, Philips Avent has ECO mode. ECO mode saves power in the screen unit by shutting off the screen and sound. Only when it finds a sound coming from your baby will it turn on to notify you. This is a great feature so you don’t receive false alarms and you conserve battery. Infant Optics DXR-8 provides you as a parent the choice to use it as an audio-only baby monitor. If you’re cooking or cleaning, or simply taking a break on the couch, you can still track your baby without having the screen on at all times. This really conserves battery life and the device will last for up to 10 hours. In a way, this also functions as a “power saving mode”. Also, The Philips Avent does not let you add multiple cameras, and the video quality isn’t quite at par with Infant Optics DXR-8.

Infant Optics DXR-8 VS. Samsung SafeVIEW Baby Tracking System

The Infant Optics DXR-8 does not have a nightlight or a sound sensitive tracker but if you want those, the Samsung SafeVIEW has them! Built-in nightlight that you can turn off and on using the monitor. The audio sensitive monitor is sensitive enough to pick up your baby’s sounds and moves. This turns the display on but you can reduce its audio sensitivity to not pick up the background noise. As Infant Optics DXR-8 has great battery life, the Samsung SafeVIEW screen battery drains fast. You might have to frequently plug it in to recharge.

How Is The Infant Optics DXR-8 Warranty and Customer Care

Infant Optics DXR-8 offers a full year of protection from defective parts. You can contact their technical support team who are available 7-days a week. You certainly get a fast response and helpful solutions to any on your queries.

The interchangeable lens feature lets you switch lenses depending on the view you prefer when monitoring your baby. This customizable feature is ideal because only you know what is best for your child. Even though it does not have pre-recorded lullabies built in the device, it has a two-way talk feature so you can still comfort your baby through this. Extra cameras may also be utilized for the complete surveillance of your child, you can add on a total of 4 cameras. And though Infant Optics DXR-8 does not take snapshots from the footage, its realtime crystal clear videos also doubles as a home surveillance system. This makes Infant Optics DXR-8 still a high-end baby camera.
