Nectar Sleep sells a memory foam mattress using better quality foam materials relative to its rivals at a much lower cost. Don’t be tricked into thinking the Nectar mattress isn’t of similar quality as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Mattress Cover Memory Foam Topper

Having gel memory foam quilted into the base of the cover and a layer of memory foam beneath, the Nectar contours well, but doesn’t have the exact same hug frequently associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam and the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps considerably cooler than most memory foam mattresses.

A support core consisting of high-density polyfoam is built to withstand the test of time. Given its construct, we expect the Nectar to survive at least 7-8 years, which makes it a lasting choice.

The Nectar is difficult to beat at this price, so if you’re searching for a reasonable mattress constructed with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Mattress Cover Memory Foam Topper

Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has used a clever strategy of cheeky advertising and focused product development to evolve into one of the biggest players in the online bed-in-a-box market. Mattress Cover Memory Foam Topper

Considering its popularity, the brand is often compared to Casper and Purple, two behemoths in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all three mattresses have considerably distinct feels (which I’ll dissect in detail later in this review), they do benefit from a similar amount of brand recognition and notoriety on websites likes ours and Reddit.

It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is more affordable than either the Casper or even the Purple, both of which come in at roughly $1,000.

Construction Mattress Cover Memory Foam Topper

Let’s begin with the Nectar mattress review. As I mentioned above, this is an all-foam mattress made up of three different layers that stack up to an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is the humungous 4″ of memory foam up top, which results in a considerable amount of body contouring and sinkage.

To see how all this comes together, let’s dive into the mattress!

Nectar Mattress Layers

Cover – The cover is comprised of both cotton and Tencel,

an eco-friendly substance known for its softness and breathability. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam built into the cover, which offers the sleeper with some immediate comfort. The combo of the Tencel fibers and gel infusion make for an ultra-cool layer that’ll help regulate temperatures throughout the night.

Comfort Layer – Right under the cover, you will encounter 3″ of memory foam. This material has a remarkably slow reaction to stress, letting the sleeper to really sink in for some gratifying pressure relief. As the foam shapes to the curves of your body, you’re most likely to feel as though you’re sleeping more”in” the mattress than”on top” of it, which may be a nice feel for side sleepers in need of cushiony support in the shoulders and buttocks.

Transition Layer – Next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a slightly quicker reaction to pressure compared to the foams above it. This section is meant to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer foundation under, helping to extend the contouring of the comfort layer deeper into the mattress.

Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we have got 6″ of high-density poly foam. This section provides the mattress its stability and shape, offering a firm foundation upon which the softer foams will respond.

Firmness

After having a peek at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting some light hand pressure into the mattress and found I was immediately interacting with the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the Nectar, with all the gentle foams contouring round my fingers. Pushing in further, I experienced deeper sinkage into the bed.

Since folks of different body types and sizes are going to feel firmness differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to have a look at the Nectar Sleep mattress. We all took turns lying on the mattress, and gave it a personal rating, and then compiled them on the graph below.

nectar-firmness-chart

While texture is always likely to be a personal thing, our responses should give you with a good notion of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.

Mattress Cover Memory Foam Topper

Although there was a little discrepancy with our answers, we did finish on an average firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the market standard for moderate firmness.

I personally gave the Nectar a 6 because I found its thick memory foam layers gave a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Irrespective of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the material contouring to the shape of my body, leading to some pretty awesome sinkage. While this translated to a softer rating for me, a few sleepers could find memory foam to produce a firmer feel as their bodies slowly acclimate to its morphing contour.

Pressure Map

Another important component of a new bed’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to shape while lying on top of it.

To help you picture where these pressure points may crop up, I put a pressure map above the bed and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can find the results on the chart below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

nectar-pressure-map

Back – Lying on my back, I felt some fantastic pressure relief as the soft memory foam top layers contoured into my body and filled in the space in my thoracic region. Even though you may find memory foam to have an initially firm texture, once you provide your body a few minutes to sink in, you will find that it’s actually rather giving. A trade off to this satisfying pressure relief is that I did find it somewhat difficult to move around and change positions. Mattress Cover Memory Foam Topper

Edge Support – Testing out the edge support on this mattress, I did discover some compression in the soft foam top layers. But, the high-density poly foam foundation did a good job of supporting my weight in this position, which enabled me to feel safe on the side of the bed.

Side – Turning onto my side, I continued to feel great pressure relief from this mattress. Side sleepers tend to prefer softer mattresses that shape snuggly to the shoulders and hips, and the Nectar more than delivers on that front.

Stomach – Unfortunately, this comfort did not totally carry over when I rolled onto my stomach. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink out of alignment with my shoulders, which made for a little tension along my spine. Overall, stomach sleepers typically opt for firmer mattresses, so I wasn’t too surprised by this result.

Motion Transfer

Next, let us take a look at motion transfer. This evaluation will demonstrate the quantity of disturbance detectable from one side of the bed to the other, which could be especially critical for those who share their bed with a spouse.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

FYI: Each drop is meant to symbolize a different movement you are likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).

nectar-motion-transfer

These are incredible motion transfer outcomes! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to dampen movement across the structure, making sure you will not be overly bothered by your bed mate’s tossing and turning in the night.

Sinkage Test

When purchasing a new bed, most people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.

The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

nectar-sinkage

6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Mattress Cover Memory Foam Topper

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.

I honestly thought these results would be a little more intense! As I moved around the Nectar, I was struck by just how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is kind of surprising to see that the real measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the market. That said, you are still more likely to feel as though you’re sleeping “in” the Nectar instead of “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition

Now that we’ve broken down the specific, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let us widen the scope and take a peek at a few of its main rivals in the game. While each bed has unique characteristics that make it a different product in the market, it may be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other beds. Plus, who doesn’t love a little cross-referencing before making a big purchase?

Nectar vs Purple

Comparing Purple and Nectar is like comparing apples and oranges — both are great in their own right, but fundamentally distinct goods.

– Among the very noticeable differences comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a bouncy material that offers pressure relief without too much body contouring.

– This hyper-elastic polymer grid also makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, leading to a much cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.

– And lastly, where the Nectar has virtually no bounce, the Purple has a tremendous amount of buoyant support.

Nectar vs Casper

While both the Casper and Nectar are constructed completely of foam, they really have incredibly divergent feels, with the latter featuring considerably more sinkage than the former.

– Also, one of the standout features of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which brings targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.

– This means the Casper has a more balanced texture compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a larger range of sleepers.

Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar

Does It Sleep Hot?

Unlike most other memory foam mattresses that tend to sleep a bit hot, the Nectar provides a high amount of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired together with the infused cover keeps the temperature cool, while providing maximum comfort.

Because the Nectar is a high density foam, some may find it a little warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.

In general, our study did reveal that the Nectar is definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses in the marketplace today.

Does It Have Any Smell?

Fresh out of the box, the mattress will have a fairly strong odor for the first two days. After this, the smell starts to fade, and in just a week is totally gone.

So, if the odor is something that really bothers you, then I suggest maybe not sleeping on it for the first two days.Mattress Cover Memory Foam Topper

Does It Require A Foundation?

The Nectar mattress could be sat right on a box spring. Or if you want, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. It can also be used with almost any adjustable bed frame, that can fit an 11′ mattress.

You can also use the Nectar directly on the ground if that’s what you would prefer to do. Just make sure that there isn’t any moisture or water around.

What’s The Best Way To Take Care Of Your Nectar?

The Nectar requires no flipping. But, it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly one or two times per year to prevent it from wearing down or from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water along mild dish detergent, to clean any dirt or stains. Always wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.

How Durable Is The Nectar Mattress?

In comparison to other foam mattresses, the Nectar based on our studies has a long lifespan.

The Nectar is manufactured with high quality materials and meets  all industry standards. According to our study, the Nectar scores an 80 percent owner satisfaction rating and continues to increase in popularity today.

What is Nectar’s Warranty?

Nectar provides you with their exceptional “Forever Warranty”

This unique warranty guarantees Nectar materials, construction, quality, and durability to the buying party for eternity.

Since the company stands firmly behind their mattress, they are convinced that buyers will find the Nectar to be the one and only mattress they could possibly want or need.

During the first one to five years of ownership, full replacement is given for free when the mattress is discovered to be faulty.

After the first 5 years, repairs and replacements will be honored for a 1 time transportation fee of $100. If a flaw is found, the $100 will be waived.

Our research show that consumers rate Nectar’s Forever Warranty excellent.

Is the Nectar Mattress Right For You?

Now that we’ve taken a closer look at the bed, I am going to provide you with a few recommendations and some of the very common Nectar complaints:

Recommendations

– First and foremost, I’d recommend the Nectar for everyone who desires that classic memory foam texture, deep body contouring and all.

– More specifically, I’d say this mattress might be a real winner for side sleepers, who will gain from its cushiony pressure relief in the shoulders and buttocks.

– Considering its excellent motion transfer and edge support results, I would also say the Nectar could be a good pick for couples.

Nectar Complaints

– While a great deal of people will dig the thick layers of memory foam in this mattress, I would say that stomach sleepers may find that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.

– Additionally, it has virtually no bounce, which might be a dealbreaker for all those sleepers in search of some buoyant support.
