Nectar Sleep offers a memory foam mattress with better quality foam materials relative to its rivals at a far lower price. Don’t be tricked into believing the Nectar mattress is not of the same caliber as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Mattress Memory Foam Medium
Using gel memory foam quilted into the base of the cover and a layer of memory foam beneath, the Nectar contours well, but does not have the same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam along with the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps considerably cooler than most memory foam models.
A support core consisting of high-density polyfoam is made to withstand the test of time. Given its makeup, we expect the Nectar to survive at least 7-8 years, which makes it a lasting option.
The Nectar is difficult to beat at this price, so if you’re searching for a reasonable mattress constructed with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Mattress Memory Foam Medium
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has employed a clever strategy of cheeky marketing and focused product development to evolve into one of the greatest players in the online bed-in-a-box market. Mattress Memory Foam Medium
Considering its popularity, the brand is frequently compared to Casper and Purple, two behemoths in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress market. Though all three mattresses have considerably different feels (which I’ll dissect in full later on in this review), they do benefit from a similar amount of brand recognition and notoriety on websites likes ours and Reddit.
It’s worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far more affordable than either the Casper or even the Purple, both of which come in at roughly $1,000.

Construction Mattress Memory Foam Medium
Let’s get started with the Nectar mattress review. As I mentioned above, this is an all-foam mattress made up of three different layers which stack up to an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is the humungous 4″ of memory foam on top, which leads to a considerable amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how this comes together, let’s dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is made up of of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco friendly material known for its softness and breathability. Additionally, there’s an inch of gel memory foam built into the cover, which offers the sleeper with some immediate comfort. The combo of the gel infusion and Tencel fibers make for an ultra-cool layer that’ll help regulate temperatures throughout the evening.
Comfort Layer – Directly under the cover, you will encounter 3″ of memory foam. This material has a remarkably slow reaction to pressure, letting the sleeper to really sink in for some satisfying pressure relief. As the foam shapes to the curves of your body, you’re likely to feel like you are sleeping more”in” the mattress compared to”on top” of it, which may be a nice feel for side sleepers in need of cushiony support at the shoulders and buttocks.
Transition Layer – Next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a slightly quicker response to pressure than the foams above it. This section is meant to ease the sleeper into the firmer base under, helping extend the contouring of the comfort layer even deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we’ve got 6 inches of high-density poly foam. This section gives the bed its stability and contour, offering a firm foundation upon which the softer foams will respond.
After taking a peek at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting some light hand pressure into the mattress and found I was instantly interacting with the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the Nectar, with the gentle foams contouring round my fingers. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the mattress.
Since people of different body types and sizes are going to feel stability differently, I decided to bring in three other testers to have a look at the Nectar Sleep mattress. All of us took a turn lying on the bed, and gave it a personal evaluation, then compiled them onto the chart below.
While feel is always likely to be a personal thing, our answers should provide you with a good notion of the firmness range you may expect from the mattress.
Though there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did end on an average firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs perfectly with the market standard for medium firmness.
Personally, I gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers produced a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Regardless of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the curves of my body, resulting in some pretty intense sinkage. While this translated into a softer rating for mepersonally, some sleepers could find memory foam to produce a firmer sense as their bodies slowly acclimate into its morphing shape.
Another important part of a new bed’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are most likely to form while lying on top of it.
To help you visualize where these pressure points might crop up, I placed a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some fantastic pressure relief as the soft memory foam top layers shaped into my body and filled in the space in my thoracic region. Even though you may find memory foam to possess an initially firm feel, as soon as you give your body a couple of minutes to sink in, you will discover that it’s actually rather giving. A trade off for this gratifying pressure relief is that I did find it somewhat hard to maneuver around and change positions. Mattress Memory Foam Medium
Edge Support – Testing out the edge support on this bed, I did detect some compression through the soft foam top layers. However, the high-density poly foam foundation did a fantastic job of supporting my weight in this position, which enabled me to feel secure on the side of the Nectar.
Side – Turning onto my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers tend to favor softer mattresses that shape snuggly to the shoulders and buttocks, and the Nectar more than delivers on this front.
Stomach – Unfortunately, this comfort didn’t necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my stomach. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink out of alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my backbone. In general, stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses, therefore I was not too surprised by this outcome.
Up next, let us take a look at motion transfer. This test will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the bed to the other, which could be particularly critical for those who share their bed with a spouse.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Every drop is intended to signify a different movement you’re most likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are amazing motion transfer results! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to soften movement across the structure, making sure that you won’t be overly bothered by your mattress partner’s tossing and turning in the evening.
When purchasing a new bed, most men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the bed or lying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the bed and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to mimic different body components and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Mattress Memory Foam Medium
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly believed these results would be a little more intense! As I moved around the Nectar, I was surprised by how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it’s kind of surprising to see that the actual measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the marketplace. That being said, you are still more likely to feel as though you are sleeping “in” the Nectar instead of “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we’ve broken down the specific, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let’s widen the scope and have a look at a few of its biggest rivals in the game. While every bed has unique features that make it a distinctive product in the market, it can be useful to contextualize these differences against other beds. Plus, who does not love a little cross-referencing prior to making a big purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Purple and Nectar is like comparing apples and oranges — both are lovely in their own right, but fundamentally distinct products.
– Among the most noticeable distinctions comes in the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a bouncy material that provides pressure relief without too much body contouring.
– The hyper-elastic polymer grid additionally makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, resulting in a far cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.
– And lastly, where the Nectar has virtually no bounce, the Purple has a tremendous quantity of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
Although the Casper and Nectar are built entirely of foam, they actually have unbelievably divergent feels, with the latter featuring much more sinkage than the former.
– Also, one of the standout features of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which provides targeted relief to the shoulders and hips.
– This means that the Casper has a more balanced feel than the Nectar, endearing it to a larger range of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike the majority of other memory foam mattresses that tend to sleep a little warm, the Nectar provides a high level of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired with the infused cover keeps it cool, while giving maximum comfort.
Because the Nectar is a high density foam, some may find it somewhat warmer than a hybrid, coil, or latex foam mattress.
In general, our study did show that the Nectar is definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses in the marketplace today.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh out of the box, the mattress will have a fairly powerful odor for the first two days. But after, the smell starts to fade, and within a week is completely gone.
So, if the smell is something that actually bothers you, I suggest maybe not sleeping on it for the first couple days.Mattress Memory Foam Medium
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar could be sat directly on a box spring. Or if you want, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. In addition, it can be used with any adjustable bed frame, that can fit an 11 inch mattress.
You can also put the Nectar right on the floor if that is what you’d like to do. Just make sure that there is not any water or moisture around.
What Is The Best Way To Take Care Of The Nectar?
The Nectar needs no flipping. However, it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly one or two times per year to prevent it from excessive sagging or from wearing down.
For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water with mild dish detergent, to clean any stains or dirt. Always clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.

Is the Nectar Mattress Right For You?
Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the mattress, I am going to give you a few recommendations and some of the very common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I’d suggest the Nectar for everyone who desires that classic memory foam texture, deep body shaping and all.
– More specifically, I would say this mattress could be a real winner for side sleepers, that will gain from its cushiony pressure relief at the shoulders and hips.
– Considering its excellent motion transfer and edge support results, I would also say the Nectar could be a solid pick for couples.
– While a great deal of folks will enjoy the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I would say that stomach sleepers may find that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.
– It also has almost no bounce, which might be a dealbreaker for all those sleepers in search of some buoyant support.
