Nectar Sleep offers a memory foam mattress with better quality foam materials relative to its competitors at a much lower cost. Don’t be tricked into believing the Nectar mattress is not of similar caliber as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Memory Foam Cool Gel Mattress
Having gel memory foam built into the base of the cover and a layer of memory foam beneath, the Nectar shapes well, but does not have the same hug frequently associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam along with the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than many memory foam models.
A support core composed of high-density polyfoam is built to withstand the test of time. Given its makeup, we expect the Nectar to last at least 7-8 years, which makes it a lasting choice.
The Nectar is difficult to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for an affordable mattress constructed with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Memory Foam Cool Gel Mattress
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has used a smart strategy of cheeky marketing and concentrated product development to evolve into one of the biggest players in the online bed-in-a-box market. Memory Foam Cool Gel Mattress
Considering its popularity, the brand is frequently compared to Purple and Casper, two giants in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all three mattresses have substantially different feels (which I will dissect in detail later in this review), they do gain from a similar amount of name recognition and notoriety on sites likes ours and Reddit.
It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far less expensive than either the Casper or the Purple, each of which come in at roughly $1,000.

Memory Foam Cool Gel Mattress
Construction Memory Foam Cool Gel Mattress
Let’s begin with the Nectar mattress review. As I mentioned above, this is an all-foam mattress made up of three different layers which pile as much as an 11″ profile. The most notable aspect of the Nectar’s construction is its whopping 4″ of memory foam up top, which results in a considerable amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how all this comes together, let’s dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is comprised of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco-friendly material known for its breathability and softness. Additionally, there’s an inch of gel memory foam built into the cover, which provides the sleeper with some immediate comfort. The combo of the gel infusion and Tencel fibers make for an ultra-cool layer which will help regulate temperatures during the evening.
Comfort Layer – Right below the cover, you’ll encounter 3″ of memory foam. This material has an incredibly slow reaction to stress, letting the sleeper to really sink in for some gratifying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you are most likely to feel like you are sleeping more”in” the bed than”on top” of it, which could be a pleasant feel for side sleepers needing cushiony support in the shoulders and hips.
Transition Layer – Next you are going to find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a slightly quicker response to pressure than the foams over it. This section is meant to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer foundation below, helping to extend the contouring of the comfort layer deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we’ve got 6 inches of high-density poly foam. This section provides the bed its firmness and shape, offering a firm foundation upon which the softer foams will react.
After taking a look at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying some light hand pressure into the mattress and found that I was instantly interacting with the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the Nectar, with all the gentle foams contouring around my palms. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the bed.
Since people of different body types and sizes are going to feel stability differently, I decided to bring in three other testers to check out the Nectar Sleep mattress. All of us took a turn lying on the mattress, and gave it a personal rating, and then compiled them onto the chart below.
While texture is always likely to be a personal thing, our responses should provide you with a good idea of the firmness range you may expect from the mattress.
Although there was a little discrepancy with our answers, we did end on an average firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the market standard for medium firmness.
I personally gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers gave a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Irrespective of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the shape of my body, resulting in some pretty intense sinkage. While this translated to a softer rating for me, some sleepers could find memory foam to provide a firmer sense as their bodies gradually acclimate to its morphing shape.
Another important part of a new bed’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are most likely to shape while lying on top of it.
To help you picture where these pressure points may arise, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the results on the chart below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some fantastic pressure relief as the soft memory foam top layers contoured to my entire body and filled in the space in my thoracic region. Even though you may find memory foam to have an initially firm texture, once you provide your body a couple of minutes to sink through it, you’ll discover that it’s actually rather giving. A trade off for this satisfying pressure relief is that I did find it a bit difficult to move around and change positions. Memory Foam Cool Gel Mattress
Edge Support – Testing the edge support of this bed, I did detect some compression through the soft foam top layers. But, the high-density poly foam base did a fantastic job of supporting my weight in this position, which allowed me to feel secure on the side of the bed.
Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this mattress. Side sleepers tend to favor softer mattresses which contour snuggly to the shoulders and buttocks, and the Nectar more than delivers on that front.
Stomach – Unfortunately, this comfort didn’t necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my stomach. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink from alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my spine. In general, stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses, therefore I wasn’t too surprised by this outcome.
Up next, let’s take a look at motion transfer. This test will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other, which might be particularly important for those who share their mattress with a spouse.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is intended to signify a different movement you are likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are amazing motion transfer outcomes! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to soften movement throughout the structure, making sure you won’t be too bothered by your bed partner’s tossing and turning in the night.
When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Memory Foam Cool Gel Mattress
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly believed these results would be a bit more extreme! As I moved around the Nectar, I was struck by just how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it’s sort of surprising to see that the actual measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the marketplace. That said, you are still more likely to feel like you’re sleeping “in” the Nectar instead of “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we have broken down the specific, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let’s expand the scope and have a look at a few of its biggest rivals in the game. While every mattress has unique features which make it a distinctive product in the market, it may be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other mattresses. Plus, who doesn’t love a little cross-referencing before making a big purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Purple and Nectar is like comparing apples and oranges — both are lovely in their own right, but fundamentally different products.
– Among the most noticeable distinctions comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a really bouncy material that offers pressure relief without an excessive amount of body contouring.
– The hyper-elastic polymer grid also makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, leading to a far cooler sleeping experience than the Nectar.
– And finally, wherein the Nectar has virtually no bounce, the Purple has a tremendous quantity of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
Although the Casper and Nectar are constructed completely of foam, they actually have incredibly divergent feels, with the latter featuring considerably more sinkage compared to the former.
– Also, one of the standout features of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which brings targeted relief to the shoulders and hips.
– This means the Casper has a more balanced texture compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a larger selection of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike the majority of other memory foam mattresses that generally sleep a bit hot, the Nectar offers a high amount of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired with the infused cover keeps it cool, while providing maximum comfort.
With the Nectar being a high density foam, some may find it a little warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.
Overall, our research did show that the Nectar is definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market nowadays.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh out of the box, the mattress is going to have a fairly powerful odor for the first two days. After this, the smell starts to fade, and within a week is totally gone.
So, if the smell is something which really bothers you, then I suggest not sleeping on it the first couple days.Memory Foam Cool Gel Mattress
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar could be sat directly on a box spring. Or if you want, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. In addition, it can be used with almost any adjustable bed frame, that can fit an 11 inch mattress.
You can also use the Nectar directly on the floor if that is what you would prefer to do. Just be certain that there isn’t any water or moisture around.
What’s The Best Way To Care For The Nectar?
The Nectar needs no flipping. But, it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps one or two times a year to stop it from wearing down or from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water along mild dish detergent, to clean any dirt or stains. Always clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
How Durable Is The Nectar Mattress?
Compared to other foam mattresses, the Nectar according to our studies has a very long lifespan.
The Nectar is made with premium quality materials and matches all industry standards. According to our research, the Nectar scores an 80 percent owner satisfaction rating and continues to increase in popularity today.

Is the Nectar Mattress Right For You?
Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the mattress, I am going to provide you with a few recommendations and some of the most common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I would recommend the Nectar for everyone who desires that classic memory foam texture, deep body shaping and all.
– More importantly, I would say this mattress could be a real winner for side sleepers, who will gain from its cushiony pressure relief in the shoulders and buttocks.
– Considering its excellent motion transfer and edge support results, I would also say the Nectar could be a good pick for couples.
– While a great deal of people will dig the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I’d say that stomach sleepers may find that it sends their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.
– It also has virtually no rebound, which could be a dealbreaker for all those sleepers in search of buoyant support.
