Nectar Sleep sells a memory foam mattress with better quality foam materials relative to its rivals at a much lower cost. Do not be fooled into believing the Nectar mattress isn’t of similar quality as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Memory Foam Mattress 13 Inch
Using gel memory foam built into the bottom of the cover and a layer of memory foam beneath, the Nectar shapes well, but does not have the exact same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam along with the absence of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than most memory foam mattresses.
A support core consisting of high-density polyfoam is made to withstand the test of time. Given its construct, we expect the Nectar to survive at least 7-8 years, which makes it a durable option.
The Nectar is hard to beat at this price, so if you’re searching for a reasonable mattress constructed with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Memory Foam Mattress 13 Inch
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has employed a smart strategy of cheeky marketing and focused product development to evolve into one of the biggest competitors in the online bed-in-a-box market. Memory Foam Mattress 13 Inch
Considering its prevalence, the brand is often compared to Casper and Purple, two behemoths in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress market. Though all 3 mattresses have substantially different feels (which I will dissect in full later in this review), they do gain from a similar amount of brand recognition and notoriety on sites likes ours and Reddit.
It’s worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is less expensive than either the Casper or the Purple, each of which come in at roughly $1,000.

Construction Memory Foam Mattress 13 Inch
Let’s begin with the Nectar bed review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress composed of three different layers which stack as much as an 11″ profile. The most notable aspect of the Nectar’s construction is the humungous 4″ of memory foam up top, which leads to a considerable amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how all this comes together, let’s dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is made up of of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco friendly material famous for its softness and breathability. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam built into the cover, which provides the sleeper with some immediate comfort. The combination of the gel infusion and Tencel fibers make for an ultra-cool coating that’ll help regulate temperatures during the night.
Comfort Layer – Directly below the cover, you will encounter 3″ of memory foam. This material has a remarkably slow response to pressure, letting the sleeper to really sink in for some satisfying pressure relief. As the foam shapes to the curves of your body, you are likely to feel as though you’re sleeping more”in” the bed compared to”on top” of it, which may be a nice feel for side sleepers in need of cushiony support in the shoulders and buttocks.
Transition Layer – Up next you are going to find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a slightly quicker response to pressure compared to the foams above it. This section is supposed to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer base below, helping to extend the shaping of the comfort layer deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we have got 6″ of high-density poly foam. This section gives the mattress its firmness and contour, offering a firm foundation upon which the softer foams can respond.
After taking a peek at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying some light hand pressure into the mattress and found that I was immediately interacting with all the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the mattress, with all the gentle foams contouring around my fingers. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the bed.
Since people of different body types and sizes are going to feel stability differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to have a look at the Nectar Sleep mattress. We all took a turn lying on the bed, and gave it a personal evaluation, then compiled them on the graph below.
While texture is always likely to be a personal thing, our responses should give you with a good notion of the firmness range you may expect from the bed.
Although there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did end on an average firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the market standard for medium firmness.
I personally gave the Nectar a 6 because I found its thick memory foam layers gave a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Irrespective of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the shape of my body, resulting in some pretty awesome sinkage. While this translated to a softer rating for mepersonally, a few sleepers could find memory foam to produce a firmer sense as their bodies slowly acclimate into its morphing contour.
Another important component of a new bed’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to shape while lying on top of it.
To help you picture where these pressure points may arise, I placed a pressure map above the bed and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the results on the chart below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the gentle memory foam top layers contoured to my entire body and filled in the space at my lumbar region. Even though you might find memory foam to have an initially firm feel, once you give your body a few minutes to sink in, you will find that it’s actually rather giving. A trade off for this satisfying pressure relief is that I did find it somewhat difficult to maneuver around and change positions. Memory Foam Mattress 13 Inch
Edge Support – Testing out the edge support on this mattress, I did discover some compression in the soft foam top layers. But, the high-density poly foam foundation did a fantastic job of supporting my weight in this position, which enabled me to feel secure on the side of the mattress.
Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel great pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers have a tendency to prefer softer mattresses which shape snuggly into the shoulders and buttocks, and the Nectar more than delivers on that front.
Stomach – Regrettably, this comfort did not totally carry over when I rolled onto my belly. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink out of alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my backbone. Overall, stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses, so I was not overly surprised by this outcome.
Up next, let’s take a look at motion transfer. This test will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress to the other, which could be particularly critical for those who share their mattress with a partner.
To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is meant to signify a different movement you are most likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are incredible motion transfer results! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to dampen movement throughout the structure, ensuring that you will not be too bothered by your mattress mate’s tossing and turning in the evening.
When purchasing a new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the bed and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to mimic different body components and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Memory Foam Mattress 13 Inch
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly believed these results would be a little more extreme! As I rolled around the Nectar, I was struck by just how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it’s sort of surprising to see that the actual measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the market. That said, you are still more likely to feel like you’re sleeping “in” the Nectar as opposed to “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we have broken down the particular, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let us widen the scope and have a peek at a few of its biggest competitors in the game. While each bed has unique features that make it a distinctive product in the market, it can be useful to contextualize these differences against other beds. Plus, who doesn’t love a little cross-referencing before making a big purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing apples and oranges — both are great in their own right, but inherently different products.
– Among the most noticeable differences comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a bouncy material that offers pressure relief without an excessive amount of body contouring.
– The hyper-elastic polymer grid additionally makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, resulting in a far cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.
– And finally, wherein the Nectar has practically no bounce, the Purple has an enormous amount of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
Although the Casper and Nectar are built completely of foam, they really have unbelievably divergent feels, with the latter featuring considerably more sinkage than the former.
– Additionally, one of the standout attributes of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which brings targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.
– This also means the Casper has a more balanced feel than the Nectar, endearing it to a wider range of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike the majority of other memory foam mattresses that generally sleep a bit hot, the Nectar offers a high level of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired together with the infused cover keeps the temperature cool, while providing maximum comfort.
With the Nectar being a high density foam, some may find it a little warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.
Overall, our study did show that the Nectar is most definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market nowadays.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh out of the box, the mattress is going to have a fairly powerful odor for the first 2 days. But after, the smell starts to fade, and within a week is totally gone.
So, if the odor is something that actually bothers you, I suggest not sleeping on it the first two days.Memory Foam Mattress 13 Inch
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar mattress could be sat right on a box spring. Or if you want, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. It can also be used with any adjustable bed frame, which can fit an 11′ mattress.
You can even put the Nectar right on the floor if that is what you’d like to do. Just be certain that there isn’t any water or moisture around.
What’s The Best Way To Take Care Of Your Nectar?
The Nectar requires no flipping. But, it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps one or two times a year to prevent it from excessive sagging or from wearing down.
For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water along mild dish detergent, to clean any stains or dirt. Always clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.

Is the Nectar Mattress Right For You?
Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the bed, I am going to give you a few recommendations and some of the most common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I would suggest the Nectar for anyone who desires that classic memory foam texture, deep body shaping and all.
– More importantly, I would say this mattress could be a real winner for side sleepers, that will gain from its cushiony pressure relief at the shoulders and hips.
– Considering its superb motion transfer and edge support results, I’d also say the Nectar could be a good choice for couples.
– While a great deal of folks will enjoy the thick layers of memory foam in this mattress, I would say that tummy sleepers may find that it pushes their buttocks out of alignment with their shoulders.
– Additionally, it has virtually no bounce, which might be a dealbreaker for all those sleepers in search of buoyant support.
