Nectar Sleep offers a memory foam mattress using better quality foam materials relative to its competitors at a much lower cost. Do not be tricked into believing the Nectar mattress is not of the same quality as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Memory Foam Mattress Brands List
Using gel memory foam built into the bottom of the cover and a layer of memory foam beneath, the Nectar shapes well, but does not have the same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam along with the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps considerably cooler than most memory foam mattresses.
A support core composed of high-density polyfoam is built to withstand the test of time. Given its makeup, we project the Nectar to survive at least 7-8 years, which makes it a lasting option.
The Nectar is hard to beat at this price, so if you’re searching for an affordable bed built with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Memory Foam Mattress Brands List
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has used a smart strategy of cheeky marketing and focused product development to evolve into one of the greatest competitors in the online bed-in-a-box market. Memory Foam Mattress Brands List
Considering its popularity, the brand is frequently compared to Purple and Casper, two giants in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all 3 mattresses have considerably different feels (which I will dissect in full later on in this review), they do benefit from a similar amount of brand recognition and notoriety on sites likes ours and Reddit.
It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far more affordable than the Casper or even the Purple, each of which come in at roughly $1,000.

Construction Memory Foam Mattress Brands List
Let us begin with the Nectar bed review. As I mentioned above, this is an all-foam mattress composed of three different layers that stack as much as an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is the whopping 4″ of memory foam up top, which results in a significant amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how all this comes together, let us dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is comprised of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco-friendly substance famous for its softness and breathability. Additionally, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which offers the sleeper with some immediate relaxation. The combination of the Tencel fibers and gel infusion make for an ultra-cool coating that’ll help regulate temperatures throughout the evening.
Comfort Layer – Directly below the cover, you’ll encounter 3″ of memory foam. This material has an incredibly slow response to stress, letting the sleeper to really sink in for some gratifying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you’re most likely to feel like you are sleeping more”in” the bed compared to”on top” of it, which could be a nice feel for side sleepers needing cushiony support in the shoulders and hips.
Transition Layer – Up next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a marginally quicker reaction to pressure than the foams above it. This section is supposed to ease the sleeper into the firmer base below, helping to extend the shaping of the comfort layer even deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we have got 6 inches of high-density poly foam. This section gives the bed its stability and shape, offering a firm foundation upon which the softer foams will react.
After taking a peek at the construction of the Nectar, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting some light hand pressure to the mattress and discovered I was instantly interacting with the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the Nectar, with the gentle foams contouring around my palms. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the bed.
Since folks of different body types and sizes will feel firmness differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to have a look at the Nectar Sleep mattress. We all took a turn lying on the bed, and gave it a personal rating, then compiled them on the graph below.
While texture is always likely to be a personal thing, our responses should give you with a good idea of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.
Although there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did end on a mean firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the market standard for moderate firmness.
Personally, I gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers produced a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Regardless of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the shape of my body, leading to some pretty awesome sinkage. While this translated into a softer rating for me, a few sleepers may find memory foam to provide a firmer feel as their bodies gradually acclimate into its morphing shape.
Another important part of a new mattress’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to shape while lying on top of it.
To help you visualize where these pressure points might arise, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the results on the chart below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some fantastic pressure relief as the gentle memory foam top layers shaped to my entire body and filled in the space at my lumbar region. While you might find memory foam to have an initially firm feel, as soon as you provide your body a few minutes to sink in, you’ll discover that it’s actually rather giving. A trade off to this gratifying pressure relief is that I did find it a bit difficult to maneuver around and change positions. Memory Foam Mattress Brands List
Edge Support – Testing the edge support on this mattress, I did discover some compression in the soft foam top layers. However, the high-density poly foam foundation did a fantastic job of supporting my weight in this position, which allowed me to feel safe on the side of the bed.
Side – Turning onto my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this mattress. Side sleepers have a tendency to prefer softer mattresses which contour snuggly into the shoulders and hips, and the Nectar more than delivers on this front.
Stomach – Unfortunately, this comfort did not totally carry over when I rolled onto my stomach. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink from alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my spine. In general, stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses, therefore I wasn’t overly surprised by this result.
Next, let us take a look at motion transfer. This test will demonstrate the quantity of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress to the other, which could be particularly critical for those of you who share their mattress with a spouse.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is intended to symbolize a different movement you are likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are amazing motion transfer results! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to soften movement across the structure, making sure you won’t be overly bothered by your mattress mate’s tossing and turning in the evening.
When buying a new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of different densities and sizes (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the bed and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to mimic different body components and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Memory Foam Mattress Brands List
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly thought these results would be a bit more extreme! As I moved around the Nectar, I was struck by just how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is sort of surprising to find that the real measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the marketplace. That being said, you are still more likely to feel as though you are sleeping “in” the Nectar as opposed to “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we have broken down the specific, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let’s expand the scope and have a look at some of its biggest rivals in the game. While every mattress has unique characteristics which make it a different product in the space, it can be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other mattresses. Plus, who does not love a tiny cross-referencing before making a large purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing oranges and apples — both are great in their own right, but fundamentally different goods.
– One of the very noticeable differences comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a really bouncy material that offers pressure relief without too much body contouring.
– The hyper-elastic polymer grid also makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, leading to a far cooler sleeping experience than the Nectar.
– And lastly, where the Nectar has virtually no bounce, the Purple has an enormous amount of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
While both the Casper and Nectar are constructed entirely of foam, they really have incredibly divergent feels, with the latter featuring considerably more sinkage than the former.
– Additionally, one of the standout attributes of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which provides targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.
– This means that the Casper has a more balanced feel than the Nectar, endearing it to a wider range of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike the majority of other memory foam mattresses that tend to sleep a bit hot, the Nectar offers a high level of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired with the infused cover keeps it cool, while giving maximum comfort.
Because the Nectar is a high density foam, some may find it a little warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.
In general, our study did reveal that the Nectar is most definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market nowadays.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh out of the box, the mattress is going to have a fairly strong odor for the first 2 days. But after, the smell starts to fade, and in just a week is completely gone.
So, if the smell is something which really bothers you, I suggest not sleeping on it the first two days.Memory Foam Mattress Brands List
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar can be sat directly on a box spring. Or if you prefer, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. It can also be utilized with any adjustable bed frame, that can fit an 11′ mattress.
You can even put the Nectar directly on the floor if that’s what you would like to do. Just be certain that there is not any water or moisture around.
What Is The Best Way To Care For Your Nectar?
The Nectar needs no flipping. However, it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps one or two times per year to stop it from excessive sagging or from wearing down.
For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water with mild dish soap, to clean any dirt or stains. Always clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.

Is the Nectar Mattress Appropriate For You?
Now that we’ve taken a closer look at the bed, I am going to provide you with a few recommendations and some of the most common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I would suggest the Nectar for anyone who wants that classic memory foam texture, deep body contouring and all.
– More importantly, I would say this mattress might be a real winner for side sleepers, who will benefit from its cushiony pressure relief in the shoulders and buttocks.
– Considering its excellent motion transfer and edge support results, I’d also say the Nectar could be a solid pick for couples.
– While a great deal of people will dig the thick layers of memory foam in this mattress, I’d say that stomach sleepers may find that it sends their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.
– Additionally, it has almost no rebound, which could be a dealbreaker for all those sleepers looking for buoyant support.
