Nectar Sleep offers a memory foam mattress using better quality foam materials relative to its competitors at a far lower price. Do not be fooled into thinking the Nectar mattress is not of similar quality as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Memory Foam Mattress Gives Me Headaches
Having gel memory foam built into the base of the cover and also a layer of memory foam under, the Nectar shapes well, but does not have the exact same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam and the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than most memory foam models.
A support core consisting of high-density polyfoam is made to withstand the test of time. Given its makeup, we project the Nectar to last at least 7-8 years, making it a durable option.
The Nectar is difficult to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for a reasonable mattress constructed with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Memory Foam Mattress Gives Me Headaches
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has employed a smart strategy of cheeky marketing and focused product development to evolve into one of the biggest competitors in the online bed-in-a-box market. Memory Foam Mattress Gives Me Headaches
Considering its popularity, the brand is often compared to Purple and Casper, two behemoths in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all 3 mattresses have considerably distinct feels (which I’ll dissect in full later in this review), they do benefit from a similar amount of brand recognition and notoriety on sites likes ours and Reddit.
It’s worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is more affordable than either the Casper or even the Purple, both of which come in at about $1,000.

Memory Foam Mattress Gives Me Headaches
Construction Memory Foam Mattress Gives Me Headaches
Let’s begin with the Nectar mattress review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress composed of three different layers which stack as much as an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is the humungous 4″ of memory foam on top, which leads to a significant amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how all this comes together, let us dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is comprised of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco-friendly substance known for its softness and breathability. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which offers the sleeper with some immediate comfort. The combo of the Tencel fibers and gel infusion make for an ultra-cool layer which will help regulate temperatures throughout the evening.
Comfort Layer – Directly under the cover, you will find 3″ of memory foam. This material has an incredibly slow response to stress, letting the sleeper to really sink in for some satisfying pressure relief. As the foam shapes to the curves of your body, you’re likely to feel as though you’re sleeping more”in” the mattress than”on top” of it, which may be a pleasant feel for side sleepers in need of cushiony support at the shoulders and hips.
Transition Layer – Up next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a marginally quicker response to pressure than the foams over it. This section is supposed to ease the sleeper into the firmer base below, helping to extend the shaping of the comfort layer even deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we’ve got 6 inches of high-density poly foam. This section provides the bed its stability and shape, offering a firm foundation upon which the softer foams can respond.
After having a look at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting some light hand pressure into the mattress and found that I was immediately interacting with the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the Nectar, with the gentle foams contouring round my palms. Pushing in further, I experienced deeper sinkage into the bed.
Since people of different body types and sizes are going to feel stability differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to have a look at the Nectar Sleep mattress. All of us took a turn lying on the mattress, and gave it a personal rating, then compiled them on the graph below.
While texture is always likely to be a personal thing, our responses should give you with a good notion of the firmness range you may expect from the bed.
Though there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did finish on a mean firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs perfectly with the market standard for moderate firmness.
I personally gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers produced a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Regardless of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the material contouring to the curves of my body, resulting in some pretty intense sinkage. While this translated into a softer rating for me, a few sleepers could find memory foam to produce a firmer feel as their bodies gradually acclimate to its morphing shape.
Another important part of a new mattress’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to shape while lying on top of it.
To help you visualize where these pressure points may crop up, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can find the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some fantastic pressure relief as the gentle memory foam top layers contoured into my body and filled in the space at my lumbar region. Even though you may find memory foam to have an initially firm texture, once you provide your body a few minutes to sink in, you’ll find that it’s actually rather giving. A trade off to this satisfying pressure relief is that I did find it somewhat difficult to move around and change positions. Memory Foam Mattress Gives Me Headaches
Edge Support – Testing out the edge support on this bed, I did detect some compression through the soft foam top layers. However, the high-density poly foam foundation did a fantastic job of supporting my weight in this position, which enabled me to feel secure on the side of the bed.
Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel great pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers tend to prefer softer mattresses which contour snuggly to the shoulders and buttocks, and the Nectar more than delivers on this front.
Stomach – Unfortunately, this comfort didn’t totally carry over when I rolled onto my belly. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink out of alignment with my shoulders, which made for a little tension along my backbone. In general, stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses, therefore I was not too surprised by this result.
Up next, let’s take a look at motion transfer. This evaluation will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other, which could be especially critical for those of you who share their mattress with a spouse.
To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is meant to signify a different movement you are likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are incredible motion transfer outcomes! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to dampen movement across the structure, making sure you will not be overly bothered by your mattress mate’s tossing and turning in the evening.
When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the bed or lying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the bed and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to mimic different body components and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Memory Foam Mattress Gives Me Headaches
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly thought these results would be a bit more extreme! As I rolled around the Nectar, I was struck by how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it’s kind of surprising to see that the real measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the marketplace. That being said, you are still more likely to feel like you’re sleeping “in” the Nectar instead of “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we have broken down the specific, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let us widen the scope and have a peek at some of its biggest rivals in the game. While every bed has unique characteristics which make it a distinctive product in the market, it can be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other beds. Plus, who does not love a tiny cross-referencing before making a big purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing oranges and apples — both are lovely in their own right, but inherently different products.
– One of the very noticeable distinctions comes in the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a bouncy material that provides pressure relief without an excessive amount of body contouring.
– The hyper-elastic polymer grid also makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, leading to a far cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.
– And finally, wherein the Nectar has practically no bounce, the Purple has an enormous amount of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
While both the Casper and Nectar are constructed entirely of foam, they actually have incredibly divergent feels, with the latter featuring much more sinkage compared to the former.
– Also, one of the standout attributes of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which brings targeted relief to the shoulders and hips.
– This also means that the Casper has a more balanced texture compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a larger range of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike the majority of other memory foam mattresses that generally sleep a bit warm, the Nectar provides a high level of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired with the infused cover keeps it cool, while giving maximum comfort.
Because the Nectar is a high density foam, some could find it a little warmer than a hybrid, coil, or latex foam mattress.
Overall, our research did reveal that the Nectar is definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market today.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh from the box, the mattress is going to have a fairly powerful odor for the first two days. But after, the smell starts to fade, and in just a week is completely gone.
So, if the odor is something which actually bothers you, I suggest not sleeping on it the first couple days.Memory Foam Mattress Gives Me Headaches
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar could be sat directly on a box spring. Or if you prefer, a platform or any other flat supportive surface. It can also be used with almost any adjustable bed frame, that can fit an 11′ mattress.
You can also use the Nectar right on the ground if that is what you’d prefer to do. Just be certain that there isn’t any moisture or water around.
What Is The Best Way To Take Care Of Your Nectar?
The Nectar needs no flipping. But, it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly one or two times a year to prevent it from excessive sagging or from wearing down.
For regular cleaning, it is advised to use cool water along mild dish soap, to clean any dirt or stains. Always clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
How Durable Is The Nectar Mattress?
In comparison to other foam mattresses, the Nectar according to our studies has a very long lifespan.
The Nectar is manufactured with high quality materials and matches all industry standards. According to our research, the Nectar scores an 80% owner satisfaction rating and continues to increase in popularity today.

Is the Nectar Mattress Appropriate For You?
Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the bed, I want to provide you with a few recommendations and some of the most common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I’d suggest the Nectar for anyone who wants that classic memory foam feel, deep body contouring and all.
– More importantly, I’d say this mattress could be a real winner for side sleepers, that will benefit from its cushiony pressure relief at the shoulders and hips.
– Considering its excellent motion transfer and edge support results, I would also say the Nectar could be a solid choice for couples.
– While a great deal of people will enjoy the thick layers of memory foam in this mattress, I’d say that tummy sleepers may find that it sends their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.
– Additionally, it has virtually no rebound, which could be a dealbreaker for those sleepers in search of buoyant support.
