Nectar Sleep sells a memory foam mattress with better quality foam materials relative to its competitors at a far lower price. Do not be fooled into thinking the Nectar mattress is not of similar caliber as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Memory Foam Mattress Topper Gel
Using gel memory foam built into the bottom of the cover and a layer of memory foam beneath, the Nectar shapes well, but does not have the exact same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam and the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than many memory foam mattresses.
A support core composed of high-density polyfoam is made to withstand the test of time. Given its makeup, we project the Nectar to survive at least 7-8 years, which makes it a lasting choice.
The Nectar is difficult to beat at this price, so if you’re searching for an affordable bed built with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Memory Foam Mattress Topper Gel
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has used a smart strategy of cheeky marketing and concentrated product development to evolve into one of the greatest players in the online bed-in-a-box marketplace. Memory Foam Mattress Topper Gel
Considering its prevalence, the brand is often compared to Purple and Casper, two behemoths in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all three mattresses have substantially distinct feels (which I will dissect in detail later on in this review), they do gain from a similar amount of brand recognition and notoriety on sites likes ours and Reddit.
It’s worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far more affordable than either the Casper or the Purple, both of which come in at roughly $1,000.

Construction Memory Foam Mattress Topper Gel
Let us get started with the Nectar bed review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress composed of three distinct layers which pile as much as an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is its humungous 4″ of memory foam up top, which leads to a considerable amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how all this comes together, let us dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is comprised of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco-friendly material famous for its breathability and softness. Additionally, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which provides the sleeper with some instant comfort. The combo of the Tencel fibers and gel infusion make for an ultra-cool coating that’ll help regulate temperatures during the night.
Comfort Layer – Directly under the cover, you’ll find 3″ of memory foam. This material has an incredibly slow reaction to stress, allowing the sleeper to really sink in for some satisfying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you’re likely to feel as though you are sleeping more”in” the bed compared to”on top” of it, which could be a nice feel for side sleepers in need of cushiony support in the shoulders and hips.
Transition Layer – Up next you are going to find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a marginally quicker reaction to pressure than the foams above it. This section is supposed to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer foundation below, helping extend the shaping of the comfort layer deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we’ve got 6 inches of high-density poly foam. This section provides the mattress its firmness and shape, providing a firm foundation upon which the softer foams can react.
After having a peek at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting some light hand pressure into the mattress and found I was instantly interacting with all the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the mattress, with the gentle foams contouring round my palms. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the mattress.
Since people of different body types and sizes will feel stability differently, I decided to bring in three other testers to have a look at the Nectar Sleep mattress. All of us took turns lying on the bed, and gave it a personal rating, then compiled them on the graph below.
While texture is always likely to be a personal thing, our responses should provide you with a good notion of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.
Although there was a little discrepancy with our answers, we did end on a mean firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs perfectly with the industry standard for medium firmness.
I personally gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers gave a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Regardless of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the material contouring to the shape of my body, resulting in some pretty intense sinkage. While this translated into a softer rating for me, a few sleepers could find memory foam to provide a firmer feel as their bodies gradually acclimate into its morphing contour.
Another important part of a new mattress’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to shape while lying on top of it.
To help you picture where these pressure points might arise, I put a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can see the results on the chart below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the gentle memory foam top layers shaped into my body and filled in the space in my thoracic region. Even though you may find memory foam to have an initially firm texture, once you provide your body a few minutes to sink through it, you will find that it’s actually quite giving. A trade off for this gratifying pressure relief is that I did find it somewhat difficult to maneuver around and change positions. Memory Foam Mattress Topper Gel
Edge Support – Testing out the edge support on this bed, I did discover some compression through the soft foam top layers. But, the high-density poly foam foundation did a fantastic job of supporting my weight in this position, which enabled me to feel safe on the side of the bed.
Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel great pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers tend to prefer softer mattresses which shape snuggly into the shoulders and hips, and the Nectar more than delivers on this front.
Stomach – Unfortunately, this comfort did not totally carry over when I rolled onto my belly. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink out of alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my backbone. In general, stomach sleepers typically opt for firmer mattresses, so I was not overly surprised by this result.
Up next, let us take a look at motion transfer. This evaluation will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress to the other, which might be particularly critical for those who share their bed with a spouse.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Every drop is intended to symbolize a different movement you’re most likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are incredible motion transfer results! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to dampen movement throughout the structure, ensuring that you will not be too bothered by your bed mate’s tossing and turning in the night.
When buying a new bed, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Memory Foam Mattress Topper Gel
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly thought these results would be a little more extreme! As I moved around the Nectar, I was struck by just how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is kind of surprising to find that the actual measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the marketplace. That being said, you’re still more likely to feel as though you’re sleeping “in” the Nectar as opposed to “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we have broken down the specific, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let’s widen the scope and take a look at a few of its main rivals in the game. While every bed has unique characteristics which make it a distinctive product in the market, it can be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other mattresses. Plus, who does not love a little cross-referencing before making a big purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing apples and oranges — both are great in their own right, but inherently distinct goods.
– Among the very noticeable distinctions comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a bouncy material that provides pressure relief without too much body contouring.
– The hyper-elastic polymer grid also makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, resulting in a much cooler sleeping experience than the Nectar.
– And lastly, where the Nectar has practically no bounce, the Purple has a tremendous quantity of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
Although the Casper and Nectar are constructed entirely of foam, they really have unbelievably divergent feels, with the latter featuring much more sinkage compared to the former.
– Also, one of the standout features of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which provides targeted relief to the shoulders and hips.
– This means the Casper has a more balanced feel compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a wider range of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike most other memory foam mattresses that generally sleep a little warm, the Nectar provides a high amount of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired with the infused cover keeps the temperature cool, while providing maximum comfort.
Because the Nectar is a high density foam, some could find it somewhat warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.
Overall, our study did reveal that the Nectar is definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market nowadays.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh from the box, the mattress is going to have a fairly strong odor for the first 2 days. After this, the smell starts to fade, and in just a week is completely gone.
So, if the odor is something that really bothers you, then I suggest maybe not sleeping on it the first two days.Memory Foam Mattress Topper Gel
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar mattress can be sat directly on a box spring. Or if you prefer, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. It can also be utilized with almost any adjustable bed frame, which can fit an 11 inch mattress.
You can also use the Nectar right on the floor if that’s what you would prefer to do. Just be certain there isn’t any moisture or water around.
What Is The Best Way To Care For Your Nectar?
The Nectar needs no flipping. However, it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps one or two times per year to prevent it from wearing down or from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water with mild dish detergent, to clean any dirt or stains. Always clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
How Durable Is The Nectar Mattress?
Compared to other foam mattresses, the Nectar according to our studies has a long lifespan.
The Nectar is made with premium quality materials and meets all industry standards. According to our research, the Nectar scores an 80% owner satisfaction rating and continues to increase in popularity now.

Is the Nectar Mattress Appropriate For You?
Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the mattress, I want to give you a few recommendations and some of the most common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I would recommend the Nectar for everyone who wants that classic memory foam texture, deep body contouring and all.
– More specifically, I would say this mattress might be a real winner for side sleepers, that will gain from its cushiony pressure relief in the shoulders and hips.
– Considering its superb motion transfer and edge support outcomes, I would also say the Nectar might be a good pick for couples.
– While a lot of folks will dig the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I’d say that stomach sleepers may find that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.
– Additionally, it has virtually no bounce, which could be a dealbreaker for all those sleepers looking for buoyant support.
