Nectar Sleep offers a memory foam mattress with better quality foam materials relative to its rivals at a far lower cost. Don’t be fooled into thinking the Nectar mattress is not of similar caliber as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Memory Foam Mattress Topper Wowcher
Having gel memory foam built into the bottom of the cover and a layer of memory foam under, the Nectar shapes well, but does not have the same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam along with the absence of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than many memory foam mattresses.
A support core composed of high-density polyfoam is built to withstand the test of time. Given its makeup, we project the Nectar to last at least 7-8 years, which makes it a durable option.
The Nectar is hard to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for a reasonable mattress constructed with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Memory Foam Mattress Topper Wowcher
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has used a clever strategy of cheeky marketing and focused product development to evolve into one of the biggest players in the online bed-in-a-box market. Memory Foam Mattress Topper Wowcher
Considering its prevalence, the brand is frequently compared to Purple and Casper, two giants in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress market. Though all 3 mattresses have considerably distinct feels (which I’ll dissect in detail later on in this review), they do gain from a similar amount of brand recognition and notoriety on websites likes ours and Reddit.
It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far more affordable than either the Casper or the Purple, each of which come in at roughly $1,000.

Construction Memory Foam Mattress Topper Wowcher
Let us get started with the Nectar bed review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress made up of three distinct layers that stack as much as an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is the humungous 4″ of memory foam on top, which results in a significant amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how this comes together, let’s dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is comprised of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco-friendly material famous for its softness and breathability. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam built into the cover, which provides the sleeper with some immediate relaxation. The combination of the Tencel fibers and gel infusion make for an ultra-cool layer that’ll help regulate temperatures throughout the evening.
Comfort Layer – Right under the cover, you’ll encounter 3″ of memory foam. This material has an incredibly slow reaction to stress, letting the sleeper to really sink in for some gratifying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you’re likely to feel as though you are sleeping more”in” the bed than”on top” of it, which could be a nice feel for side sleepers needing cushiony support in the shoulders and buttocks.
Transition Layer – Up next you are going to find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a slightly quicker reaction to pressure compared to the foams above it. This section is supposed to ease the sleeper into the firmer base below, helping to extend the contouring of the comfort layer deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we’ve got 6″ of high-density poly foam. This section provides the mattress its firmness and contour, offering a firm foundation upon which the softer foams can react.
After taking a look at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying some light hand pressure to the mattress and found I was instantly interacting with all the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the mattress, with the gentle foams contouring round my fingers. Pushing in further, I experienced deeper sinkage into the mattress.
Since folks of different body types and sizes are going to feel stability differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to check out the Nectar Sleep mattress. We all took a turn lying on the mattress, and gave it a personal evaluation, then compiled them onto the chart below.
While texture is always going to be a personal thing, our responses should provide you with a good notion of the firmness range you may expect from the bed.
Though there was a little discrepancy with our answers, we did finish on an average firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs perfectly with the industry standard for moderate firmness.
I personally gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers gave a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Regardless of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the shape of my body, leading to some pretty awesome sinkage. While this translated into a softer rating for me, a few sleepers may find memory foam to provide a firmer sense as their bodies slowly acclimate to its morphing shape.
Another important component of a new bed’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to form while lying on top of it.
To help you picture where these pressure points may arise, I placed a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the chart below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some fantastic pressure relief as the gentle memory foam top layers shaped to my entire body and filled in the space in my thoracic region. Even though you may find memory foam to have an initially firm feel, once you give your body a couple of minutes to sink in, you will find that it’s actually rather giving. A trade off to this satisfying pressure relief is that I did find it a bit hard to maneuver around and change positions. Memory Foam Mattress Topper Wowcher
Edge Support – Testing out the edge support on this mattress, I did discover some compression through the soft foam top layers. But, the high-density poly foam foundation did a good job of supporting my weight in this position, which allowed me to feel secure on the side of the bed.
Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers have a tendency to prefer softer mattresses which contour snuggly to the shoulders and hips, and the Nectar more than delivers on that front.
Stomach – Unfortunately, this comfort did not necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my stomach. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink from alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my spine. Overall, stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses, so I wasn’t too surprised by this outcome.
Next, let’s take a look at motion transfer. This test will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other, which might be especially critical for those of you who share their bed with a spouse.
To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is meant to symbolize a different movement you are most likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are amazing motion transfer outcomes! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to dampen movement throughout the structure, ensuring that you won’t be too bothered by your mattress partner’s tossing and turning in the evening.
When purchasing a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of different densities and sizes (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate different body components and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Memory Foam Mattress Topper Wowcher
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly believed these results would be a bit more intense! As I rolled around the Nectar, I was surprised by how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it’s kind of surprising to find that the actual measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the market. That being said, you’re still more likely to feel as though you are sleeping “in” the Nectar as opposed to “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we have broken down the specific, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let us expand the scope and have a look at a few of its main competitors in the game. While every mattress has unique features which make it a different product in the market, it may be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other beds. Plus, who doesn’t love a tiny cross-referencing before making a large purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing apples and oranges — both are great in their own right, but fundamentally different goods.
– Among the most noticeable differences comes in the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a really bouncy material that provides pressure relief without an excessive amount of body contouring.
– This hyper-elastic polymer grid additionally makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, resulting in a far cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.
– And finally, where the Nectar has virtually no bounce, the Purple has a tremendous amount of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
Although the Casper and Nectar are constructed completely of foam, they really have incredibly divergent feels, with the latter featuring much more sinkage compared to the former.
– Also, one of the standout attributes of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which provides targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.
– This means that the Casper has a more balanced feel than the Nectar, endearing it to a wider range of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike the majority of other memory foam mattresses that tend to sleep a bit hot, the Nectar offers a high amount of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired together with the infused cover keeps it cool, while giving maximum comfort.
Because the Nectar is a high density foam, some may find it a little warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.
Overall, our study did show that the Nectar is most definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market nowadays.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh out of the box, the mattress will have a fairly strong odor for the first two days. After this, the odor starts to fade, and within a week is totally gone.
So, if the smell is something that really bothers you, then I suggest maybe not sleeping on it for the first couple days.Memory Foam Mattress Topper Wowcher
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar could be sat right on a box spring. Or if you want, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. It can also be used with any adjustable bed frame, that can fit an 11 inch mattress.
You can even put the Nectar directly on the floor if that is what you would like to do. Just make sure there is not any moisture or water around.
What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Nectar?
The Nectar requires no flipping. However, it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down or from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water with mild dish detergent, to clean any dirt or stains. Always clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
How Durable Is The Nectar Mattress?
Compared to other foam mattresses, the Nectar based on our studies has a very long lifespan.

Is the Nectar Mattress Appropriate For You?
Now that we’ve taken a closer look at the bed, I am going to give you a few recommendations and some of the very common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I’d recommend the Nectar for anyone who desires that classic memory foam feel, deep body shaping and all.
– More importantly, I’d say this mattress might be a real winner for side sleepers, that will benefit from its cushiony pressure relief at the shoulders and buttocks.
– Considering its superb motion transfer and edge support results, I would also say the Nectar could be a good choice for couples.
– While a lot of folks will enjoy the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I would say that stomach sleepers may find that it pushes their buttocks out of alignment with their shoulders.
– It also has almost no rebound, which could be a dealbreaker for those sleepers looking for buoyant support.
