Nectar Sleep sells a memory foam mattress using better quality foam materials relative to its rivals at a far lower cost. Don’t be fooled into thinking the Nectar mattress is not of the same quality as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Memory Foam Mattress Versus Conventional Mattress

Using gel memory foam quilted into the base of the cover and a layer of memory foam beneath, the Nectar shapes well, but does not have the exact same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam and the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps considerably cooler than most memory foam models.

A support core composed of high-density polyfoam is built to withstand the test of time. Given its makeup, we expect the Nectar to last at least 7-8 years, making it a durable option.

The Nectar is difficult to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for a reasonable bed built with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Memory Foam Mattress Versus Conventional Mattress

Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has used a smart strategy of cheeky marketing and focused product development to evolve into one of the biggest players in the online bed-in-a-box marketplace. Memory Foam Mattress Versus Conventional Mattress

Considering its prevalence, the brand is frequently compared to Casper and Purple, two giants in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress market. Though all three mattresses have considerably different feels (which I will dissect in detail later in this review), they do benefit from a similar amount of name recognition and notoriety on websites likes ours and Reddit.

It’s worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far more affordable than the Casper or even the Purple, both of which come in at about $1,000.

Construction Memory Foam Mattress Versus Conventional Mattress

Let’s get started with the Nectar mattress review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress made up of three different layers that stack up to an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is the humungous 4″ of memory foam up top, which results in a considerable amount of body contouring and sinkage.

To see how this comes together, let us dive into the mattress!

Nectar Mattress Layers

Cover – The cover is comprised of both cotton and Tencel,

an eco-friendly substance famous for its breathability and softness. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which offers the sleeper with some instant relaxation. The combo of the Tencel fibers and gel infusion make for an ultra-cool layer that’ll help regulate temperatures during the evening.

Comfort Layer – Right below the cover, you’ll find 3″ of memory foam. This material has a remarkably slow response to pressure, letting the sleeper to really sink in for some gratifying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you’re likely to feel as though you are sleeping more”in” the bed than”on top” of it, which may be a pleasant feel for side sleepers in need of cushiony support in the shoulders and hips.

Transition Layer – Next you are going to find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a slightly quicker response to pressure than the foams above it. This section is meant to ease the sleeper into the firmer base below, helping to extend the contouring of the comfort layer even deeper into the mattress.

Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we have got 6 inches of high-density poly foam. This section provides the bed its stability and contour, offering a firm foundation upon which the softer foams will respond.

Firmness

After taking a peek at the construction of the Nectar, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying some light hand pressure into the mattress and discovered that I was immediately interacting with all the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the mattress, with the gentle foams contouring round my fingers. Pushing in further, I experienced deeper sinkage into the bed.

Since people of different body types and sizes are going to feel firmness differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to check out the Nectar Sleep mattress. All of us took a turn lying on the bed, and gave it a personal evaluation, then compiled them onto the graph below.

nectar-firmness-chart

While texture is always going to be a personal thing, our answers should provide you with a good notion of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.

Memory Foam Mattress Versus Conventional Mattress

Although there was a little discrepancy with our answers, we did end on an average firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the market standard for moderate firmness.

I personally gave the Nectar a 6 because I found its thick memory foam layers produced a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Irrespective of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the shape of my body, resulting in some pretty awesome sinkage. While this translated to a softer rating for mepersonally, some sleepers may find memory foam to produce a firmer feel as their bodies slowly acclimate into its morphing contour.

Pressure Map

Another important part of a new bed’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to form while lying on top of it.

To help you picture where these pressure points may arise, I put a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can find the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

nectar-pressure-map

Back – Lying on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the soft memory foam top layers contoured into my body and filled in the space in my thoracic region. Even though you may find memory foam to have an initially firm texture, as soon as you provide your body a few minutes to sink through it, you will find that it’s actually quite giving. A trade off for this satisfying pressure relief is that I did find it somewhat hard to maneuver around and change positions. Memory Foam Mattress Versus Conventional Mattress

Edge Support – Testing the edge support of this bed, I did detect some compression through the soft foam top layers. However, the high-density poly foam foundation did a good job of supporting my weight in this position, which allowed me to feel secure on the side of the bed.

Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel great pressure relief from this mattress. Side sleepers tend to favor softer mattresses which shape snuggly into the shoulders and hips, and the Nectar more than delivers on that front.

Stomach – Regrettably, this comfort did not necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my stomach. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink out of alignment with my shoulders, which made for a little tension along my backbone. Overall, stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses, so I was not too surprised by this outcome.

Motion Transfer

Next, let’s take a look at motion transfer. This test will demonstrate the quantity of disturbance detectable from one side of the bed to the other, which might be especially important for those of you who share their mattress with a partner.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

FYI: Every drop is meant to signify a different movement you’re most likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).

nectar-motion-transfer

These are incredible motion transfer outcomes! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to soften movement throughout the structure, making sure that you won’t be overly bothered by your mattress partner’s tossing and turning in the night.

Sinkage Test

When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the bed or lying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed four balls of different densities and sizes (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.

The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate different body components and different sized sleepers.

nectar-sinkage

6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Memory Foam Mattress Versus Conventional Mattress

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.

I honestly thought these results would be a little more intense! As I moved around the Nectar, I was surprised by how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is kind of surprising to see that the real measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the marketplace. That said, you are still more likely to feel as though you are sleeping “in” the Nectar instead of “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition

Now that we’ve broken down the particular, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let’s widen the scope and have a peek at some of its main competitors in the game. While each mattress has unique characteristics which make it a distinctive product in the market, it can be useful to contextualize these differences against other mattresses. Plus, who does not love a tiny cross-referencing prior to making a big purchase?

Nectar vs Purple

Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing oranges and apples — both are great in their own right, but inherently distinct goods.

– One of the most noticeable distinctions comes in the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a really bouncy material that provides pressure relief without an excessive amount of body contouring.

– This hyper-elastic polymer grid also makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, leading to a much cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.

– And finally, wherein the Nectar has practically no bounce, the Purple has an enormous quantity of buoyant support.

Nectar vs Casper

Although the Casper and Nectar are constructed entirely of foam, they actually have unbelievably divergent feels, with the latter featuring considerably more sinkage than the former.

– Additionally, one of the standout features of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which brings targeted relief to the shoulders and hips.

– This also means that the Casper has a more balanced feel than the Nectar, endearing it to a larger range of sleepers.

Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar

Does It Sleep Hot?

Unlike the majority of other memory foam mattresses that tend to sleep a little hot, the Nectar offers a high amount of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired with the infused cover keeps the temperature cool, while providing maximum comfort.

With the Nectar being a high density foam, some could find it a little warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.

Overall, our study did show that the Nectar is most definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market nowadays.

Does It Have Any Smell?

Fresh out of the box, the mattress will have a fairly strong odor for the first two days. After this, the odor starts to fade, and within a week is totally gone.

So, if the smell is something which really bothers you, then I suggest not sleeping on it the first couple days.Memory Foam Mattress Versus Conventional Mattress

Does It Require A Foundation?

The Nectar mattress could be sat right on a box spring. Or if you prefer, a platform or any other flat supportive surface. It can also be used with any adjustable bed frame, which can fit an 11′ mattress.

You can even put the Nectar directly on the ground if that’s what you’d prefer to do. Just be certain that there isn’t any moisture or water around.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Nectar?

The Nectar needs no flipping. However, it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice per year to prevent it from excessive sagging or from wearing down.

For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water with mild dish detergent, to clean any stains or dirt. Always clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.

How Durable Is The Nectar Mattress?

Compared to other foam mattresses, the Nectar according to our research has a long lifespan.

The Nectar is made with premium quality materials and meets  industry standards. According to our study, the Nectar scores an 80% owner satisfaction rating and continues to grow in popularity today.

How is Nectar’s Warranty?

Nectar provides you with their superior “Forever Warranty”

This exceptional warranty guarantees Nectar materials, construction, quality, and durability for the buying party for eternity.

Since the company stands firmly behind their mattress, they are confident that buyers will find the Nectar to be the only mattress they could possibly want or desire.

Throughout the first one to five years of ownership, full replacement is offered for free when the mattress is discovered to be defective.

After the initial five years, replacements and repairs will be honored for a one time shipping fee of $100. If a defect is found, the $100 will be waived.

Our studies reveal that consumers rate Nectar’s Forever Warranty excellent.

Is the Nectar Mattress Appropriate For You?

Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the mattress, I want to give you a few recommendations and some of the very common Nectar complaints:

Recommendations

– First and foremost, I would suggest the Nectar for anyone who wants that classic memory foam texture, deep body contouring and all.

– More specifically, I’d say this mattress might be a real winner for side sleepers, who will gain from its cushiony pressure relief in the shoulders and buttocks.

– Considering its excellent motion transfer and edge support results, I would also say the Nectar could be a solid pick for couples.

Nectar Complaints

– While a lot of folks will enjoy the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I’d say that stomach sleepers may find that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.

– It also has virtually no bounce, which might be a dealbreaker for those sleepers looking for some buoyant support.
