Nectar Sleep sells a memory foam mattress using better quality foam materials relative to its rivals at a far lower cost. Do not be tricked into thinking the Nectar mattress is not of similar caliber as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Memory Foam Mattress Versus Regular Mattress

Having gel memory foam quilted into the base of the cover and also a layer of memory foam under, the Nectar contours well, but doesn’t have the same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam and the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than most memory foam models.

A support core consisting of high-density polyfoam is made to withstand the test of time. Given its construct, we project the Nectar to survive at least 7-8 years, making it a durable option.

The Nectar is difficult to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for a reasonable bed built with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Memory Foam Mattress Versus Regular Mattress

Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has used a clever strategy of cheeky marketing and concentrated product development to evolve into one of the biggest competitors in the online bed-in-a-box marketplace. Memory Foam Mattress Versus Regular Mattress

Considering its popularity, the brand is frequently compared to Casper and Purple, two giants in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all three mattresses have substantially different feels (which I will dissect in detail later in this review), they do benefit from a similar amount of brand recognition and notoriety on websites likes ours and Reddit.

It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far more affordable than the Casper or the Purple, both of which come in at roughly $1,000.

Construction Memory Foam Mattress Versus Regular Mattress

Let us begin with the Nectar bed review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress composed of three distinct layers that stack as much as an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is the whopping 4″ of memory foam on top, which results in a considerable amount of body contouring and sinkage.

To see how all this comes together, let’s dive into the mattress!

Nectar Mattress Layers

Cover – The cover is made up of of both cotton and Tencel,

an eco-friendly material known for its breathability and softness. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam built into the cover, which offers the sleeper with some instant relaxation. The combination of the gel infusion and Tencel fibers make for an ultra-cool coating that’ll help regulate temperatures throughout the evening.

Comfort Layer – Right below the cover, you’ll encounter 3″ of memory foam. This material has a remarkably slow response to pressure, allowing the sleeper to really sink in for some satisfying pressure relief. As the foam shapes to the curves of your body, you are most likely to feel as though you are sleeping more”in” the bed compared to”on top” of it, which could be a nice feel for side sleepers needing cushiony support at the shoulders and hips.

Transition Layer – Up next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a slightly quicker reaction to pressure than the foams over it. This section is meant to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer foundation under, helping to extend the contouring of the comfort layer deeper into the mattress.

Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we’ve got 6″ of high-density poly foam. This section provides the mattress its firmness and contour, providing a firm foundation upon which the softer foams can respond.

Firmness

After taking a peek at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting some light hand pressure into the mattress and found that I was instantly interacting with the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the Nectar, with the gentle foams contouring round my palms. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the bed.

Since people of different body types and sizes will feel firmness differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to check out the Nectar Sleep mattress. We all took turns lying on the bed, and gave it a personal rating, then compiled them onto the graph below.

nectar-firmness-chart

While texture is always likely to be a personal thing, our responses should provide you with a good notion of the firmness range you may expect from the bed.

Memory Foam Mattress Versus Regular Mattress

Although there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did finish on a mean firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the market standard for medium firmness.

Personally, I gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers gave a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Regardless of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the curves of my body, resulting in some pretty awesome sinkage. While this translated into a softer rating for mepersonally, a few sleepers could find memory foam to produce a firmer sense as their bodies gradually acclimate to its morphing contour.

Pressure Map

Another important part of a new mattress’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to form while lying on top of it.

To help you picture where these pressure points might crop up, I placed a pressure map above the bed and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can see the results on the chart below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

nectar-pressure-map

Back – Lying on my back, I felt some fantastic pressure relief as the gentle memory foam top layers contoured into my entire body and filled in the space at my lumbar region. While you may find memory foam to have an initially firm texture, once you give your body a couple of minutes to sink in, you will discover that it’s actually quite giving. A trade off to this gratifying pressure relief is that I did find it somewhat difficult to move around and change positions. Memory Foam Mattress Versus Regular Mattress

Edge Support – Testing out the edge support of this mattress, I did discover some compression through the soft foam top layers. But, the high-density poly foam foundation did a fantastic job of supporting my weight in this position, which enabled me to feel safe on the side of the bed.

Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel great pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers have a tendency to prefer softer mattresses that contour snuggly into the shoulders and hips, and the Nectar more than delivers on this front.

Stomach – Unfortunately, this comfort didn’t totally carry over when I rolled onto my stomach. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink out of alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my spine. In general, stomach sleepers typically opt for firmer mattresses, therefore I wasn’t overly surprised by this result.

Motion Transfer

Up next, let us take a look at motion transfer. This test will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress to the other, which might be especially critical for those who share their mattress with a partner.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

FYI: Each drop is meant to symbolize a different movement you are likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).

nectar-motion-transfer

These are incredible motion transfer results! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to soften movement throughout the structure, ensuring you won’t be too bothered by your mattress mate’s tossing and turning in the evening.

Sinkage Test

When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the bed or lying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the bed and measured how much they compacted the top.

The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to mimic different body components and different sized sleepers.

nectar-sinkage

6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Memory Foam Mattress Versus Regular Mattress

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.

I honestly thought these results would be a bit more intense! As I moved around the Nectar, I was surprised by how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is sort of surprising to find that the real measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the marketplace. That said, you are still more likely to feel as though you’re sleeping “in” the Nectar as opposed to “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition

Now that we have broken down the particular, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let’s widen the scope and have a look at a few of its biggest competitors in the game. While every mattress has unique characteristics which make it a distinctive product in the space, it may be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other mattresses. Plus, who doesn’t love a tiny cross-referencing before making a big purchase?

Nectar vs Purple

Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing oranges and apples — both are great in their own right, but inherently distinct products.

– Among the most noticeable differences comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a really bouncy material that offers pressure relief without an excessive amount of body contouring.

– This hyper-elastic polymer grid also makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, leading to a far cooler sleeping experience than the Nectar.

– And lastly, wherein the Nectar has practically no bounce, the Purple has an enormous amount of buoyant support.

Nectar vs Casper

While both the Casper and Nectar are constructed completely of foam, they actually have incredibly divergent feels, with the latter featuring much more sinkage compared to the former.

– Additionally, one of the standout features of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which provides targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.

– This means that the Casper has a more balanced texture compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a larger selection of sleepers.

Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar

Does It Sleep Hot?

Unlike most other memory foam mattresses that generally sleep a bit hot, the Nectar provides a high level of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired together with the infused cover keeps it cool, while giving maximum comfort.

With the Nectar being a high density foam, some could find it a little warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.

Overall, our research did reveal that the Nectar is most definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses in the marketplace nowadays.

Does It Have Any Smell?

Fresh from the box, the mattress is going to have a fairly powerful odor for the first 2 days. But after, the odor starts to fade, and within a week is totally gone.

So, if the smell is something that really bothers you, I suggest not sleeping on it for the first two days.Memory Foam Mattress Versus Regular Mattress

Does It Require A Foundation?

The Nectar mattress could be sat right on a box spring. Or if you want, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. It can also be used with almost any adjustable bed frame, that can fit an 11 inch mattress.

You can even put the Nectar right on the floor if that’s what you’d prefer to do. Just make sure there isn’t any moisture or water around.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Nectar?

The Nectar needs no flipping. But, it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to stop it from wearing down or from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water along mild dish detergent, to clean any stains or dirt. Always wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.

How Durable Is The Nectar Mattress?

In comparison to other foam mattresses, the Nectar based on our research has a very long lifespan.

The Nectar is manufactured with high quality materials and matches  industry standards. According to our research, the Nectar scores an 80% owner satisfaction rating and continues to grow in popularity today.

What is Nectar’s Warranty?

Nectar offers their superior “Forever Warranty”

This unique warranty guarantees Nectar materials, construction, quality, and durability for the buying party for life.

Since the company stands firmly behind their mattress, they’re confident that purchasers will find the Nectar to be the one and only mattress they will ever want or need.

After the first five years, replacements and repairs will be honored for a 1 time shipping charge of $100. If a flaw is found, the $100 will be waived.

Our research reveal that consumers rate Nectar’s Forever Warranty excellent.

Is the Nectar Mattress Appropriate For You?

Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the bed, I want to give you a few recommendations and some of the very common Nectar complaints:

Recommendations

– First and foremost, I’d suggest the Nectar for everyone who desires that classic memory foam texture, deep body contouring and all.

– More specifically, I’d say this mattress could be a real winner for side sleepers, who will gain from its cushiony pressure relief at the shoulders and buttocks.

– Considering its excellent motion transfer and edge support results, I’d also say the Nectar could be a good choice for couples.

Nectar Complaints

– While a great deal of people will dig the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I would say that stomach sleepers may find that it pushes their buttocks out of alignment with their shoulders.

– Additionally, it has almost no bounce, which might be a dealbreaker for all those sleepers looking for some buoyant support.
