Nectar Sleep offers a memory foam mattress using better quality foam materials relative to its rivals at a far lower cost. Don’t be fooled into thinking the Nectar mattress isn’t of similar quality as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Memory Foam Mattress Vs Air Bed
Having gel memory foam quilted into the bottom of the cover and a layer of memory foam under, the Nectar shapes well, but doesn’t have the same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam and the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than most memory foam models.
A support core composed of high-density polyfoam is made to withstand the test of time. Given its makeup, we expect the Nectar to last at least 7-8 years, which makes it a lasting choice.
The Nectar is difficult to beat at this price, so if you’re searching for a reasonable mattress constructed with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Memory Foam Mattress Vs Air Bed
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has used a clever strategy of cheeky advertising and concentrated product development to evolve into one of the greatest players in the online bed-in-a-box marketplace. Memory Foam Mattress Vs Air Bed
Considering its prevalence, the brand is often compared to Casper and Purple, two behemoths in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress market. Though all three mattresses have considerably distinct feels (which I’ll dissect in full later on in this review), they do benefit from a similar amount of name recognition and notoriety on websites likes ours and Reddit.
It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far less expensive than the Casper or the Purple, both of which come in at about $1,000.

Memory Foam Mattress Vs Air Bed
Construction Memory Foam Mattress Vs Air Bed
Let us begin with the Nectar mattress review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress made up of three distinct layers which pile as much as an 11″ profile. The most notable aspect of the Nectar’s construction is its humungous 4″ of memory foam up top, which results in a significant amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how all this comes together, let us dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is made up of of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco-friendly substance famous for its softness and breathability. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which offers the sleeper with some immediate relaxation. The combo of the Tencel fibers and gel infusion make for an ultra-cool layer which will help regulate temperatures during the evening.
Comfort Layer – Directly below the cover, you’ll find 3″ of memory foam. This material has an incredibly slow response to pressure, letting the sleeper to really sink in for some satisfying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you’re most likely to feel as though you are sleeping more”in” the mattress compared to”on top” of it, which may be a nice feel for side sleepers needing cushiony support in the shoulders and buttocks.
Transition Layer – Next you are going to find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a slightly quicker reaction to pressure than the foams over it. This section is supposed to ease the sleeper into the firmer foundation under, helping to extend the contouring of the comfort layer deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we have got 6 inches of high-density poly foam. This section provides the bed its stability and shape, providing a firm foundation upon which the softer foams can respond.
After taking a peek at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying some light hand pressure into the mattress and discovered that I was immediately interacting with all the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the mattress, with the gentle foams contouring round my fingers. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the mattress.
Since people of different body types and sizes are going to feel firmness differently, I decided to bring in three other testers to have a look at the Nectar Sleep mattress. We all took a turn lying on the bed, and gave it a personal rating, then compiled them on the graph below.
While texture is always going to be a personal thing, our answers should give you with a good notion of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.
Although there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did finish on an average firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the industry standard for medium firmness.
Personally, I gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers produced a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Irrespective of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the material contouring to the shape of my body, leading to some pretty awesome sinkage. While this translated to a softer rating for mepersonally, a few sleepers may find memory foam to produce a firmer feel as their bodies slowly acclimate into its morphing contour.
Another important part of a new bed’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to shape while lying on top of it.
To help you visualize where these pressure points might crop up, I placed a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the chart below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some fantastic pressure relief as the gentle memory foam top layers shaped into my body and filled in the space at my lumbar region. While you may find memory foam to have an initially firm feel, once you give your body a few minutes to sink through it, you will find that it’s actually rather giving. A trade off for this gratifying pressure relief is that I did find it a bit hard to maneuver around and change positions. Memory Foam Mattress Vs Air Bed
Edge Support – Testing out the edge support on this bed, I did discover some compression in the soft foam top layers. However, the high-density poly foam base did a good job of supporting my weight in this position, which enabled me to feel safe on the side of the Nectar.
Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers tend to prefer softer mattresses that contour snuggly into the shoulders and buttocks, and the Nectar more than delivers on that front.
Stomach – Unfortunately, this comfort did not totally carry over when I rolled onto my stomach. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink out of alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my backbone. In general, stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses, so I wasn’t too surprised by this result.
Next, let us take a look at motion transfer. This evaluation will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other, which might be especially critical for those who share their bed with a spouse.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Every drop is intended to signify a different movement you’re likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are incredible motion transfer results! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to soften movement throughout the structure, making sure you won’t be overly bothered by your bed mate’s tossing and turning in the night.
When purchasing a new bed, most men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of different densities and sizes (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the bed and quantified how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to mimic different body components and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Memory Foam Mattress Vs Air Bed
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly believed these results would be a little more extreme! As I moved around the Nectar, I was struck by how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it’s sort of surprising to see that the actual measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the market. That being said, you’re still more likely to feel like you are sleeping “in” the Nectar instead of “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we’ve broken down the particular, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let us widen the scope and have a look at a few of its main competitors in the game. While each bed has unique characteristics that make it a distinctive product in the space, it may be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other mattresses. Plus, who doesn’t love a little cross-referencing prior to making a big purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Purple and Nectar is like comparing apples and oranges — both are lovely in their own right, but inherently distinct goods.
– Among the most noticeable distinctions comes in the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a really bouncy material that offers pressure relief without an excessive amount of body contouring.
– The hyper-elastic polymer grid also makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, leading to a much cooler sleeping experience than the Nectar.
– And lastly, wherein the Nectar has virtually no bounce, the Purple has an enormous quantity of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
While both the Casper and Nectar are constructed entirely of foam, they really have unbelievably divergent feels, with the latter featuring much more sinkage than the former.
– Also, one of the standout features of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which brings targeted relief to the shoulders and hips.
– This also means the Casper has a more balanced feel than the Nectar, endearing it to a wider range of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike the majority of other memory foam mattresses that generally sleep a bit warm, the Nectar offers a high level of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired with the infused cover keeps the temperature cool, while giving maximum comfort.
Because the Nectar is a high density foam, some could find it somewhat warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.
In general, our research did show that the Nectar is most definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market nowadays.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh from the box, the mattress will have a fairly powerful odor for the first 2 days. After this, the odor starts to fade, and within a week is totally gone.
So, if the odor is something which actually bothers you, then I suggest not sleeping on it for the first couple days.Memory Foam Mattress Vs Air Bed
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar can be sat right on a box spring. Or if you prefer, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. It can also be used with any adjustable bed frame, that can fit an 11′ mattress.
You can even use the Nectar right on the ground if that is what you would prefer to do. Just make sure that there isn’t any water or moisture around.
What Is The Best Way To Care For Your Nectar?
The Nectar needs no flipping. However, it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly one or two times a year to prevent it from wearing down or from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water with mild dish soap, to clean any dirt or stains. Always clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.

Is the Nectar Mattress Appropriate For You?
Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the mattress, I am going to provide you with a few recommendations and some of the very common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I would recommend the Nectar for everyone who desires that classic memory foam texture, deep body shaping and all.
– More specifically, I’d say this mattress might be a real winner for side sleepers, that will benefit from its cushiony pressure relief in the shoulders and buttocks.
– Considering its superb motion transfer and edge support results, I’d also say the Nectar could be a solid pick for couples.
– While a great deal of people will enjoy the thick layers of memory foam in this mattress, I would say that stomach sleepers may find that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.
– It also has almost no bounce, which could be a dealbreaker for all those sleepers in search of some buoyant support.
