Nectar Sleep offers a memory foam mattress with better quality foam materials relative to its rivals at a much lower cost. Do not be tricked into thinking the Nectar mattress isn’t of the same caliber as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Memory Foam Mattresses Versus Topper

Having gel memory foam quilted into the bottom of the cover and a layer of memory foam beneath, the Nectar contours well, but doesn’t have the same hug frequently associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam and the absence of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than many memory foam mattresses.

A support core consisting of high-density polyfoam is made to withstand the test of time. Given its makeup, we expect the Nectar to last at least 7-8 years, making it a lasting choice.

The Nectar is hard to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for an affordable mattress constructed with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Memory Foam Mattresses Versus Topper

Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has employed a smart strategy of cheeky advertising and focused product development to evolve into one of the greatest players in the online bed-in-a-box marketplace. Memory Foam Mattresses Versus Topper

Considering its popularity, the brand is frequently compared to Casper and Purple, two giants in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress market. Though all 3 mattresses have considerably different feels (which I’ll dissect in full later on in this review), they do gain from a similar amount of name recognition and notoriety on sites likes ours and Reddit.

It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is more affordable than either the Casper or the Purple, each of which come in at roughly $1,000.

Construction Memory Foam Mattresses Versus Topper

Let us begin with the Nectar mattress review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress made up of three distinct layers that pile up to an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is the whopping 4″ of memory foam up top, which results in a significant amount of body contouring and sinkage.

To see how this comes together, let’s dive into the mattress!

Nectar Mattress Layers

Cover – The cover is made up of of both cotton and Tencel,

an eco-friendly material known for its breathability and softness. Additionally, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which provides the sleeper with some immediate relaxation. The combo of the Tencel fibers and gel infusion make for an ultra-cool layer that’ll help regulate temperatures during the evening.

Comfort Layer – Right below the cover, you’ll find 3″ of memory foam. This material has an incredibly slow response to stress, letting the sleeper to really sink in for some satisfying pressure relief. As the foam shapes to the curves of your body, you are likely to feel as though you’re sleeping more”in” the bed than”on top” of it, which may be a nice feel for side sleepers needing cushiony support in the shoulders and buttocks.

Transition Layer – Next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a marginally quicker response to pressure compared to the foams over it. This section is meant to ease the sleeper into the firmer base under, helping to extend the contouring of the comfort layer even deeper into the mattress.

Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we have got 6″ of high-density poly foam. This section gives the mattress its stability and shape, providing a firm foundation upon which the softer foams will respond.

Firmness

After taking a peek at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting some light hand pressure into the mattress and found that I was instantly interacting with the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the mattress, with the gentle foams contouring around my palms. Pushing in further, I experienced deeper sinkage into the mattress.

Since people of different body types and sizes will feel stability differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to have a look at the Nectar Sleep mattress. All of us took a turn lying on the mattress, and gave it a personal evaluation, and then compiled them onto the graph below.

nectar-firmness-chart

While texture is always going to be a personal thing, our responses should provide you with a good idea of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.

Memory Foam Mattresses Versus Topper

Though there was a little discrepancy with our answers, we did end on an average firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs perfectly with the industry standard for medium firmness.

Personally, I gave the Nectar a 6 because I found its thick memory foam layers gave a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Irrespective of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the curves of my body, leading to some pretty intense sinkage. While this translated into a softer rating for me, some sleepers could find memory foam to produce a firmer feel as their bodies slowly acclimate into its morphing contour.

Pressure Map

Another important part of a new bed’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to form while lying on top of it.

To help you picture where these pressure points might arise, I put a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

nectar-pressure-map

Back – Lying on my back, I felt some fantastic pressure relief as the gentle memory foam top layers contoured to my entire body and filled in the space in my thoracic region. Even though you may find memory foam to have an initially firm texture, as soon as you give your body a couple of minutes to sink in, you will find that it’s actually rather giving. A trade off to this satisfying pressure relief is that I did find it a bit difficult to move around and change positions. Memory Foam Mattresses Versus Topper

Edge Support – Testing out the edge support on this mattress, I did detect some compression through the soft foam top layers. However, the high-density poly foam foundation did a good job of supporting my weight in this position, which enabled me to feel secure on the side of the Nectar.

Side – Turning onto my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this mattress. Side sleepers have a tendency to favor softer mattresses which shape snuggly into the shoulders and hips, and the Nectar more than delivers on that front.

Stomach – Unfortunately, this comfort did not necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my belly. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink out of alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my backbone. Overall, stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses, therefore I wasn’t too surprised by this result.

Motion Transfer

Next, let’s take a look at motion transfer. This test will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other, which might be particularly critical for those who share their bed with a partner.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

FYI: Every drop is meant to symbolize a different movement you’re likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).

nectar-motion-transfer

These are incredible motion transfer results! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to soften movement throughout the structure, ensuring you won’t be too bothered by your mattress mate’s tossing and turning in the night.

Sinkage Test

When buying a new bed, most people want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of different densities and sizes (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the bed and measured how much they compressed the surface.

The variations in size, weight and density are meant to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers.

nectar-sinkage

6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Memory Foam Mattresses Versus Topper

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.

I honestly believed these results would be a bit more intense! As I rolled around the Nectar, I was struck by just how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is sort of surprising to see that the real measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the market. That being said, you are still more likely to feel like you are sleeping “in” the Nectar instead of “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition

Now that we have broken down the particular, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let’s widen the scope and have a look at some of its main rivals in the game. While each mattress has unique features which make it a distinctive product in the space, it may be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other mattresses. Plus, who does not love a little cross-referencing before making a big purchase?

Nectar vs Purple

Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing oranges and apples — both are lovely in their own right, but inherently distinct goods.

– One of the most noticeable distinctions comes in the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a really bouncy material that offers pressure relief without too much body contouring.

– The hyper-elastic polymer grid additionally makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, leading to a much cooler sleeping experience than the Nectar.

– And lastly, wherein the Nectar has practically no bounce, the Purple has an enormous amount of buoyant support.

Nectar vs Casper

While both the Casper and Nectar are constructed entirely of foam, they actually have unbelievably divergent feels, with the latter featuring considerably more sinkage than the former.

– Additionally, one of the standout attributes of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which brings targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.

– This also means that the Casper has a more balanced feel than the Nectar, endearing it to a larger range of sleepers.

Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar

Does It Sleep Hot?

Unlike the majority of other memory foam mattresses that generally sleep a bit warm, the Nectar offers a high amount of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired with the infused cover keeps it cool, while providing maximum comfort.

With the Nectar being a high density foam, some may find it somewhat warmer than a hybrid, coil, or latex foam mattress.

In general, our study did reveal that the Nectar is definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market nowadays.

Does It Have Any Smell?

Fresh out of the box, the mattress will have a fairly strong odor for the first two days. But after, the smell starts to fade, and within a week is completely gone.

So, if the smell is something that really bothers you, I suggest maybe not sleeping on it the first two days.Memory Foam Mattresses Versus Topper

Does It Require A Foundation?

The Nectar mattress can be sat right on a box spring. Or if you prefer, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. It can also be used with any adjustable bed frame, that can fit an 11 inch mattress.

You can also put the Nectar directly on the ground if that is what you would prefer to do. Just make sure there is not any water or moisture around.

What Is The Best Way To Take Care Of The Nectar?

The Nectar requires no flipping. However, it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps one or two times a year to stop it from wearing down or from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water with mild dish detergent, to clean any stains or dirt. Always clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.

How Durable Is The Nectar Mattress?

In comparison to other foam mattresses, the Nectar according to our research has a very long lifespan.

The Nectar is made with premium quality materials and matches  all industry standards. According to our study, the Nectar scores an 80 percent owner satisfaction rating and continues to grow in popularity now.

Nectar provides you with their exceptional “Forever Warranty”

This unique warranty guarantees Nectar materials, construction, quality, and durability to the purchasing party for life.

Is the Nectar Mattress Right For You?

Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the bed, I want to provide you with a few recommendations and some of the very common Nectar complaints:

Recommendations

– First and foremost, I would recommend the Nectar for everyone who desires that classic memory foam texture, deep body contouring and all.

– More importantly, I’d say this mattress might be a real winner for side sleepers, who will benefit from its cushiony pressure relief in the shoulders and hips.

– Considering its superb motion transfer and edge support outcomes, I’d also say the Nectar might be a good pick for couples.

Nectar Complaints

– While a great deal of folks will dig the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I’d say that stomach sleepers may find that it pushes their buttocks out of alignment with their shoulders.

– It also has virtually no rebound, which might be a dealbreaker for those sleepers in search of some buoyant support.
