Nectar Sleep sells a memory foam mattress using better quality foam materials relative to its competitors at a far lower cost. Do not be fooled into thinking the Nectar mattress is not of similar quality as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Nectar Bed Foam Density
Having gel memory foam quilted into the base of the cover and a layer of memory foam beneath, the Nectar shapes well, but does not have the exact same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam along with the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps considerably cooler than many memory foam mattresses.
A support core composed of high-density polyfoam is built to withstand the test of time. Given its makeup, we expect the Nectar to last at least 7-8 years, making it a durable choice.
The Nectar is difficult to beat at this price, so if you’re searching for a reasonable mattress constructed with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Nectar Bed Foam Density
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has used a clever strategy of cheeky marketing and focused product development to evolve into one of the greatest players in the online bed-in-a-box market. Nectar Bed Foam Density
Considering its popularity, the brand is often compared to Casper and Purple, two giants in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all three mattresses have substantially distinct feels (which I’ll dissect in detail later on in this review), they do benefit from a similar amount of name recognition and notoriety on websites likes ours and Reddit.
It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far more affordable than the Casper or the Purple, both of which come in at roughly $1,000.

Construction Nectar Bed Foam Density
Let’s begin with the Nectar bed review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress composed of three distinct layers that pile up to an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is its humungous 4″ of memory foam up top, which results in a significant amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how all this comes together, let’s dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is comprised of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco-friendly substance known for its softness and breathability. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which offers the sleeper with some immediate comfort. The combination of the Tencel fibers and gel infusion make for an ultra-cool layer which will help regulate temperatures during the evening.
Comfort Layer – Directly under the cover, you’ll find 3″ of memory foam. This material has a remarkably slow response to stress, letting the sleeper to really sink in for some satisfying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you’re most likely to feel like you are sleeping more”in” the bed compared to”on top” of it, which may be a pleasant feel for side sleepers in need of cushiony support in the shoulders and hips.
Transition Layer – Up next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a marginally quicker reaction to pressure compared to the foams over it. This section is supposed to ease the sleeper into the firmer base below, helping to extend the contouring of the comfort layer even deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we have got 6″ of high-density poly foam. This section provides the bed its stability and shape, providing a firm foundation upon which the softer foams will respond.
After taking a look at the construction of the Nectar, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting some light hand pressure to the mattress and found I was instantly interacting with the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the mattress, with all the gentle foams contouring around my palms. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the mattress.
Since folks of different body types and sizes are going to feel stability differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to check out the Nectar Sleep mattress. We all took turns lying on the mattress, and gave it a personal evaluation, then compiled them on the graph below.
While feel is always likely to be a personal thing, our answers should provide you with a good idea of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.
Though there was a little discrepancy with our answers, we did finish on a mean firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the market standard for medium firmness.
I personally gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers produced a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Regardless of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the material contouring to the curves of my body, leading to some pretty intense sinkage. While this translated into a softer rating for me, a few sleepers may find memory foam to produce a firmer feel as their bodies gradually acclimate to its morphing contour.
Another important component of a new bed’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to shape while lying on top of it.
To help you visualize where these pressure points might crop up, I put a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can find the results on the chart below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some fantastic pressure relief as the soft memory foam top layers contoured to my entire body and filled in the space in my thoracic region. While you may find memory foam to have an initially firm feel, once you give your body a few minutes to sink in, you will discover that it’s actually quite giving. A trade off to this satisfying pressure relief is that I did find it somewhat difficult to maneuver around and change positions. Nectar Bed Foam Density
Edge Support – Testing the edge support on this mattress, I did discover some compression in the soft foam top layers. However, the high-density poly foam foundation did a fantastic job of supporting my weight in this position, which enabled me to feel safe on the side of the mattress.
Side – Turning onto my side, I continued to feel great pressure relief from this mattress. Side sleepers have a tendency to favor softer mattresses that shape snuggly into the shoulders and hips, and the Nectar more than delivers on this front.
Stomach – Regrettably, this comfort did not necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my belly. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink out of alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my backbone. Overall, stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses, so I wasn’t overly surprised by this outcome.
Up next, let us take a look at motion transfer. This test will demonstrate the quantity of disturbance detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other, which could be particularly critical for those of you who share their bed with a partner.
To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
FYI: Every drop is meant to signify a different movement you’re most likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are incredible motion transfer outcomes! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to soften movement across the structure, making sure that you won’t be overly bothered by your mattress mate’s tossing and turning in the night.
When purchasing a new bed, most people want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying densities and sizes (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Nectar Bed Foam Density
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly believed these results would be a little more intense! As I moved around the Nectar, I was surprised by how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is sort of surprising to find that the real measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the marketplace. That said, you are still more likely to feel like you are sleeping “in” the Nectar instead of “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we’ve broken down the particular, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let us widen the scope and have a peek at a few of its biggest competitors in the game. While each bed has unique characteristics that make it a different product in the space, it may be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other mattresses. Plus, who doesn’t love a tiny cross-referencing prior to making a big purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing oranges and apples — both are great in their own right, but fundamentally distinct goods.
– One of the most noticeable distinctions comes in the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a really bouncy material that offers pressure relief without an excessive amount of body contouring.
– The hyper-elastic polymer grid also makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, leading to a much cooler sleeping experience than the Nectar.
– And finally, where the Nectar has virtually no bounce, the Purple has a tremendous amount of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
While both the Casper and Nectar are constructed completely of foam, they actually have incredibly divergent feels, with the latter featuring considerably more sinkage compared to the former.
– Also, one of the standout features of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which provides targeted relief to the shoulders and hips.
– This also means the Casper has a more balanced texture compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a larger range of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike most other memory foam mattresses that tend to sleep a bit warm, the Nectar provides a high level of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired together with the infused cover keeps the temperature cool, while providing maximum comfort.
With the Nectar being a high density foam, some could find it a little warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.
In general, our study did show that the Nectar is definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market today.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh out of the box, the mattress will have a fairly strong odor for the first 2 days. After this, the smell starts to fade, and within a week is totally gone.
So, if the smell is something which actually bothers you, I suggest not sleeping on it for the first couple days.Nectar Bed Foam Density
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar could be sat right on a box spring. Or if you want, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. It can also be utilized with any adjustable bed frame, which can fit an 11 inch mattress.
You can also put the Nectar right on the ground if that’s what you would like to do. Just make sure there isn’t any water or moisture around.
What Is The Best Way To Care For Your Nectar?
The Nectar needs no flipping. However, it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice per year to stop it from wearing down or from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cool water along mild dish detergent, to clean any dirt or stains. Always wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.

Is the Nectar Mattress Right For You?
Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the bed, I am going to give you a few recommendations and some of the most common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I’d recommend the Nectar for everyone who desires that classic memory foam feel, deep body shaping and all.
– More importantly, I’d say this mattress might be a real winner for side sleepers, that will benefit from its cushiony pressure relief in the shoulders and buttocks.
– Considering its excellent motion transfer and edge support results, I would also say the Nectar might be a solid pick for couples.
– While a lot of people will enjoy the thick layers of memory foam in this mattress, I’d say that stomach sleepers may find that it sends their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.
– Additionally, it has almost no bounce, which could be a dealbreaker for all those sleepers in search of buoyant support.
