Nectar Sleep sells a memory foam mattress using better quality foam materials relative to its competitors at a far lower cost. Don’t be tricked into thinking the Nectar mattress is not of similar caliber as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Nectar Bed Inside

Having gel memory foam built into the base of the cover and a layer of memory foam under, the Nectar contours well, but doesn’t have the same hug frequently associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam and the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than many memory foam models.

A support core consisting of high-density polyfoam is made to withstand the test of time. Given its construct, we expect the Nectar to survive at least 7-8 years, which makes it a durable choice.

The Nectar is hard to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for a reasonable mattress constructed with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Nectar Bed Inside

Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has used a smart strategy of cheeky marketing and concentrated product development to evolve into one of the biggest competitors in the online bed-in-a-box marketplace. Nectar Bed Inside

Considering its popularity, the brand is often compared to Purple and Casper, two behemoths in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all three mattresses have considerably distinct feels (which I will dissect in detail later on in this review), they do benefit from a similar amount of brand recognition and notoriety on websites likes ours and Reddit.

It’s worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is less expensive than the Casper or the Purple, each of which come in at about $1,000.

Construction Nectar Bed Inside

Let’s get started with the Nectar mattress review. As I mentioned above, this is an all-foam mattress composed of three distinct layers which pile up to an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is the whopping 4″ of memory foam on top, which results in a significant amount of body contouring and sinkage.

To see how all this comes together, let us dive into the mattress!

Nectar Mattress Layers

Cover – The cover is made up of of both cotton and Tencel,

an eco friendly material known for its breathability and softness. Additionally, there’s an inch of gel memory foam built into the cover, which provides the sleeper with some immediate relaxation. The combo of the gel infusion and Tencel fibers make for an ultra-cool coating that’ll help regulate temperatures throughout the night.

Comfort Layer – Right below the cover, you will encounter 3″ of memory foam. This material has an incredibly slow response to pressure, allowing the sleeper to really sink in for some gratifying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you’re most likely to feel as though you are sleeping more”in” the bed than”on top” of it, which may be a nice feel for side sleepers in need of cushiony support at the shoulders and hips.

Transition Layer – Next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a marginally quicker reaction to pressure compared to the foams over it. This section is supposed to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer base below, helping to extend the shaping of the comfort layer deeper into the mattress.

Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we’ve got 6 inches of high-density poly foam. This section gives the bed its stability and contour, providing a firm foundation upon which the softer foams can respond.

Firmness

After having a look at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying some light hand pressure into the mattress and discovered that I was immediately interacting with all the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the mattress, with all the gentle foams contouring round my fingers. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the mattress.

Since people of different body types and sizes are going to feel stability differently, I decided to bring in three other testers to have a look at the Nectar Sleep mattress. We all took a turn lying on the bed, and gave it a personal rating, and then compiled them onto the graph below.

nectar-firmness-chart

While feel is always going to be a personal thing, our responses should provide you with a good notion of the firmness range you may expect from the mattress.

Nectar Bed Inside

Though there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did finish on a mean firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the market standard for medium firmness.

I personally gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers gave a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Irrespective of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the shape of my body, resulting in some pretty intense sinkage. While this translated to a softer rating for me, a few sleepers may find memory foam to provide a firmer sense as their bodies slowly acclimate into its morphing contour.

Pressure Map

Another important part of a new bed’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to shape while lying on top of it.

To help you picture where these pressure points might arise, I put a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can find the results on the chart below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

nectar-pressure-map

Back – Lying on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the gentle memory foam top layers contoured into my entire body and filled in the space at my lumbar region. Even though you might find memory foam to have an initially firm feel, once you give your body a few minutes to sink in, you’ll discover that it’s actually quite giving. A trade off to this satisfying pressure relief is that I did find it a bit hard to move around and change positions. Nectar Bed Inside

Edge Support – Testing out the edge support of this bed, I did detect some compression in the soft foam top layers. But, the high-density poly foam base did a good job of supporting my weight in this position, which enabled me to feel secure on the side of the mattress.

Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this mattress. Side sleepers have a tendency to prefer softer mattresses that contour snuggly into the shoulders and hips, and the Nectar more than delivers on this front.

Stomach – Unfortunately, this comfort didn’t necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my stomach. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink from alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my backbone. In general, stomach sleepers typically opt for firmer mattresses, so I was not overly surprised by this outcome.

Motion Transfer

Up next, let us take a look at motion transfer. This test will demonstrate the quantity of disturbance detectable from one side of the bed to the other, which might be particularly important for those who share their bed with a spouse.

To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

FYI: Every drop is meant to symbolize a different movement you are likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).

nectar-motion-transfer

These are incredible motion transfer outcomes! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to soften movement throughout the structure, making sure you will not be too bothered by your bed mate’s tossing and turning in the evening.

Sinkage Test

When purchasing a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the bed or lying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compacted the top.

The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to simulate different body components and different sized sleepers.

nectar-sinkage

6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Nectar Bed Inside

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.

I honestly thought these results would be a little more extreme! As I moved around the Nectar, I was surprised by just how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is kind of surprising to find that the actual measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the market. That being said, you are still more likely to feel as though you are sleeping “in” the Nectar as opposed to “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition

Now that we have broken down the particular, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let’s widen the scope and have a peek at some of its biggest rivals in the game. While each mattress has unique characteristics which make it a different product in the space, it may be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other mattresses. Plus, who doesn’t love a tiny cross-referencing before making a big purchase?

Nectar vs Purple

Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing oranges and apples — both are great in their own right, but fundamentally different products.

– One of the most noticeable differences comes in the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a really bouncy material that provides pressure relief without too much body contouring.

– The hyper-elastic polymer grid additionally makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, resulting in a much cooler sleeping experience than the Nectar.

– And lastly, where the Nectar has practically no bounce, the Purple has a tremendous quantity of buoyant support.

Nectar vs Casper

While both the Casper and Nectar are constructed entirely of foam, they really have unbelievably divergent feels, with the latter featuring much more sinkage compared to the former.

– Also, one of the standout features of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which provides targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.

– This also means that the Casper has a more balanced feel than the Nectar, endearing it to a larger range of sleepers.

Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar

Does It Sleep Hot?

Unlike the majority of other memory foam mattresses that tend to sleep a little hot, the Nectar offers a high amount of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired with the infused cover keeps the temperature cool, while giving maximum comfort.

With the Nectar being a high density foam, some could find it somewhat warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.

Overall, our study did show that the Nectar is definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses in the marketplace today.

Does It Have Any Smell?

Fresh out of the box, the mattress will have a fairly strong odor for the first 2 days. But after, the odor starts to fade, and within a week is totally gone.

So, if the odor is something which really bothers you, I suggest maybe not sleeping on it for the first couple days.Nectar Bed Inside

Does It Require A Foundation?

The Nectar mattress can be sat right on a box spring. Or if you prefer, a platform or any other flat supportive surface. In addition, it can be used with any adjustable bed frame, that can fit an 11′ mattress.

You can even use the Nectar right on the floor if that is what you’d prefer to do. Just make sure that there isn’t any moisture or water around.

What Is The Best Way To Take Care Of Your Nectar?

The Nectar requires no flipping. But, it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice per year to stop it from wearing down or from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water along mild dish soap, to clean any stains or dirt. Always clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.

How Durable Is The Nectar Mattress?

In comparison to other foam mattresses, the Nectar according to our studies has a very long lifespan.

The Nectar is manufactured with high quality materials and matches  all industry standards. According to our study, the Nectar scores an 80 percent owner satisfaction rating and continues to increase in popularity now.

Nectar provides you with their superior “Forever Warranty”

This exceptional warranty guarantees Nectar materials, construction, quality, and durability for the purchasing party for eternity.

Is the Nectar Mattress Right For You?

Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the mattress, I am going to give you a few recommendations and some of the most common Nectar complaints:

Recommendations

– First and foremost, I’d suggest the Nectar for anyone who desires that classic memory foam texture, deep body shaping and all.

– More specifically, I’d say this mattress could be a real winner for side sleepers, that will benefit from its cushiony pressure relief at the shoulders and buttocks.

– Considering its excellent motion transfer and edge support outcomes, I’d also say the Nectar might be a good choice for couples.

Nectar Complaints

– While a lot of folks will enjoy the thick layers of memory foam in this mattress, I’d say that tummy sleepers may find that it pushes their buttocks out of alignment with their shoulders.

– It also has virtually no rebound, which might be a dealbreaker for all those sleepers in search of buoyant support.
