Nectar Sleep offers a memory foam mattress using better quality foam materials relative to its competitors at a much lower price. Do not be tricked into believing the Nectar mattress is not of similar quality as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Nectar Bed Maintenance
Using gel memory foam built into the base of the cover and a layer of memory foam beneath, the Nectar contours well, but doesn’t have the same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam along with the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps considerably cooler than most memory foam mattresses.
A support core consisting of high-density polyfoam is made to withstand the test of time. Given its makeup, we expect the Nectar to survive at least 7-8 years, making it a durable choice.
The Nectar is hard to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for an affordable bed built with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Nectar Bed Maintenance
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has employed a clever strategy of cheeky marketing and focused product development to evolve into one of the biggest players in the online bed-in-a-box marketplace. Nectar Bed Maintenance
Considering its prevalence, the brand is often compared to Casper and Purple, two giants in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress market. Though all 3 mattresses have substantially distinct feels (which I’ll dissect in detail later in this review), they do benefit from a similar amount of name recognition and notoriety on websites likes ours and Reddit.
It’s worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far more affordable than the Casper or even the Purple, both of which come in at about $1,000.

Construction Nectar Bed Maintenance
Let’s begin with the Nectar bed review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress made up of three different layers that pile up to an 11″ profile. The most notable aspect of the Nectar’s construction is its whopping 4″ of memory foam on top, which leads to a significant amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how all this comes together, let us dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is comprised of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco friendly substance famous for its softness and breathability. Additionally, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which offers the sleeper with some immediate comfort. The combination of the Tencel fibers and gel infusion make for an ultra-cool layer which will help regulate temperatures during the evening.
Comfort Layer – Directly below the cover, you will encounter 3″ of memory foam. This material has a remarkably slow response to pressure, allowing the sleeper to really sink in for some satisfying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you are likely to feel like you’re sleeping more”in” the mattress than”on top” of it, which could be a pleasant feel for side sleepers needing cushiony support in the shoulders and buttocks.
Transition Layer – Up next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a marginally quicker reaction to pressure compared to the foams above it. This section is meant to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer base under, helping extend the contouring of the comfort layer deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we have got 6 inches of high-density poly foam. This section gives the bed its stability and contour, offering a firm foundation upon which the softer foams will respond.
After having a peek at the construction of the Nectar, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting some light hand pressure into the mattress and found I was instantly interacting with the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the Nectar, with the gentle foams contouring around my fingers. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the bed.
Since folks of different body types and sizes are going to feel firmness differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to check out the Nectar Sleep mattress. All of us took turns lying on the bed, and gave it a personal evaluation, then compiled them onto the graph below.
While feel is always going to be a personal thing, our responses should give you with a good notion of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.
Though there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did end on a mean firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the market standard for moderate firmness.
I personally gave the Nectar a 6 because I found its thick memory foam layers gave a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Regardless of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the material contouring to the shape of my body, leading to some pretty intense sinkage. While this translated to a softer rating for me, a few sleepers could find memory foam to produce a firmer sense as their bodies slowly acclimate into its morphing shape.
Another important part of a new mattress’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to shape while lying on top of it.
To help you visualize where these pressure points might crop up, I placed a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the chart below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the gentle memory foam top layers contoured into my body and filled in the space at my lumbar region. While you might find memory foam to possess an initially firm texture, once you give your body a few minutes to sink through it, you’ll find that it’s actually quite giving. A trade off to this gratifying pressure relief is that I did find it a bit hard to move around and change positions. Nectar Bed Maintenance
Edge Support – Testing out the edge support of this mattress, I did detect some compression through the soft foam top layers. However, the high-density poly foam foundation did a good job of supporting my weight in this position, which allowed me to feel secure on the side of the mattress.
Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel great pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers tend to prefer softer mattresses which contour snuggly to the shoulders and buttocks, and the Nectar more than delivers on this front.
Stomach – Regrettably, this comfort didn’t necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my belly. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink from alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my backbone. Overall, stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses, therefore I wasn’t overly surprised by this result.
Next, let’s take a look at motion transfer. This evaluation will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other, which could be particularly critical for those who share their mattress with a spouse.
To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is meant to signify a different movement you’re most likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are incredible motion transfer results! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to soften movement throughout the structure, making sure you won’t be overly bothered by your mattress partner’s tossing and turning in the evening.
When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to mimic different body components and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Nectar Bed Maintenance
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly thought these results would be a bit more intense! As I moved around the Nectar, I was surprised by just how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is sort of surprising to find that the real measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the marketplace. That said, you are still more likely to feel like you are sleeping “in” the Nectar instead of “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we have broken down the specific, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let us expand the scope and have a look at some of its biggest competitors in the game. While every mattress has unique characteristics that make it a different product in the space, it can be useful to contextualize these differences against other mattresses. Plus, who doesn’t love a tiny cross-referencing prior to making a big purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Purple and Nectar is like comparing oranges and apples — both are lovely in their own right, but inherently distinct products.
– One of the very noticeable differences comes in the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a bouncy material that provides pressure relief without an excessive amount of body contouring.
– The hyper-elastic polymer grid also makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, resulting in a much cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.
– And lastly, where the Nectar has virtually no bounce, the Purple has a tremendous amount of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
Although the Casper and Nectar are constructed completely of foam, they actually have incredibly divergent feels, with the latter featuring considerably more sinkage than the former.
– Additionally, one of the standout attributes of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which brings targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.
– This means that the Casper has a more balanced feel compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a larger selection of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike most other memory foam mattresses that generally sleep a little hot, the Nectar provides a high level of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired together with the infused cover keeps it cool, while giving maximum comfort.
Because the Nectar is a high density foam, some may find it a little warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.
Overall, our study did reveal that the Nectar is most definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market nowadays.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh out of the box, the mattress will have a fairly powerful odor for the first two days. But after, the smell starts to fade, and within a week is totally gone.
So, if the odor is something that actually bothers you, then I suggest maybe not sleeping on it the first couple days.Nectar Bed Maintenance
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar can be sat right on a box spring. Or if you prefer, a platform or any other flat supportive surface. It can also be used with any adjustable bed frame, which can fit an 11 inch mattress.
You can even use the Nectar directly on the ground if that is what you’d prefer to do. Just be certain there isn’t any moisture or water around.
What’s The Best Way To Take Care Of Your Nectar?
The Nectar needs no flipping. However, it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from excessive sagging or from wearing down.
For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water along mild dish soap, to clean any dirt or stains. Always wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
How Durable Is The Nectar Mattress?
Compared to other foam mattresses, the Nectar based on our research has a long lifespan.
The Nectar is made with premium quality materials and matches all industry standards. According to our study, the Nectar scores an 80% owner satisfaction rating and continues to grow in popularity now.

Is the Nectar Mattress Appropriate For You?
Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the mattress, I want to provide you with a few recommendations and some of the very common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I would recommend the Nectar for everyone who wants that classic memory foam texture, deep body shaping and all.
– More specifically, I would say this mattress could be a real winner for side sleepers, who will gain from its cushiony pressure relief at the shoulders and hips.
– Considering its excellent motion transfer and edge support outcomes, I’d also say the Nectar might be a good pick for couples.
– While a great deal of folks will dig the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I would say that stomach sleepers may find that it pushes their buttocks out of alignment with their shoulders.
– Additionally, it has almost no bounce, which might be a dealbreaker for those sleepers looking for buoyant support.
