Nectar Sleep sells a memory foam mattress with better quality foam materials relative to its rivals at a far lower cost. Do not be tricked into thinking the Nectar mattress isn’t of the same caliber as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Nectar Bed Review Video
Having gel memory foam built into the bottom of the cover and also a layer of memory foam beneath, the Nectar contours well, but doesn’t have the same hug frequently associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam and the absence of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than most memory foam mattresses.
A support core composed of high-density polyfoam is built to withstand the test of time. Given its construct, we expect the Nectar to survive at least 7-8 years, which makes it a durable option.
The Nectar is hard to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for a reasonable mattress constructed with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Nectar Bed Review Video
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has used a smart strategy of cheeky advertising and focused product development to evolve into one of the greatest competitors in the online bed-in-a-box marketplace. Nectar Bed Review Video
Considering its prevalence, the brand is often compared to Purple and Casper, two behemoths in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all three mattresses have substantially distinct feels (which I will dissect in full later on in this review), they do benefit from a similar amount of name recognition and notoriety on websites likes ours and Reddit.
It’s worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far less expensive than either the Casper or the Purple, each of which come in at roughly $1,000.

Construction Nectar Bed Review Video
Let us get started with the Nectar bed review. As I mentioned above, this is an all-foam mattress made up of three different layers that pile as much as an 11″ profile. The most notable aspect of the Nectar’s construction is its whopping 4″ of memory foam on top, which leads to a considerable amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how all this comes together, let’s dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is made up of of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco-friendly material famous for its breathability and softness. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which offers the sleeper with some instant comfort. The combination of the gel infusion and Tencel fibers make for an ultra-cool layer which will help regulate temperatures throughout the night.
Comfort Layer – Right under the cover, you will find 3″ of memory foam. This material has an incredibly slow response to stress, letting the sleeper to really sink in for some gratifying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you’re most likely to feel like you’re sleeping more”in” the mattress compared to”on top” of it, which could be a nice feel for side sleepers in need of cushiony support at the shoulders and hips.
Transition Layer – Next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a slightly quicker response to pressure compared to the foams above it. This section is supposed to ease the sleeper into the firmer foundation under, helping to extend the shaping of the comfort layer deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we have got 6″ of high-density poly foam. This section gives the mattress its firmness and contour, offering a firm foundation upon which the softer foams will react.
After taking a peek at the construction of the Nectar, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying some light hand pressure to the mattress and found that I was immediately interacting with the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the mattress, with the gentle foams contouring around my fingers. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the bed.
Since folks of different body types and sizes will feel stability differently, I decided to bring in three other testers to check out the Nectar Sleep mattress. All of us took turns lying on the bed, and gave it a personal rating, and then compiled them onto the chart below.
While feel is always likely to be a personal thing, our responses should provide you with a good idea of the firmness range you may expect from the bed.
Although there was a little discrepancy with our answers, we did end on an average firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the industry standard for medium firmness.
I personally gave the Nectar a 6 because I found its thick memory foam layers produced a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Regardless of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the material contouring to the curves of my body, resulting in some pretty awesome sinkage. While this translated to a softer rating for me, a few sleepers may find memory foam to provide a firmer sense as their bodies gradually acclimate to its morphing shape.
Another important component of a new bed’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are most likely to shape while lying on top of it.
To help you visualize where these pressure points may crop up, I placed a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can see the results on the chart below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some fantastic pressure relief as the gentle memory foam top layers contoured to my body and filled in the space in my thoracic region. Even though you may find memory foam to possess an initially firm texture, as soon as you give your body a couple of minutes to sink through it, you’ll discover that it’s actually rather giving. A trade off for this gratifying pressure relief is that I did find it a bit difficult to move around and change positions. Nectar Bed Review Video
Edge Support – Testing out the edge support on this bed, I did detect some compression in the soft foam top layers. But, the high-density poly foam foundation did a good job of supporting my weight in this position, which enabled me to feel safe on the side of the Nectar.
Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this mattress. Side sleepers tend to prefer softer mattresses which shape snuggly to the shoulders and buttocks, and the Nectar more than delivers on that front.
Stomach – Unfortunately, this comfort did not totally carry over when I rolled onto my stomach. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink from alignment with my shoulders, which made for a little tension along my spine. In general, stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses, so I was not too surprised by this result.
Next, let’s take a look at motion transfer. This evaluation will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other, which might be particularly critical for those who share their bed with a partner.
To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is intended to symbolize a different movement you’re most likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are incredible motion transfer results! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to soften movement across the structure, ensuring that you will not be overly bothered by your mattress mate’s tossing and turning in the evening.
When purchasing a new bed, the majority of people wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Nectar Bed Review Video
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly believed these results would be a little more intense! As I moved around the Nectar, I was struck by how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is sort of surprising to see that the actual measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the market. That being said, you’re still more likely to feel as though you are sleeping “in” the Nectar as opposed to “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we’ve broken down the specific, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let’s expand the scope and have a look at a few of its biggest competitors in the game. While each mattress has unique features that make it a different product in the space, it can be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other mattresses. Plus, who doesn’t love a little cross-referencing prior to making a big purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing oranges and apples — both are great in their own right, but inherently distinct products.
– One of the most noticeable differences comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a really bouncy material that provides pressure relief without too much body contouring.
– This hyper-elastic polymer grid also makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, leading to a much cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.
– And lastly, where the Nectar has practically no bounce, the Purple has a tremendous quantity of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
While both the Casper and Nectar are constructed entirely of foam, they really have unbelievably divergent feels, with the latter featuring considerably more sinkage compared to the former.
– Additionally, one of the standout attributes of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which provides targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.
– This also means that the Casper has a more balanced texture than the Nectar, endearing it to a wider range of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike the majority of other memory foam mattresses that tend to sleep a little hot, the Nectar provides a high level of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired with the infused cover keeps it cool, while providing maximum comfort.
Because the Nectar is a high density foam, some may find it somewhat warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.
In general, our study did show that the Nectar is most definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses in the marketplace nowadays.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh from the box, the mattress will have a fairly powerful odor for the first two days. But after, the odor starts to fade, and within a week is completely gone.
So, if the odor is something that really bothers you, I suggest maybe not sleeping on it the first couple days.Nectar Bed Review Video
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar mattress could be sat right on a box spring. Or if you prefer, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. It can also be used with any adjustable bed frame, which can fit an 11′ mattress.
You can also put the Nectar directly on the ground if that’s what you’d prefer to do. Just make sure that there isn’t any moisture or water around.
What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Nectar?
The Nectar needs no flipping. However, it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly one or two times a year to stop it from excessive sagging or from wearing down.
For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water with mild dish detergent, to clean any dirt or stains. Always clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.

Is the Nectar Mattress Appropriate For You?
Now that we’ve taken a closer look at the bed, I want to provide you with a few recommendations and some of the very common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I would suggest the Nectar for everyone who desires that classic memory foam texture, deep body contouring and all.
– More specifically, I would say this mattress could be a real winner for side sleepers, who will gain from its cushiony pressure relief in the shoulders and buttocks.
– Considering its superb motion transfer and edge support results, I would also say the Nectar might be a good pick for couples.
– While a lot of people will dig the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I’d say that stomach sleepers may find that it pushes their buttocks out of alignment with their shoulders.
– It also has virtually no rebound, which might be a dealbreaker for those sleepers in search of buoyant support.
