Nectar Sleep offers a memory foam mattress using better quality foam materials relative to its rivals at a far lower cost. Don’t be fooled into thinking the Nectar mattress isn’t of the same caliber as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Nectar Bed Slats
Using gel memory foam quilted into the base of the cover and a layer of memory foam under, the Nectar contours well, but does not have the same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam and the absence of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps considerably cooler than many memory foam mattresses.
A support core composed of high-density polyfoam is built to withstand the test of time. Given its construct, we expect the Nectar to last at least 7-8 years, which makes it a lasting choice.
The Nectar is difficult to beat at this price, so if you’re searching for a reasonable mattress constructed with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Nectar Bed Slats
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has employed a clever strategy of cheeky advertising and concentrated product development to evolve into one of the biggest competitors in the online bed-in-a-box market. Nectar Bed Slats
Considering its prevalence, the brand is frequently compared to Casper and Purple, two behemoths in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all 3 mattresses have considerably different feels (which I will dissect in detail later in this review), they do benefit from a similar amount of brand recognition and notoriety on sites likes ours and Reddit.
It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far more affordable than the Casper or even the Purple, each of which come in at about $1,000.

Construction Nectar Bed Slats
Let’s get started with the Nectar mattress review. As I mentioned above, this is an all-foam mattress made up of three different layers that stack as much as an 11″ profile. The most notable aspect of the Nectar’s construction is the whopping 4″ of memory foam up top, which leads to a considerable amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how this comes together, let’s dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is comprised of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco friendly substance known for its breathability and softness. Additionally, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which offers the sleeper with some instant comfort. The combo of the gel infusion and Tencel fibers make for an ultra-cool coating which will help regulate temperatures throughout the evening.
Comfort Layer – Directly under the cover, you will find 3″ of memory foam. This material has a remarkably slow response to pressure, allowing the sleeper to really sink in for some gratifying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you are likely to feel as though you are sleeping more”in” the bed than”on top” of it, which could be a nice feel for side sleepers needing cushiony support in the shoulders and hips.
Transition Layer – Next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a marginally quicker response to pressure compared to the foams above it. This section is supposed to ease the sleeper into the firmer foundation under, helping to extend the contouring of the comfort layer deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we’ve got 6″ of high-density poly foam. This section gives the mattress its firmness and contour, providing a firm foundation upon which the softer foams can react.
After having a look at the construction of the Nectar, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting some light hand pressure into the mattress and found I was immediately interacting with the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the Nectar, with the gentle foams contouring around my palms. Pushing in further, I experienced deeper sinkage into the mattress.
Since folks of different body types and sizes are going to feel stability differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to check out the Nectar Sleep mattress. We all took turns lying on the bed, and gave it a personal rating, then compiled them on the graph below.
While feel is always likely to be a personal thing, our answers should give you with a good notion of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.
Though there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did finish on a mean firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs perfectly with the market standard for medium firmness.
Personally, I gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers produced a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Regardless of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the curves of my body, leading to some pretty intense sinkage. While this translated to a softer rating for me, a few sleepers may find memory foam to produce a firmer feel as their bodies slowly acclimate to its morphing contour.
Another important part of a new mattress’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are most likely to form while lying on top of it.
To help you visualize where these pressure points might crop up, I placed a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the gentle memory foam top layers contoured into my entire body and filled in the space at my lumbar region. While you might find memory foam to possess an initially firm feel, once you provide your body a few minutes to sink in, you will find that it’s actually quite giving. A trade off to this satisfying pressure relief is that I did find it somewhat hard to maneuver around and change positions. Nectar Bed Slats
Edge Support – Testing out the edge support of this mattress, I did detect some compression in the soft foam top layers. But, the high-density poly foam base did a good job of supporting my weight in this position, which enabled me to feel secure on the side of the mattress.
Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this mattress. Side sleepers have a tendency to favor softer mattresses which shape snuggly to the shoulders and buttocks, and the Nectar more than delivers on that front.
Stomach – Unfortunately, this comfort did not necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my belly. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink from alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my spine. Overall, stomach sleepers typically opt for firmer mattresses, so I wasn’t overly surprised by this outcome.
Up next, let’s take a look at motion transfer. This test will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress to the other, which might be especially critical for those who share their mattress with a partner.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is meant to symbolize a different movement you’re most likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are incredible motion transfer outcomes! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to dampen movement across the structure, making sure you will not be too bothered by your mattress mate’s tossing and turning in the evening.
When buying a new bed, most men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying densities and sizes (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the bed and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body components and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Nectar Bed Slats
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly believed these results would be a bit more intense! As I rolled around the Nectar, I was surprised by how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it’s kind of surprising to find that the actual measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the marketplace. That said, you’re still more likely to feel as though you’re sleeping “in” the Nectar instead of “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we’ve broken down the specific, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let us widen the scope and have a look at a few of its biggest rivals in the game. While every bed has unique characteristics which make it a different product in the market, it can be useful to contextualize these differences against other mattresses. Plus, who doesn’t love a little cross-referencing prior to making a big purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing oranges and apples — both are lovely in their own right, but fundamentally distinct goods.
– Among the very noticeable differences comes in the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a bouncy material that offers pressure relief without an excessive amount of body contouring.
– The hyper-elastic polymer grid also makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, resulting in a far cooler sleeping experience than the Nectar.
– And finally, where the Nectar has practically no bounce, the Purple has an enormous quantity of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
While both the Casper and Nectar are constructed entirely of foam, they really have incredibly divergent feels, with the latter featuring much more sinkage compared to the former.
– Also, one of the standout features of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which brings targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.
– This also means that the Casper has a more balanced feel compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a larger range of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike most other memory foam mattresses that tend to sleep a bit warm, the Nectar provides a high level of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired together with the infused cover keeps it cool, while giving maximum comfort.
With the Nectar being a high density foam, some may find it a little warmer than a hybrid, coil, or latex foam mattress.
In general, our research did reveal that the Nectar is most definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market nowadays.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh from the box, the mattress will have a fairly powerful odor for the first two days. After this, the odor starts to fade, and within a week is totally gone.
So, if the smell is something that really bothers you, then I suggest maybe not sleeping on it for the first couple days.Nectar Bed Slats
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar mattress could be sat directly on a box spring. Or if you prefer, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. In addition, it can be used with almost any adjustable bed frame, which can fit an 11′ mattress.
You can also put the Nectar directly on the ground if that’s what you would like to do. Just be certain there is not any water or moisture around.
What’s The Best Way To Take Care Of Your Nectar?
The Nectar requires no flipping. However, it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from excessive sagging or from wearing down.
For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water along mild dish detergent, to clean any stains or dirt. Always clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
How Durable Is The Nectar Mattress?
In comparison to other foam mattresses, the Nectar according to our research has a long lifespan.

Is the Nectar Mattress Appropriate For You?
Now that we’ve taken a closer look at the mattress, I am going to give you a few recommendations and some of the most common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I’d suggest the Nectar for anyone who wants that classic memory foam feel, deep body shaping and all.
– More importantly, I’d say this mattress could be a real winner for side sleepers, that will gain from its cushiony pressure relief at the shoulders and buttocks.
– Considering its superb motion transfer and edge support outcomes, I’d also say the Nectar might be a solid choice for couples.
– While a great deal of folks will enjoy the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I would say that stomach sleepers may find that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.
– It also has almost no rebound, which might be a dealbreaker for all those sleepers looking for some buoyant support.
