Nectar Sleep offers a memory foam mattress using better quality foam materials relative to its competitors at a much lower price. Do not be fooled into thinking the Nectar mattress is not of the same caliber as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Nectar Bed Slow To Inflate

Using gel memory foam built into the bottom of the cover and a layer of memory foam beneath, the Nectar shapes well, but doesn’t have the exact same hug frequently associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam along with the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps considerably cooler than most memory foam mattresses.

A support core composed of high-density polyfoam is built to withstand the test of time. Given its construct, we expect the Nectar to last at least 7-8 years, making it a lasting option.

The Nectar is hard to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for a reasonable mattress constructed with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Nectar Bed Slow To Inflate

Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has employed a clever strategy of cheeky marketing and focused product development to evolve into one of the biggest competitors in the online bed-in-a-box marketplace. Nectar Bed Slow To Inflate

Considering its prevalence, the brand is frequently compared to Casper and Purple, two behemoths in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all 3 mattresses have considerably different feels (which I will dissect in detail later in this review), they do benefit from a similar amount of name recognition and notoriety on sites likes ours and Reddit.

It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is more affordable than the Casper or even the Purple, each of which come in at about $1,000.

Construction Nectar Bed Slow To Inflate

Let us get started with the Nectar mattress review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress made up of three distinct layers that pile as much as an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is its whopping 4″ of memory foam up top, which results in a considerable amount of body contouring and sinkage.

To see how this comes together, let us dive into the mattress!

Nectar Mattress Layers

Cover – The cover is made up of of both cotton and Tencel,

an eco friendly substance known for its softness and breathability. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which offers the sleeper with some immediate comfort. The combo of the gel infusion and Tencel fibers make for an ultra-cool layer that’ll help regulate temperatures during the evening.

Comfort Layer – Directly under the cover, you will find 3″ of memory foam. This material has an incredibly slow reaction to stress, allowing the sleeper to really sink in for some gratifying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you are most likely to feel as though you’re sleeping more”in” the bed compared to”on top” of it, which could be a pleasant feel for side sleepers in need of cushiony support at the shoulders and buttocks.

Transition Layer – Next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a marginally quicker response to pressure than the foams above it. This section is supposed to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer foundation under, helping extend the contouring of the comfort layer even deeper into the mattress.

Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we’ve got 6″ of high-density poly foam. This section gives the bed its firmness and contour, providing a firm foundation upon which the softer foams can respond.

Firmness

After taking a look at the construction of the Nectar, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting some light hand pressure to the mattress and found I was immediately interacting with the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the mattress, with the gentle foams contouring round my fingers. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the mattress.

Since folks of different body types and sizes will feel stability differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to have a look at the Nectar Sleep mattress. We all took turns lying on the bed, and gave it a personal evaluation, then compiled them onto the graph below.

nectar-firmness-chart

While feel is always going to be a personal thing, our responses should give you with a good idea of the firmness range you may expect from the bed.

Nectar Bed Slow To Inflate

Though there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did finish on an average firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the market standard for moderate firmness.

I personally gave the Nectar a 6 because I found its thick memory foam layers produced a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Regardless of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the shape of my body, resulting in some pretty intense sinkage. While this translated into a softer rating for me, some sleepers could find memory foam to provide a firmer sense as their bodies slowly acclimate to its morphing contour.

Pressure Map

Another important component of a new bed’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to form while lying on top of it.

To help you picture where these pressure points might crop up, I put a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can find the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

nectar-pressure-map

Back – Lying on my back, I felt some fantastic pressure relief as the soft memory foam top layers contoured to my body and filled in the space at my lumbar region. While you may find memory foam to have an initially firm texture, as soon as you provide your body a few minutes to sink through it, you will find that it’s actually quite giving. A trade off to this satisfying pressure relief is that I did find it somewhat difficult to move around and change positions. Nectar Bed Slow To Inflate

Edge Support – Testing the edge support on this bed, I did discover some compression through the soft foam top layers. However, the high-density poly foam foundation did a good job of supporting my weight in this position, which allowed me to feel safe on the side of the Nectar.

Side – Turning onto my side, I continued to feel great pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers tend to favor softer mattresses which shape snuggly into the shoulders and hips, and the Nectar more than delivers on this front.

Stomach – Regrettably, this comfort did not necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my belly. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink from alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my spine. Overall, stomach sleepers typically opt for firmer mattresses, therefore I wasn’t overly surprised by this result.

Motion Transfer

Next, let’s take a look at motion transfer. This evaluation will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other, which could be especially important for those who share their mattress with a spouse.

To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

FYI: Each drop is intended to signify a different movement you are likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).

nectar-motion-transfer

These are amazing motion transfer outcomes! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to soften movement across the structure, ensuring that you won’t be overly bothered by your bed partner’s tossing and turning in the night.

Sinkage Test

When purchasing a new bed, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the bed or lying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of varying densities and sizes (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the bed and quantified how much they compacted the top.

The variations in size, density and weight are meant to mimic different body components and different sized sleepers.

nectar-sinkage

6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Nectar Bed Slow To Inflate

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.

I honestly believed these results would be a little more extreme! As I moved around the Nectar, I was struck by just how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is kind of surprising to see that the real measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the marketplace. That said, you are still more likely to feel like you’re sleeping “in” the Nectar instead of “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition

Now that we have broken down the particular, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let’s expand the scope and take a peek at some of its biggest rivals in the game. While each bed has unique characteristics that make it a different product in the market, it can be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other mattresses. Plus, who doesn’t love a little cross-referencing prior to making a big purchase?

Nectar vs Purple

Comparing Purple and Nectar is like comparing apples and oranges — both are great in their own right, but inherently different products.

– One of the most noticeable distinctions comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a bouncy material that offers pressure relief without too much body contouring.

– The hyper-elastic polymer grid also makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, leading to a much cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.

– And lastly, wherein the Nectar has virtually no bounce, the Purple has an enormous quantity of buoyant support.

Nectar vs Casper

While both the Casper and Nectar are constructed entirely of foam, they really have incredibly divergent feels, with the latter featuring much more sinkage compared to the former.

– Also, one of the standout features of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which provides targeted relief to the shoulders and hips.

– This also means that the Casper has a more balanced feel compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a wider selection of sleepers.

Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar

Does It Sleep Hot?

Unlike the majority of other memory foam mattresses that generally sleep a little hot, the Nectar provides a high level of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired with the infused cover keeps the temperature cool, while giving maximum comfort.

With the Nectar being a high density foam, some may find it somewhat warmer than a hybrid, coil, or latex foam mattress.

Overall, our research did reveal that the Nectar is definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market nowadays.

Does It Have Any Smell?

Fresh out of the box, the mattress will have a fairly strong odor for the first 2 days. After this, the odor starts to fade, and within a week is totally gone.

So, if the odor is something that really bothers you, then I suggest not sleeping on it for the first couple days.Nectar Bed Slow To Inflate

Does It Require A Foundation?

The Nectar could be sat right on a box spring. Or if you want, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. In addition, it can be used with any adjustable bed frame, that can fit an 11 inch mattress.

You can even put the Nectar directly on the floor if that is what you’d prefer to do. Just be certain there isn’t any water or moisture around.

What Is The Best Way To Take Care Of Your Nectar?

The Nectar requires no flipping. However, it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice per year to prevent it from wearing down or from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water along mild dish soap, to clean any dirt or stains. Always wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.

How Durable Is The Nectar Mattress?

Compared to other foam mattresses, the Nectar according to our studies has a long lifespan.

The Nectar is manufactured with high quality materials and matches  industry standards. According to our research, the Nectar scores an 80% owner satisfaction rating and continues to increase in popularity now.

How is Nectar’s Warranty?

Nectar offers their superior “Forever Warranty”

This exceptional warranty guarantees Nectar materials, construction, quality, and durability for the buying party for life.

Since the company stands firmly behind their mattress, they’re confident that buyers will find the Nectar to be the one and only mattress they will ever want or need.

During the initial one to five years of ownership, full replacement is offered for free if the mattress is discovered to be defective.

After the first 5 years, replacements and repairs will be honored for a 1 time transportation fee of $100. If a defect is found, the $100 will be waived.

Our research show that consumers find Nectar’s Forever Warranty excellent.

Is the Nectar Mattress Right For You?

Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the mattress, I want to give you a few recommendations and some of the very common Nectar complaints:

Recommendations

– First and foremost, I would suggest the Nectar for everyone who desires that classic memory foam texture, deep body shaping and all.

– More specifically, I’d say this mattress might be a real winner for side sleepers, that will benefit from its cushiony pressure relief in the shoulders and buttocks.

– Considering its superb motion transfer and edge support outcomes, I’d also say the Nectar might be a good choice for couples.

Nectar Complaints

– While a lot of folks will enjoy the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I would say that tummy sleepers may find that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.

– Additionally, it has almost no bounce, which might be a dealbreaker for all those sleepers looking for buoyant support.
