Nectar Sleep offers a memory foam mattress using better quality foam materials relative to its rivals at a far lower cost. Do not be fooled into believing the Nectar mattress isn’t of the same caliber as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Nectar Mattress California King
Having gel memory foam quilted into the base of the cover and a layer of memory foam beneath, the Nectar shapes well, but does not have the same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam along with the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than many memory foam mattresses.
A support core composed of high-density polyfoam is built to withstand the test of time. Given its makeup, we project the Nectar to last at least 7-8 years, making it a lasting option.
The Nectar is difficult to beat at this price, so if you’re searching for an affordable bed built with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Nectar Mattress California King
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has employed a smart strategy of cheeky advertising and concentrated product development to evolve into one of the greatest competitors in the online bed-in-a-box marketplace. Nectar Mattress California King
Considering its prevalence, the brand is often compared to Casper and Purple, two behemoths in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all 3 mattresses have substantially distinct feels (which I’ll dissect in detail later on in this review), they do gain from a similar amount of brand recognition and notoriety on sites likes ours and Reddit.
It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far more affordable than either the Casper or the Purple, each of which come in at roughly $1,000.

Construction Nectar Mattress California King
Let’s get started with the Nectar mattress review. As I mentioned above, this is an all-foam mattress composed of three different layers that stack as much as an 11″ profile. The most notable aspect of the Nectar’s construction is its whopping 4″ of memory foam up top, which results in a considerable amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how this comes together, let us dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is made up of of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco friendly material known for its breathability and softness. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which provides the sleeper with some immediate relaxation. The combo of the gel infusion and Tencel fibers make for an ultra-cool layer that’ll help regulate temperatures throughout the evening.
Comfort Layer – Right under the cover, you will encounter 3″ of memory foam. This material has a remarkably slow reaction to pressure, allowing the sleeper to really sink in for some satisfying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you’re likely to feel like you’re sleeping more”in” the mattress than”on top” of it, which could be a pleasant feel for side sleepers in need of cushiony support at the shoulders and buttocks.
Transition Layer – Up next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a marginally quicker reaction to pressure compared to the foams above it. This section is meant to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer foundation below, helping extend the contouring of the comfort layer even deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we have got 6 inches of high-density poly foam. This section gives the mattress its firmness and shape, providing a firm foundation upon which the softer foams can react.
After taking a look at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting some light hand pressure to the mattress and found that I was instantly interacting with the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the mattress, with the gentle foams contouring around my fingers. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the bed.
Since people of different body types and sizes will feel stability differently, I decided to bring in three other testers to have a look at the Nectar Sleep mattress. All of us took turns lying on the bed, and gave it a personal rating, and then compiled them on the graph below.
While feel is always going to be a personal thing, our responses should give you with a good idea of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.
Though there was a little discrepancy with our answers, we did end on a mean firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs perfectly with the industry standard for medium firmness.
I personally gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers gave a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Regardless of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the curves of my body, leading to some pretty intense sinkage. While this translated to a softer rating for mepersonally, some sleepers may find memory foam to produce a firmer feel as their bodies gradually acclimate into its morphing contour.
Another important part of a new bed’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to form while lying on top of it.
To help you visualize where these pressure points may crop up, I put a pressure map above the bed and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the gentle memory foam top layers shaped to my body and filled in the space at my lumbar region. While you might find memory foam to have an initially firm texture, once you give your body a few minutes to sink in, you’ll discover that it’s actually quite giving. A trade off for this satisfying pressure relief is that I did find it a bit hard to maneuver around and change positions. Nectar Mattress California King
Edge Support – Testing the edge support on this mattress, I did detect some compression in the soft foam top layers. However, the high-density poly foam foundation did a good job of supporting my weight in this position, which enabled me to feel secure on the side of the bed.
Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel great pressure relief from this mattress. Side sleepers tend to favor softer mattresses which shape snuggly to the shoulders and hips, and the Nectar more than delivers on this front.
Stomach – Unfortunately, this comfort didn’t necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my belly. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink from alignment with my shoulders, which made for a little tension along my spine. In general, stomach sleepers typically opt for firmer mattresses, so I wasn’t overly surprised by this result.
Up next, let’s take a look at motion transfer. This evaluation will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the bed to the other, which could be especially critical for those who share their bed with a partner.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is intended to signify a different movement you are most likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are amazing motion transfer outcomes! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to soften movement across the structure, ensuring you will not be too bothered by your bed partner’s tossing and turning in the evening.
When purchasing a new bed, most people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying densities and sizes (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the bed and quantified how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate different body components and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Nectar Mattress California King
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly thought these results would be a bit more intense! As I rolled around the Nectar, I was surprised by how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is sort of surprising to see that the real measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the marketplace. That said, you’re still more likely to feel as though you are sleeping “in” the Nectar instead of “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we have broken down the specific, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let’s widen the scope and take a look at some of its main rivals in the game. While every mattress has unique characteristics which make it a different product in the market, it may be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other mattresses. Plus, who doesn’t love a tiny cross-referencing before making a big purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing oranges and apples — both are lovely in their own right, but fundamentally distinct goods.
– Among the very noticeable differences comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a really bouncy material that offers pressure relief without an excessive amount of body contouring.
– This hyper-elastic polymer grid additionally makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, resulting in a much cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.
– And finally, wherein the Nectar has practically no bounce, the Purple has a tremendous amount of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
While both the Casper and Nectar are constructed entirely of foam, they actually have incredibly divergent feels, with the latter featuring much more sinkage than the former.
– Also, one of the standout attributes of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which brings targeted relief to the shoulders and hips.
– This means the Casper has a more balanced texture compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a larger range of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike the majority of other memory foam mattresses that generally sleep a little warm, the Nectar offers a high amount of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired together with the infused cover keeps it cool, while giving maximum comfort.
Because the Nectar is a high density foam, some could find it somewhat warmer than a hybrid, coil, or latex foam mattress.
Overall, our research did reveal that the Nectar is most definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses in the marketplace today.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh out of the box, the mattress will have a fairly powerful odor for the first 2 days. But after, the smell starts to fade, and in just a week is totally gone.
So, if the odor is something that actually bothers you, then I suggest maybe not sleeping on it the first two days.Nectar Mattress California King
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar mattress could be sat right on a box spring. Or if you prefer, a platform or any other flat supportive surface. In addition, it can be used with almost any adjustable bed frame, which can fit an 11′ mattress.
You can even put the Nectar directly on the ground if that’s what you’d prefer to do. Just be certain there isn’t any moisture or water around.
What’s The Best Way To Take Care Of The Nectar?
The Nectar requires no flipping. But, it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice per year to prevent it from excessive sagging or from wearing down.
For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water along mild dish soap, to clean any stains or dirt. Always wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.

Is the Nectar Mattress Right For You?
Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the bed, I want to provide you with a few recommendations and some of the very common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I’d suggest the Nectar for everyone who desires that classic memory foam feel, deep body contouring and all.
– More specifically, I’d say this mattress could be a real winner for side sleepers, who will benefit from its cushiony pressure relief at the shoulders and hips.
– Considering its excellent motion transfer and edge support outcomes, I’d also say the Nectar could be a good pick for couples.
– While a great deal of folks will enjoy the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I would say that stomach sleepers may find that it sends their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.
– It also has virtually no bounce, which could be a dealbreaker for those sleepers in search of some buoyant support.
