Nectar Sleep offers a memory foam mattress using better quality foam materials relative to its rivals at a far lower price. Do not be tricked into believing the Nectar mattress is not of similar quality as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Nectar Mattress Comparison
Using gel memory foam built into the base of the cover and a layer of memory foam under, the Nectar contours well, but doesn’t have the exact same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam along with the absence of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps considerably cooler than most memory foam models.
A support core composed of high-density polyfoam is made to withstand the test of time. Given its makeup, we project the Nectar to survive at least 7-8 years, which makes it a durable option.
The Nectar is difficult to beat at this price, so if you’re searching for an affordable bed built with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Nectar Mattress Comparison
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has employed a smart strategy of cheeky advertising and focused product development to evolve into one of the greatest competitors in the online bed-in-a-box market. Nectar Mattress Comparison
Considering its popularity, the brand is frequently compared to Purple and Casper, two behemoths in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all three mattresses have substantially distinct feels (which I will dissect in detail later on in this review), they do gain from a similar amount of brand recognition and notoriety on sites likes ours and Reddit.
It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far more affordable than either the Casper or the Purple, each of which come in at roughly $1,000.

Construction Nectar Mattress Comparison
Let’s begin with the Nectar bed review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress made up of three distinct layers that stack up to an 11″ profile. The most notable aspect of the Nectar’s construction is its whopping 4″ of memory foam on top, which results in a significant amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how this comes together, let us dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is made up of of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco-friendly material famous for its breathability and softness. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which provides the sleeper with some immediate comfort. The combo of the gel infusion and Tencel fibers make for an ultra-cool layer which will help regulate temperatures during the night.
Comfort Layer – Right under the cover, you will encounter 3″ of memory foam. This material has a remarkably slow reaction to stress, letting the sleeper to really sink in for some gratifying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you are most likely to feel like you are sleeping more”in” the mattress compared to”on top” of it, which may be a nice feel for side sleepers in need of cushiony support in the shoulders and hips.
Transition Layer – Up next you are going to find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a slightly quicker response to pressure compared to the foams over it. This section is meant to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer base below, helping to extend the shaping of the comfort layer deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we’ve got 6″ of high-density poly foam. This section gives the mattress its firmness and contour, offering a firm foundation upon which the softer foams can react.
After having a peek at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting some light hand pressure into the mattress and discovered that I was instantly interacting with all the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the mattress, with the gentle foams contouring round my palms. Pushing in further, I experienced deeper sinkage into the bed.
Since folks of different body types and sizes are going to feel firmness differently, I decided to bring in three other testers to have a look at the Nectar Sleep mattress. We all took a turn lying on the bed, and gave it a personal evaluation, and then compiled them on the graph below.
While feel is always going to be a personal thing, our responses should give you with a good notion of the firmness range you may expect from the bed.
Although there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did end on a mean firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the market standard for medium firmness.
I personally gave the Nectar a 6 because I found its thick memory foam layers gave a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Irrespective of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the material contouring to the shape of my body, leading to some pretty awesome sinkage. While this translated to a softer rating for mepersonally, a few sleepers may find memory foam to produce a firmer feel as their bodies gradually acclimate into its morphing shape.
Another important component of a new mattress’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to form while lying on top of it.
To help you visualize where these pressure points might arise, I placed a pressure map above the bed and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the gentle memory foam top layers shaped to my entire body and filled in the space in my thoracic region. Even though you may find memory foam to possess an initially firm feel, once you give your body a couple of minutes to sink in, you’ll discover that it’s actually quite giving. A trade off for this satisfying pressure relief is that I did find it somewhat difficult to maneuver around and change positions. Nectar Mattress Comparison
Edge Support – Testing out the edge support of this mattress, I did discover some compression in the soft foam top layers. But, the high-density poly foam foundation did a good job of supporting my weight in this position, which enabled me to feel secure on the side of the bed.
Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers tend to favor softer mattresses which contour snuggly to the shoulders and hips, and the Nectar more than delivers on that front.
Stomach – Unfortunately, this comfort did not necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my stomach. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink from alignment with my shoulders, which made for a little tension along my backbone. Overall, stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses, so I wasn’t overly surprised by this result.
Next, let us take a look at motion transfer. This test will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other, which could be particularly critical for those of you who share their mattress with a partner.
To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is intended to symbolize a different movement you are most likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are incredible motion transfer results! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to dampen movement throughout the structure, making sure you won’t be overly bothered by your bed mate’s tossing and turning in the night.
When buying a new bed, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the bed or lying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of different densities and sizes (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the bed and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate different body components and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Nectar Mattress Comparison
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly believed these results would be a little more intense! As I moved around the Nectar, I was surprised by how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is sort of surprising to find that the actual measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the market. That said, you are still more likely to feel like you’re sleeping “in” the Nectar as opposed to “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we’ve broken down the specific, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let us widen the scope and have a look at a few of its biggest rivals in the game. While every bed has unique features which make it a distinctive product in the space, it may be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other beds. Plus, who does not love a tiny cross-referencing before making a big purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Purple and Nectar is like comparing apples and oranges — both are great in their own right, but fundamentally distinct products.
– One of the most noticeable distinctions comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a bouncy material that provides pressure relief without an excessive amount of body contouring.
– The hyper-elastic polymer grid additionally makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, leading to a far cooler sleeping experience than the Nectar.
– And finally, where the Nectar has virtually no bounce, the Purple has a tremendous amount of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
While both the Casper and Nectar are constructed completely of foam, they actually have incredibly divergent feels, with the latter featuring considerably more sinkage compared to the former.
– Additionally, one of the standout attributes of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which brings targeted relief to the shoulders and hips.
– This means that the Casper has a more balanced feel compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a larger range of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike the majority of other memory foam mattresses that generally sleep a bit hot, the Nectar offers a high amount of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired with the infused cover keeps it cool, while giving maximum comfort.
With the Nectar being a high density foam, some could find it a little warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.
In general, our research did reveal that the Nectar is definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market nowadays.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh out of the box, the mattress is going to have a fairly strong odor for the first two days. But after, the smell starts to fade, and in just a week is completely gone.
So, if the smell is something that actually bothers you, then I suggest maybe not sleeping on it the first two days.Nectar Mattress Comparison
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar can be sat directly on a box spring. Or if you prefer, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. It can also be used with any adjustable bed frame, which can fit an 11′ mattress.
You can also use the Nectar directly on the ground if that is what you would like to do. Just be certain there isn’t any moisture or water around.
What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Nectar?
The Nectar needs no flipping. However, it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps one or two times a year to prevent it from wearing down or from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water along mild dish soap, to clean any stains or dirt. Always wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.

Is the Nectar Mattress Appropriate For You?
Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the mattress, I am going to give you a few recommendations and some of the most common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I would suggest the Nectar for anyone who desires that classic memory foam texture, deep body contouring and all.
– More importantly, I’d say this mattress could be a real winner for side sleepers, that will benefit from its cushiony pressure relief in the shoulders and hips.
– Considering its superb motion transfer and edge support results, I’d also say the Nectar might be a solid pick for couples.
– While a lot of people will enjoy the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I would say that stomach sleepers may find that it pushes their buttocks out of alignment with their shoulders.
– It also has almost no bounce, which might be a dealbreaker for all those sleepers looking for some buoyant support.
