Nectar Sleep sells a memory foam mattress with better quality foam materials relative to its competitors at a far lower cost. Do not be tricked into thinking the Nectar mattress is not of the same caliber as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Nectar Mattress Owners
Using gel memory foam quilted into the bottom of the cover and a layer of memory foam under, the Nectar contours well, but does not have the same hug frequently associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam and the absence of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than most memory foam mattresses.
A support core composed of high-density polyfoam is made to withstand the test of time. Given its construct, we expect the Nectar to last at least 7-8 years, making it a lasting option.
The Nectar is difficult to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for an affordable mattress constructed with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Nectar Mattress Owners
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has used a smart strategy of cheeky marketing and focused product development to evolve into one of the biggest players in the online bed-in-a-box market. Nectar Mattress Owners
Considering its prevalence, the brand is frequently compared to Casper and Purple, two behemoths in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all 3 mattresses have substantially different feels (which I will dissect in detail later in this review), they do benefit from a similar amount of name recognition and notoriety on sites likes ours and Reddit.
It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is more affordable than either the Casper or the Purple, both of which come in at about $1,000.

Construction Nectar Mattress Owners
Let’s begin with the Nectar bed review. As I mentioned above, this is an all-foam mattress made up of three distinct layers which pile up to an 11″ profile. The most notable aspect of the Nectar’s construction is the whopping 4″ of memory foam on top, which results in a considerable amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how all this comes together, let’s dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is made up of of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco friendly substance famous for its softness and breathability. Additionally, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which offers the sleeper with some immediate comfort. The combo of the Tencel fibers and gel infusion make for an ultra-cool layer that’ll help regulate temperatures during the night.
Comfort Layer – Right below the cover, you will find 3″ of memory foam. This material has a remarkably slow response to pressure, allowing the sleeper to really sink in for some satisfying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you’re likely to feel as though you’re sleeping more”in” the bed than”on top” of it, which may be a nice feel for side sleepers needing cushiony support in the shoulders and buttocks.
Transition Layer – Up next you are going to find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a marginally quicker response to pressure than the foams over it. This section is supposed to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer base under, helping to extend the contouring of the comfort layer even deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we have got 6 inches of high-density poly foam. This section gives the bed its stability and shape, offering a firm foundation upon which the softer foams will respond.
After taking a look at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying some light hand pressure into the mattress and found I was immediately interacting with the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the Nectar, with all the gentle foams contouring around my fingers. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the bed.
Since people of different body types and sizes are going to feel stability differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to check out the Nectar Sleep mattress. We all took a turn lying on the mattress, and gave it a personal rating, then compiled them on the graph below.
While feel is always going to be a personal thing, our answers should give you with a good notion of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.
Although there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did finish on a mean firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the market standard for medium firmness.
I personally gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers produced a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Irrespective of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the shape of my body, leading to some pretty intense sinkage. While this translated into a softer rating for me, a few sleepers may find memory foam to provide a firmer sense as their bodies slowly acclimate into its morphing shape.
Another important component of a new bed’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to form while lying on top of it.
To help you visualize where these pressure points might arise, I put a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the results on the chart below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the gentle memory foam top layers shaped to my body and filled in the space in my thoracic region. While you may find memory foam to have an initially firm feel, once you provide your body a few minutes to sink through it, you will discover that it’s actually quite giving. A trade off to this gratifying pressure relief is that I did find it somewhat difficult to maneuver around and change positions. Nectar Mattress Owners
Edge Support – Testing the edge support on this mattress, I did discover some compression in the soft foam top layers. However, the high-density poly foam base did a good job of supporting my weight in this position, which allowed me to feel safe on the side of the mattress.
Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers tend to favor softer mattresses that contour snuggly to the shoulders and hips, and the Nectar more than delivers on that front.
Stomach – Unfortunately, this comfort did not totally carry over when I rolled onto my belly. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink from alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my backbone. Overall, stomach sleepers typically opt for firmer mattresses, so I wasn’t overly surprised by this outcome.
Next, let’s take a look at motion transfer. This evaluation will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the bed to the other, which could be particularly important for those of you who share their bed with a partner.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
FYI: Every drop is intended to symbolize a different movement you are likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are incredible motion transfer results! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to dampen movement across the structure, ensuring you will not be too bothered by your bed partner’s tossing and turning in the night.
When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the bed or lying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of different densities and sizes (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to mimic different body components and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Nectar Mattress Owners
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly thought these results would be a bit more extreme! As I moved around the Nectar, I was surprised by just how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is kind of surprising to see that the real measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the marketplace. That said, you’re still more likely to feel as though you’re sleeping “in” the Nectar instead of “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we’ve broken down the specific, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let’s expand the scope and take a peek at some of its biggest rivals in the game. While every mattress has unique characteristics which make it a distinctive product in the space, it can be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other beds. Plus, who doesn’t love a little cross-referencing before making a large purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing apples and oranges — both are lovely in their own right, but fundamentally distinct goods.
– One of the most noticeable distinctions comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a bouncy material that provides pressure relief without an excessive amount of body contouring.
– The hyper-elastic polymer grid also makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, resulting in a far cooler sleeping experience than the Nectar.
– And finally, wherein the Nectar has virtually no bounce, the Purple has a tremendous quantity of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
While both the Casper and Nectar are built entirely of foam, they really have unbelievably divergent feels, with the latter featuring much more sinkage compared to the former.
– Also, one of the standout attributes of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which brings targeted relief to the shoulders and hips.
– This also means the Casper has a more balanced feel compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a larger selection of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike most other memory foam mattresses that tend to sleep a bit warm, the Nectar offers a high level of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired together with the infused cover keeps the temperature cool, while providing maximum comfort.
Because the Nectar is a high density foam, some may find it a little warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.
Overall, our research did reveal that the Nectar is most definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market today.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh from the box, the mattress is going to have a fairly strong odor for the first 2 days. After this, the odor starts to fade, and within a week is completely gone.
So, if the smell is something which really bothers you, then I suggest not sleeping on it for the first two days.Nectar Mattress Owners
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar mattress can be sat directly on a box spring. Or if you want, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. In addition, it can be used with almost any adjustable bed frame, that can fit an 11 inch mattress.
You can also put the Nectar right on the ground if that’s what you would like to do. Just make sure there isn’t any moisture or water around.
What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Nectar?
The Nectar needs no flipping. But, it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps one or two times a year to prevent it from wearing down or from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water with mild dish detergent, to clean any stains or dirt. Always wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
How Durable Is The Nectar Mattress?
In comparison to other foam mattresses, the Nectar based on our research has a very long lifespan.
The Nectar is manufactured with high quality materials and meets industry standards. According to our study, the Nectar scores an 80 percent owner satisfaction rating and continues to increase in popularity now.

Is the Nectar Mattress Right For You?
Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the mattress, I am going to provide you with a few recommendations and some of the very common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I’d suggest the Nectar for everyone who desires that classic memory foam texture, deep body shaping and all.
– More importantly, I would say this mattress could be a real winner for side sleepers, who will gain from its cushiony pressure relief in the shoulders and buttocks.
– Considering its excellent motion transfer and edge support outcomes, I’d also say the Nectar could be a good pick for couples.
– While a lot of people will dig the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I’d say that tummy sleepers may find that it sends their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.
– Additionally, it has virtually no bounce, which might be a dealbreaker for those sleepers in search of buoyant support.
