Nectar Sleep offers a memory foam mattress with better quality foam materials relative to its competitors at a far lower cost. Do not be fooled into believing the Nectar mattress isn’t of similar caliber as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Nectar Mattress Rotation
Using gel memory foam built into the bottom of the cover and also a layer of memory foam beneath, the Nectar shapes well, but doesn’t have the exact same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam and the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than many memory foam mattresses.
A support core consisting of high-density polyfoam is built to withstand the test of time. Given its construct, we project the Nectar to last at least 7-8 years, making it a durable choice.
The Nectar is hard to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for an affordable mattress constructed with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Nectar Mattress Rotation
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has employed a smart strategy of cheeky marketing and focused product development to evolve into one of the greatest competitors in the online bed-in-a-box marketplace. Nectar Mattress Rotation
Considering its prevalence, the brand is frequently compared to Casper and Purple, two behemoths in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress market. Though all three mattresses have substantially different feels (which I’ll dissect in detail later on in this review), they do benefit from a similar amount of name recognition and notoriety on websites likes ours and Reddit.
It’s worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is less expensive than either the Casper or the Purple, both of which come in at roughly $1,000.

Construction Nectar Mattress Rotation
Let’s get started with the Nectar mattress review. As I mentioned above, this is an all-foam mattress made up of three distinct layers which pile up to an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is its humungous 4″ of memory foam up top, which results in a significant amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how all this comes together, let us dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is comprised of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco friendly substance known for its softness and breathability. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which offers the sleeper with some immediate comfort. The combination of the gel infusion and Tencel fibers make for an ultra-cool layer which will help regulate temperatures throughout the evening.
Comfort Layer – Directly below the cover, you will encounter 3″ of memory foam. This material has an incredibly slow response to stress, allowing the sleeper to really sink in for some gratifying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you’re likely to feel as though you’re sleeping more”in” the mattress than”on top” of it, which may be a pleasant feel for side sleepers needing cushiony support in the shoulders and hips.
Transition Layer – Next you are going to find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a slightly quicker response to pressure than the foams over it. This section is supposed to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer foundation below, helping extend the contouring of the comfort layer deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we have got 6″ of high-density poly foam. This section gives the bed its firmness and contour, providing a firm foundation upon which the softer foams will react.
After having a peek at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting some light hand pressure into the mattress and found I was immediately interacting with the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the Nectar, with the gentle foams contouring around my palms. Pushing in further, I experienced deeper sinkage into the mattress.
Since people of different body types and sizes will feel firmness differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to check out the Nectar Sleep mattress. All of us took a turn lying on the mattress, and gave it a personal evaluation, and then compiled them on the graph below.
While texture is always likely to be a personal thing, our answers should provide you with a good idea of the firmness range you may expect from the mattress.
Although there was a little discrepancy with our answers, we did finish on an average firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the market standard for medium firmness.
I personally gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers gave a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Regardless of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the shape of my body, resulting in some pretty awesome sinkage. While this translated to a softer rating for me, some sleepers may find memory foam to produce a firmer feel as their bodies gradually acclimate into its morphing shape.
Another important part of a new bed’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are most likely to shape while lying on top of it.
To help you picture where these pressure points may arise, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can find the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the soft memory foam top layers contoured to my body and filled in the space at my lumbar region. While you might find memory foam to have an initially firm texture, as soon as you provide your body a few minutes to sink in, you will discover that it’s actually rather giving. A trade off for this satisfying pressure relief is that I did find it a bit hard to move around and change positions. Nectar Mattress Rotation
Edge Support – Testing the edge support on this bed, I did discover some compression through the soft foam top layers. But, the high-density poly foam foundation did a fantastic job of supporting my weight in this position, which allowed me to feel safe on the side of the Nectar.
Side – Turning onto my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers have a tendency to prefer softer mattresses that contour snuggly into the shoulders and buttocks, and the Nectar more than delivers on this front.
Stomach – Regrettably, this comfort didn’t necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my stomach. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink from alignment with my shoulders, which made for a little tension along my spine. In general, stomach sleepers typically opt for firmer mattresses, therefore I was not overly surprised by this outcome.
Up next, let us take a look at motion transfer. This evaluation will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress to the other, which could be especially critical for those who share their mattress with a spouse.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Every drop is intended to signify a different movement you are likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are incredible motion transfer outcomes! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to soften movement across the structure, ensuring that you will not be too bothered by your bed partner’s tossing and turning in the evening.
When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Nectar Mattress Rotation
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly believed these results would be a little more extreme! As I moved around the Nectar, I was struck by just how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is kind of surprising to find that the actual measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the market. That being said, you are still more likely to feel as though you are sleeping “in” the Nectar as opposed to “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we have broken down the specific, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let us expand the scope and take a look at a few of its biggest rivals in the game. While each mattress has unique features which make it a distinctive product in the market, it may be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other mattresses. Plus, who does not love a little cross-referencing prior to making a large purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing oranges and apples — both are great in their own right, but fundamentally different goods.
– One of the very noticeable differences comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a bouncy material that offers pressure relief without too much body contouring.
– This hyper-elastic polymer grid additionally makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, leading to a much cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.
– And finally, where the Nectar has virtually no bounce, the Purple has an enormous quantity of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
While both the Casper and Nectar are constructed completely of foam, they really have incredibly divergent feels, with the latter featuring considerably more sinkage than the former.
– Additionally, one of the standout attributes of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which brings targeted relief to the shoulders and hips.
– This also means the Casper has a more balanced texture than the Nectar, endearing it to a larger selection of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike most other memory foam mattresses that generally sleep a little hot, the Nectar provides a high level of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired together with the infused cover keeps it cool, while providing maximum comfort.
Because the Nectar is a high density foam, some may find it a little warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.
Overall, our research did show that the Nectar is most definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market nowadays.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh from the box, the mattress will have a fairly strong odor for the first two days. After this, the smell starts to fade, and within a week is totally gone.
So, if the smell is something that actually bothers you, then I suggest maybe not sleeping on it the first two days.Nectar Mattress Rotation

Is the Nectar Mattress Right For You?
Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the bed, I am going to give you a few recommendations and some of the very common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I would suggest the Nectar for everyone who desires that classic memory foam texture, deep body contouring and all.
– More specifically, I would say this mattress might be a real winner for side sleepers, that will benefit from its cushiony pressure relief in the shoulders and hips.
– Considering its excellent motion transfer and edge support results, I’d also say the Nectar could be a solid pick for couples.
– While a lot of people will dig the thick layers of memory foam in this mattress, I would say that stomach sleepers may find that it sends their buttocks out of alignment with their shoulders.
– It also has virtually no rebound, which could be a dealbreaker for all those sleepers looking for some buoyant support.
