Nectar Sleep sells a memory foam mattress using better quality foam materials relative to its competitors at a much lower cost. Do not be tricked into thinking the Nectar mattress isn’t of the same quality as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Nectar Mattress Sleeps Hot
Using gel memory foam built into the bottom of the cover and a layer of memory foam under, the Nectar contours well, but does not have the exact same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam and the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than many memory foam mattresses.
A support core consisting of high-density polyfoam is built to withstand the test of time. Given its makeup, we expect the Nectar to survive at least 7-8 years, making it a durable option.
The Nectar is difficult to beat at this price, so if you’re searching for an affordable bed built with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Nectar Mattress Sleeps Hot
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has used a clever strategy of cheeky marketing and focused product development to evolve into one of the biggest players in the online bed-in-a-box market. Nectar Mattress Sleeps Hot
Considering its prevalence, the brand is frequently compared to Casper and Purple, two giants in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all 3 mattresses have considerably different feels (which I will dissect in detail later on in this review), they do benefit from a similar amount of brand recognition and notoriety on sites likes ours and Reddit.
It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is less expensive than either the Casper or the Purple, both of which come in at about $1,000.

Construction Nectar Mattress Sleeps Hot
Let’s begin with the Nectar mattress review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress composed of three different layers which pile up to an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is the humungous 4″ of memory foam up top, which results in a considerable amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how all this comes together, let us dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is made up of of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco friendly substance famous for its softness and breathability. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which provides the sleeper with some immediate comfort. The combo of the gel infusion and Tencel fibers make for an ultra-cool coating which will help regulate temperatures during the night.
Comfort Layer – Right below the cover, you will encounter 3″ of memory foam. This material has a remarkably slow response to stress, allowing the sleeper to really sink in for some satisfying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you are most likely to feel as though you are sleeping more”in” the bed than”on top” of it, which could be a nice feel for side sleepers in need of cushiony support in the shoulders and hips.
Transition Layer – Up next you are going to find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a marginally quicker reaction to pressure compared to the foams above it. This section is supposed to ease the sleeper into the firmer foundation below, helping extend the contouring of the comfort layer deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we have got 6 inches of high-density poly foam. This section provides the bed its firmness and contour, providing a firm foundation upon which the softer foams can react.
After taking a peek at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying some light hand pressure to the mattress and found I was immediately interacting with all the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the Nectar, with the gentle foams contouring round my palms. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the bed.
Since folks of different body types and sizes are going to feel firmness differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to check out the Nectar Sleep mattress. We all took a turn lying on the mattress, and gave it a personal evaluation, and then compiled them onto the graph below.
While feel is always likely to be a personal thing, our answers should give you with a good notion of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.
Although there was a little discrepancy with our answers, we did end on a mean firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs perfectly with the industry standard for moderate firmness.
I personally gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers gave a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Regardless of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the shape of my body, leading to some pretty awesome sinkage. While this translated into a softer rating for me, some sleepers could find memory foam to produce a firmer sense as their bodies gradually acclimate into its morphing contour.
Another important component of a new mattress’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to form while lying on top of it.
To help you picture where these pressure points might crop up, I put a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can find the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the gentle memory foam top layers contoured to my body and filled in the space in my thoracic region. Even though you might find memory foam to have an initially firm texture, once you give your body a couple of minutes to sink in, you’ll find that it’s actually quite giving. A trade off for this satisfying pressure relief is that I did find it somewhat difficult to maneuver around and change positions. Nectar Mattress Sleeps Hot
Edge Support – Testing out the edge support on this bed, I did detect some compression through the soft foam top layers. However, the high-density poly foam foundation did a good job of supporting my weight in this position, which allowed me to feel safe on the side of the bed.
Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers tend to favor softer mattresses which shape snuggly to the shoulders and buttocks, and the Nectar more than delivers on this front.
Stomach – Unfortunately, this comfort didn’t necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my stomach. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink from alignment with my shoulders, which made for a little tension along my spine. Overall, stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses, therefore I wasn’t overly surprised by this result.
Next, let’s take a look at motion transfer. This evaluation will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the bed to the other, which could be especially important for those of you who share their bed with a partner.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
FYI: Every drop is meant to symbolize a different movement you are likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are incredible motion transfer results! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to dampen movement across the structure, ensuring you will not be overly bothered by your mattress mate’s tossing and turning in the evening.
When buying a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying densities and sizes (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the bed and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Nectar Mattress Sleeps Hot
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly believed these results would be a bit more intense! As I moved around the Nectar, I was surprised by just how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it’s sort of surprising to find that the real measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the market. That being said, you’re still more likely to feel as though you are sleeping “in” the Nectar instead of “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we’ve broken down the specific, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let’s expand the scope and have a look at a few of its main rivals in the game. While each bed has unique features that make it a distinctive product in the market, it may be useful to contextualize these differences against other beds. Plus, who does not love a little cross-referencing prior to making a large purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Purple and Nectar is like comparing oranges and apples — both are great in their own right, but fundamentally distinct products.
– One of the most noticeable differences comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a really bouncy material that offers pressure relief without an excessive amount of body contouring.
– The hyper-elastic polymer grid also makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, leading to a much cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.
– And finally, wherein the Nectar has practically no bounce, the Purple has an enormous quantity of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
Although the Casper and Nectar are constructed completely of foam, they actually have incredibly divergent feels, with the latter featuring considerably more sinkage compared to the former.
– Also, one of the standout features of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which provides targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.
– This means the Casper has a more balanced feel than the Nectar, endearing it to a larger range of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike most other memory foam mattresses that generally sleep a little hot, the Nectar offers a high level of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired with the infused cover keeps the temperature cool, while giving maximum comfort.
Because the Nectar is a high density foam, some may find it a little warmer than a hybrid, coil, or latex foam mattress.
In general, our study did show that the Nectar is most definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market today.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh from the box, the mattress will have a fairly strong odor for the first two days. After this, the odor starts to fade, and within a week is completely gone.
So, if the odor is something which really bothers you, then I suggest maybe not sleeping on it the first two days.Nectar Mattress Sleeps Hot
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar can be sat right on a box spring. Or if you prefer, a platform or any other flat supportive surface. It can also be utilized with any adjustable bed frame, which can fit an 11 inch mattress.
You can also put the Nectar directly on the ground if that’s what you’d prefer to do. Just make sure there is not any water or moisture around.
What Is The Best Way To Take Care Of The Nectar?
The Nectar needs no flipping. But, it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice per year to prevent it from excessive sagging or from wearing down.
For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water with mild dish soap, to clean any dirt or stains. Always clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.

Is the Nectar Mattress Appropriate For You?
Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the bed, I want to give you a few recommendations and some of the very common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I would suggest the Nectar for everyone who wants that classic memory foam texture, deep body shaping and all.
– More importantly, I’d say this mattress could be a real winner for side sleepers, who will benefit from its cushiony pressure relief in the shoulders and hips.
– Considering its excellent motion transfer and edge support outcomes, I would also say the Nectar could be a good choice for couples.
– While a lot of folks will dig the thick layers of memory foam in this mattress, I’d say that stomach sleepers may find that it sends their buttocks out of alignment with their shoulders.
– It also has almost no bounce, which could be a dealbreaker for all those sleepers looking for buoyant support.
