Nectar Sleep sells a memory foam mattress using better quality foam materials relative to its competitors at a much lower cost. Don’t be tricked into believing the Nectar mattress isn’t of the same quality as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Nectar Mattress Smell
Using gel memory foam quilted into the bottom of the cover and a layer of memory foam beneath, the Nectar shapes well, but doesn’t have the exact same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam along with the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps considerably cooler than most memory foam models.
A support core consisting of high-density polyfoam is built to withstand the test of time. Given its construct, we project the Nectar to survive at least 7-8 years, which makes it a lasting choice.
The Nectar is hard to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for an affordable bed built with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Nectar Mattress Smell
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has used a smart strategy of cheeky marketing and concentrated product development to evolve into one of the greatest players in the online bed-in-a-box market. Nectar Mattress Smell
Considering its prevalence, the brand is frequently compared to Purple and Casper, two giants in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all 3 mattresses have substantially different feels (which I will dissect in full later on in this review), they do benefit from a similar amount of brand recognition and notoriety on sites likes ours and Reddit.
It’s worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is less expensive than either the Casper or even the Purple, each of which come in at about $1,000.

Construction Nectar Mattress Smell
Let’s get started with the Nectar mattress review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress composed of three distinct layers that stack up to an 11″ profile. The most notable aspect of the Nectar’s construction is the humungous 4″ of memory foam up top, which results in a considerable amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how all this comes together, let us dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is comprised of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco friendly material famous for its softness and breathability. Additionally, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which offers the sleeper with some instant relaxation. The combo of the gel infusion and Tencel fibers make for an ultra-cool layer that’ll help regulate temperatures throughout the night.
Comfort Layer – Directly below the cover, you’ll encounter 3″ of memory foam. This material has a remarkably slow reaction to stress, allowing the sleeper to really sink in for some satisfying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you are likely to feel as though you’re sleeping more”in” the bed than”on top” of it, which could be a pleasant feel for side sleepers needing cushiony support at the shoulders and hips.
Transition Layer – Up next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a marginally quicker reaction to pressure compared to the foams above it. This section is meant to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer foundation under, helping to extend the shaping of the comfort layer deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we have got 6″ of high-density poly foam. This section provides the bed its stability and shape, providing a firm foundation upon which the softer foams will respond.
After having a look at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying some light hand pressure into the mattress and found that I was immediately interacting with all the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the Nectar, with all the gentle foams contouring round my palms. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the bed.
Since people of different body types and sizes will feel stability differently, I decided to bring in three other testers to check out the Nectar Sleep mattress. All of us took a turn lying on the bed, and gave it a personal evaluation, then compiled them on the graph below.
While feel is always going to be a personal thing, our answers should give you with a good notion of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.
Though there was a little discrepancy with our answers, we did end on a mean firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs perfectly with the industry standard for moderate firmness.
I personally gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers produced a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Regardless of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the curves of my body, resulting in some pretty awesome sinkage. While this translated into a softer rating for mepersonally, some sleepers may find memory foam to produce a firmer feel as their bodies slowly acclimate into its morphing contour.
Another important component of a new mattress’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to shape while lying on top of it.
To help you picture where these pressure points might crop up, I placed a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can find the results on the chart below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the soft memory foam top layers shaped to my body and filled in the space at my lumbar region. While you may find memory foam to possess an initially firm feel, as soon as you give your body a few minutes to sink through it, you’ll discover that it’s actually quite giving. A trade off to this gratifying pressure relief is that I did find it a bit difficult to move around and change positions. Nectar Mattress Smell
Edge Support – Testing out the edge support on this mattress, I did detect some compression through the soft foam top layers. However, the high-density poly foam foundation did a good job of supporting my weight in this position, which allowed me to feel safe on the side of the mattress.
Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel great pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers have a tendency to favor softer mattresses which contour snuggly to the shoulders and hips, and the Nectar more than delivers on that front.
Stomach – Regrettably, this comfort did not necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my stomach. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink out of alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my spine. Overall, stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses, so I was not too surprised by this outcome.
Up next, let us take a look at motion transfer. This test will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the bed to the other, which might be especially critical for those of you who share their bed with a spouse.
To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
FYI: Each drop is meant to symbolize a different movement you’re likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are amazing motion transfer outcomes! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to soften movement throughout the structure, ensuring you will not be overly bothered by your mattress partner’s tossing and turning in the night.
When purchasing a new bed, the majority of men and women want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the bed or lying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying densities and sizes (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to simulate different body components and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Nectar Mattress Smell
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly thought these results would be a little more extreme! As I moved around the Nectar, I was surprised by just how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is sort of surprising to see that the actual measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the market. That said, you are still more likely to feel like you are sleeping “in” the Nectar as opposed to “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we have broken down the particular, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let’s widen the scope and take a peek at some of its biggest competitors in the game. While every bed has unique features which make it a different product in the market, it can be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other beds. Plus, who doesn’t love a tiny cross-referencing before making a large purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing oranges and apples — both are great in their own right, but fundamentally distinct products.
– Among the most noticeable differences comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a bouncy material that offers pressure relief without too much body contouring.
– The hyper-elastic polymer grid also makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, resulting in a far cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.
– And finally, wherein the Nectar has virtually no bounce, the Purple has an enormous quantity of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
While both the Casper and Nectar are built completely of foam, they actually have incredibly divergent feels, with the latter featuring much more sinkage than the former.
– Additionally, one of the standout features of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which provides targeted relief to the shoulders and hips.
– This means that the Casper has a more balanced feel compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a larger range of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike most other memory foam mattresses that generally sleep a bit warm, the Nectar provides a high amount of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired with the infused cover keeps the temperature cool, while providing maximum comfort.
With the Nectar being a high density foam, some could find it somewhat warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.
Overall, our study did reveal that the Nectar is most definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market today.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh from the box, the mattress will have a fairly powerful odor for the first 2 days. After this, the smell starts to fade, and in just a week is totally gone.
So, if the odor is something which actually bothers you, then I suggest maybe not sleeping on it the first two days.Nectar Mattress Smell
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar mattress could be sat right on a box spring. Or if you want, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. It can also be utilized with almost any adjustable bed frame, that can fit an 11 inch mattress.
You can even use the Nectar right on the floor if that’s what you’d prefer to do. Just make sure there is not any moisture or water around.
What Is The Best Way To Take Care Of Your Nectar?
The Nectar needs no flipping. However, it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly one or two times a year to stop it from wearing down or from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water along mild dish soap, to clean any dirt or stains. Always wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.

Is the Nectar Mattress Appropriate For You?
Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the mattress, I want to give you a few recommendations and some of the most common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I’d recommend the Nectar for everyone who desires that classic memory foam texture, deep body contouring and all.
– More specifically, I’d say this mattress might be a real winner for side sleepers, who will gain from its cushiony pressure relief at the shoulders and buttocks.
– Considering its excellent motion transfer and edge support outcomes, I would also say the Nectar might be a solid choice for couples.
– While a lot of folks will dig the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I’d say that tummy sleepers may find that it pushes their buttocks out of alignment with their shoulders.
– It also has almost no bounce, which could be a dealbreaker for all those sleepers in search of some buoyant support.
