Nectar Sleep sells a memory foam mattress with better quality foam materials relative to its competitors at a far lower price. Do not be tricked into thinking the Nectar mattress is not of similar caliber as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Nectar Twin Bed

Using gel memory foam built into the base of the cover and a layer of memory foam under, the Nectar shapes well, but doesn’t have the exact same hug often associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam and the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than many memory foam mattresses.

A support core consisting of high-density polyfoam is made to withstand the test of time. Given its construct, we project the Nectar to survive at least 7-8 years, which makes it a durable option.

The Nectar is difficult to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for an affordable bed built with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Nectar Twin Bed

Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has employed a clever strategy of cheeky advertising and focused product development to evolve into one of the greatest players in the online bed-in-a-box market. Nectar Twin Bed

Considering its popularity, the brand is frequently compared to Casper and Purple, two giants in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress market. Though all 3 mattresses have considerably distinct feels (which I’ll dissect in full later on in this review), they do gain from a similar amount of brand recognition and notoriety on sites likes ours and Reddit.

It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far more affordable than either the Casper or the Purple, each of which come in at roughly $1,000.

Construction Nectar Twin Bed

Let us get started with the Nectar mattress review. As I mentioned above, this is an all-foam mattress composed of three distinct layers that stack as much as an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is its humungous 4″ of memory foam up top, which results in a considerable amount of body contouring and sinkage.

To see how all this comes together, let us dive into the mattress!

Nectar Mattress Layers

Cover – The cover is made up of of both cotton and Tencel,

an eco friendly material famous for its breathability and softness. Additionally, there’s an inch of gel memory foam built into the cover, which provides the sleeper with some immediate comfort. The combination of the gel infusion and Tencel fibers make for an ultra-cool layer that’ll help regulate temperatures throughout the evening.

Comfort Layer – Right under the cover, you’ll find 3″ of memory foam. This material has an incredibly slow response to stress, letting the sleeper to really sink in for some gratifying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you’re likely to feel like you are sleeping more”in” the mattress compared to”on top” of it, which could be a nice feel for side sleepers needing cushiony support at the shoulders and buttocks.

Transition Layer – Up next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a slightly quicker reaction to pressure compared to the foams above it. This section is meant to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer base below, helping to extend the shaping of the comfort layer deeper into the mattress.

Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we’ve got 6″ of high-density poly foam. This section gives the bed its stability and contour, offering a firm foundation upon which the softer foams can react.

Firmness

After having a look at the construction of the Nectar, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting some light hand pressure to the mattress and discovered that I was immediately interacting with all the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the Nectar, with all the gentle foams contouring around my palms. Pushing in further, I experienced deeper sinkage into the mattress.

Since folks of different body types and sizes will feel firmness differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to check out the Nectar Sleep mattress. We all took a turn lying on the bed, and gave it a personal rating, and then compiled them onto the graph below.

nectar-firmness-chart

While feel is always likely to be a personal thing, our answers should provide you with a good notion of the firmness range you may expect from the mattress.

Nectar Twin Bed

Although there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did finish on an average firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the industry standard for moderate firmness.

I personally gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers produced a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Regardless of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the material contouring to the shape of my body, resulting in some pretty awesome sinkage. While this translated to a softer rating for me, some sleepers may find memory foam to produce a firmer sense as their bodies gradually acclimate to its morphing shape.

Pressure Map

Another important part of a new mattress’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are most likely to shape while lying on top of it.

To help you visualize where these pressure points may arise, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

nectar-pressure-map

Back – Lying on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the gentle memory foam top layers contoured into my body and filled in the space at my lumbar region. Even though you might find memory foam to have an initially firm texture, as soon as you give your body a few minutes to sink through it, you’ll discover that it’s actually quite giving. A trade off to this gratifying pressure relief is that I did find it somewhat hard to maneuver around and change positions. Nectar Twin Bed

Edge Support – Testing out the edge support of this bed, I did detect some compression through the soft foam top layers. But, the high-density poly foam foundation did a fantastic job of supporting my weight in this position, which enabled me to feel secure on the side of the Nectar.

Side – Turning onto my side, I continued to feel great pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers tend to prefer softer mattresses which shape snuggly into the shoulders and hips, and the Nectar more than delivers on that front.

Stomach – Regrettably, this comfort did not totally carry over when I rolled onto my belly. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink out of alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my spine. Overall, stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses, so I was not overly surprised by this outcome.

Motion Transfer

Next, let us take a look at motion transfer. This test will demonstrate the amount of disturbance detectable from one side of the mattress to the other, which might be particularly critical for those who share their bed with a partner.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

FYI: Every drop is intended to signify a different movement you are likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).

nectar-motion-transfer

These are amazing motion transfer results! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to soften movement throughout the structure, making sure that you won’t be overly bothered by your bed partner’s tossing and turning in the evening.

Sinkage Test

When buying a new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compacted the top.

The variations in size, density and weight are meant to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers.

nectar-sinkage

6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Nectar Twin Bed

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.

I honestly believed these results would be a little more extreme! As I rolled around the Nectar, I was struck by how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is kind of surprising to see that the real measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the marketplace. That being said, you’re still more likely to feel as though you are sleeping “in” the Nectar as opposed to “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition

Now that we have broken down the particular, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let’s widen the scope and have a peek at a few of its main competitors in the game. While each bed has unique characteristics which make it a distinctive product in the market, it may be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other mattresses. Plus, who does not love a little cross-referencing before making a big purchase?

Nectar vs Purple

Comparing Purple and Nectar is like comparing oranges and apples — both are lovely in their own right, but fundamentally different goods.

– One of the most noticeable distinctions comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a bouncy material that offers pressure relief without too much body contouring.

– The hyper-elastic polymer grid additionally makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, resulting in a much cooler sleeping experience than the Nectar.

– And finally, wherein the Nectar has virtually no bounce, the Purple has a tremendous quantity of buoyant support.

Nectar vs Casper

While both the Casper and Nectar are built completely of foam, they actually have incredibly divergent feels, with the latter featuring much more sinkage than the former.

– Additionally, one of the standout attributes of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which brings targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.

– This also means the Casper has a more balanced feel compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a wider selection of sleepers.

Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar

Does It Sleep Hot?

Unlike most other memory foam mattresses that tend to sleep a little hot, the Nectar offers a high amount of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired with the infused cover keeps it cool, while providing maximum comfort.

Because the Nectar is a high density foam, some may find it a little warmer than a hybrid, coil, or latex foam mattress.

In general, our research did show that the Nectar is most definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses in the marketplace today.

Does It Have Any Smell?

Fresh from the box, the mattress is going to have a fairly powerful odor for the first two days. But after, the smell starts to fade, and in just a week is completely gone.

So, if the odor is something that really bothers you, I suggest maybe not sleeping on it the first couple days.Nectar Twin Bed

Does It Require A Foundation?

The Nectar mattress can be sat directly on a box spring. Or if you prefer, a platform or any other flat supportive surface. It can also be utilized with any adjustable bed frame, which can fit an 11′ mattress.

You can also put the Nectar directly on the floor if that is what you’d like to do. Just be certain that there isn’t any water or moisture around.

What Is The Best Way To Care For Your Nectar?

The Nectar requires no flipping. But, it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly one or two times a year to prevent it from excessive sagging or from wearing down.

For regular cleaning, it is advised to use cool water along mild dish soap, to clean any stains or dirt. Always clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.

How Durable Is The Nectar Mattress?

Compared to other foam mattresses, the Nectar according to our research has a long lifespan.

The Nectar is manufactured with high quality materials and matches  all industry standards. According to our study, the Nectar scores an 80 percent owner satisfaction rating and continues to grow in popularity today.

Is the Nectar Mattress Right For You?

Now that we’ve taken a closer look at the bed, I want to give you a few recommendations and some of the most common Nectar complaints:

Recommendations

– First and foremost, I would suggest the Nectar for everyone who wants that classic memory foam texture, deep body contouring and all.

– More specifically, I’d say this mattress might be a real winner for side sleepers, who will benefit from its cushiony pressure relief at the shoulders and buttocks.

– Considering its superb motion transfer and edge support outcomes, I’d also say the Nectar might be a good pick for couples.

Nectar Complaints

– While a lot of people will dig the thick layers of memory foam in this mattress, I’d say that stomach sleepers may find that it pushes their hips out of alignment with their shoulders.

– It also has virtually no rebound, which might be a dealbreaker for all those sleepers in search of buoyant support.
