Nectar Sleep offers a memory foam mattress using better quality foam materials relative to its competitors at a much lower price. Do not be fooled into believing the Nectar mattress is not of similar quality as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. New Memory Foam Mattress Too Hard

Using gel memory foam quilted into the base of the cover and a layer of memory foam under, the Nectar contours well, but doesn’t have the same hug frequently associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam along with the absence of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps considerably cooler than most memory foam mattresses.

A support core composed of high-density polyfoam is made to withstand the test of time. Given its construct, we project the Nectar to survive at least 7-8 years, making it a durable option.

The Nectar is hard to beat at this price, so if you’re looking for an affordable bed built with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot New Memory Foam Mattress Too Hard

Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has used a smart strategy of cheeky advertising and focused product development to evolve into one of the biggest players in the online bed-in-a-box marketplace. New Memory Foam Mattress Too Hard

Considering its prevalence, the brand is frequently compared to Casper and Purple, two giants in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress world. Though all 3 mattresses have considerably different feels (which I’ll dissect in full later in this review), they do gain from a similar amount of name recognition and notoriety on sites likes ours and Reddit.

It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is less expensive than the Casper or even the Purple, both of which come in at about $1,000.

Construction New Memory Foam Mattress Too Hard

Let’s get started with the Nectar mattress review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress composed of three distinct layers that stack as much as an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is the humungous 4″ of memory foam on top, which results in a considerable amount of body contouring and sinkage.

To see how all this comes together, let us dive into the mattress!

Nectar Mattress Layers

Cover – The cover is comprised of both cotton and Tencel,

an eco-friendly material famous for its breathability and softness. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam built into the cover, which provides the sleeper with some instant comfort. The combination of the Tencel fibers and gel infusion make for an ultra-cool coating which will help regulate temperatures during the evening.

Comfort Layer – Directly below the cover, you’ll find 3″ of memory foam. This material has an incredibly slow response to stress, allowing the sleeper to really sink in for some satisfying pressure relief. As the foam shapes to the curves of your body, you’re most likely to feel like you’re sleeping more”in” the bed than”on top” of it, which could be a nice feel for side sleepers needing cushiony support at the shoulders and buttocks.

Transition Layer – Up next you are going to find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a slightly quicker reaction to pressure compared to the foams above it. This section is supposed to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer base under, helping extend the shaping of the comfort layer deeper into the mattress.

Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we’ve got 6″ of high-density poly foam. This section provides the mattress its stability and contour, providing a firm foundation upon which the softer foams can respond.

Firmness

After taking a look at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting some light hand pressure to the mattress and discovered I was immediately interacting with the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the Nectar, with the gentle foams contouring round my fingers. Pushing in further, I experienced deeper sinkage into the bed.

Since people of different body types and sizes will feel stability differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to check out the Nectar Sleep mattress. All of us took turns lying on the bed, and gave it a personal evaluation, and then compiled them onto the graph below.

nectar-firmness-chart

While feel is always likely to be a personal thing, our responses should give you with a good notion of the firmness range you may expect from the mattress.

New Memory Foam Mattress Too Hard

Although there was a little discrepancy with our answers, we did finish on a mean firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the industry standard for moderate firmness.

Personally, I gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers produced a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Regardless of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the curves of my body, leading to some pretty awesome sinkage. While this translated into a softer rating for mepersonally, some sleepers may find memory foam to provide a firmer feel as their bodies slowly acclimate to its morphing contour.

Pressure Map

Another important component of a new bed’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are most likely to shape while lying on top of it.

To help you picture where these pressure points may crop up, I placed a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can find the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

nectar-pressure-map

Back – Lying on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the soft memory foam top layers contoured into my body and filled in the space in my thoracic region. Even though you may find memory foam to have an initially firm feel, as soon as you give your body a few minutes to sink through it, you will discover that it’s actually quite giving. A trade off to this satisfying pressure relief is that I did find it somewhat difficult to maneuver around and change positions. New Memory Foam Mattress Too Hard

Edge Support – Testing the edge support of this bed, I did discover some compression in the soft foam top layers. But, the high-density poly foam foundation did a fantastic job of supporting my weight in this position, which allowed me to feel safe on the side of the mattress.

Side – Turning onto my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers have a tendency to favor softer mattresses which contour snuggly to the shoulders and buttocks, and the Nectar more than delivers on this front.

Stomach – Unfortunately, this comfort did not necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my stomach. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink out of alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my spine. In general, stomach sleepers usually opt for firmer mattresses, therefore I was not overly surprised by this outcome.

Motion Transfer

Next, let us take a look at motion transfer. This test will demonstrate the quantity of disturbance detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other, which could be particularly important for those of you who share their bed with a partner.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

FYI: Every drop is intended to symbolize a different movement you are most likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).

nectar-motion-transfer

These are amazing motion transfer outcomes! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to dampen movement across the structure, making sure that you will not be too bothered by your mattress partner’s tossing and turning in the night.

Sinkage Test

When purchasing a new bed, the majority of people wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of different densities and sizes (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the bed and measured how much they compacted the top.

The variations in size, density and weight are meant to mimic different body components and different sized sleepers.

nectar-sinkage

6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. New Memory Foam Mattress Too Hard

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.

I honestly believed these results would be a bit more intense! As I rolled around the Nectar, I was struck by how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is kind of surprising to find that the actual measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the marketplace. That said, you are still more likely to feel as though you are sleeping “in” the Nectar as opposed to “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition

Now that we have broken down the particular, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let us expand the scope and take a peek at a few of its biggest competitors in the game. While every mattress has unique characteristics which make it a distinctive product in the space, it may be useful to contextualize these differences against other beds. Plus, who does not love a little cross-referencing before making a big purchase?

Nectar vs Purple

Comparing Purple and Nectar is like comparing oranges and apples — both are lovely in their own right, but inherently different products.

– One of the most noticeable distinctions comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a bouncy material that provides pressure relief without too much body contouring.

– The hyper-elastic polymer grid also makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, resulting in a far cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.

– And lastly, wherein the Nectar has practically no bounce, the Purple has an enormous quantity of buoyant support.

Nectar vs Casper

While both the Casper and Nectar are built entirely of foam, they really have incredibly divergent feels, with the latter featuring much more sinkage than the former.

– Also, one of the standout attributes of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which provides targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.

– This also means the Casper has a more balanced texture compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a larger range of sleepers.

Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar

Does It Sleep Hot?

Unlike most other memory foam mattresses that generally sleep a little warm, the Nectar offers a high amount of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired with the infused cover keeps the temperature cool, while giving maximum comfort.

Because the Nectar is a high density foam, some could find it somewhat warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.

Overall, our study did reveal that the Nectar is most definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market nowadays.

Does It Have Any Smell?

Fresh out of the box, the mattress will have a fairly strong odor for the first two days. After this, the smell starts to fade, and in just a week is completely gone.

So, if the smell is something which actually bothers you, I suggest maybe not sleeping on it for the first two days.New Memory Foam Mattress Too Hard

Does It Require A Foundation?

The Nectar mattress could be sat right on a box spring. Or if you prefer, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. In addition, it can be used with any adjustable bed frame, that can fit an 11 inch mattress.

You can also use the Nectar directly on the floor if that is what you would prefer to do. Just make sure there is not any water or moisture around.

What Is The Best Way To Take Care Of The Nectar?

The Nectar requires no flipping. But, it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to stop it from wearing down or from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water with mild dish detergent, to clean any dirt or stains. Always wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.

How Durable Is The Nectar Mattress?

Compared to other foam mattresses, the Nectar based on our research has a long lifespan.

The Nectar is manufactured with high quality materials and matches  all industry standards. According to our study, the Nectar scores an 80% owner satisfaction rating and continues to increase in popularity now.

How is Nectar’s Warranty?

Nectar provides you with their exceptional “Forever Warranty”

This unique warranty guarantees Nectar materials, construction, quality, and durability to the buying party for life.

Since the business stands firmly behind their mattress, they’re convinced that buyers will find the Nectar to be the only mattress they will ever want or desire.

After the first 5 years, repairs and replacements will be honored for a one time transportation charge of $100. If a defect is found, the $100 will be waived.

Is the Nectar Mattress Appropriate For You?

Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the mattress, I want to give you a few recommendations and some of the very common Nectar complaints:

Recommendations

– First and foremost, I’d suggest the Nectar for everyone who wants that classic memory foam texture, deep body contouring and all.

– More importantly, I would say this mattress might be a real winner for side sleepers, that will benefit from its cushiony pressure relief in the shoulders and hips.

– Considering its superb motion transfer and edge support outcomes, I’d also say the Nectar might be a good pick for couples.

Nectar Complaints

– While a lot of folks will enjoy the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I would say that tummy sleepers may find that it pushes their buttocks out of alignment with their shoulders.

– It also has almost no bounce, which could be a dealbreaker for all those sleepers looking for some buoyant support.
