Nectar Sleep offers a memory foam mattress with better quality foam materials relative to its rivals at a far lower price. Do not be tricked into thinking the Nectar mattress is not of similar caliber as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Should Memory Foam Mattresses Be Rotated
Using gel memory foam built into the bottom of the cover and a layer of memory foam under, the Nectar shapes well, but doesn’t have the exact same hug frequently associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam along with the lack of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps considerably cooler than most memory foam models.
A support core consisting of high-density polyfoam is made to withstand the test of time. Given its makeup, we project the Nectar to last at least 7-8 years, which makes it a lasting option.
The Nectar is hard to beat at this price, so if you’re searching for a reasonable mattress constructed with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Should Memory Foam Mattresses Be Rotated
Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has employed a smart strategy of cheeky advertising and focused product development to evolve into one of the biggest players in the online bed-in-a-box market. Should Memory Foam Mattresses Be Rotated
Considering its popularity, the brand is often compared to Purple and Casper, two giants in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress market. Though all 3 mattresses have substantially different feels (which I will dissect in full later in this review), they do gain from a similar amount of name recognition and notoriety on websites likes ours and Reddit.
It’s worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far less expensive than either the Casper or the Purple, both of which come in at about $1,000.

Construction Should Memory Foam Mattresses Be Rotated
Let’s get started with the Nectar mattress review. As I mentioned above, this is an all-foam mattress made up of three distinct layers which pile as much as an 11″ profile. The most notable aspect of the Nectar’s construction is the humungous 4″ of memory foam up top, which leads to a considerable amount of body contouring and sinkage.
To see how all this comes together, let’s dive into the mattress!
Nectar Mattress Layers
Cover – The cover is comprised of both cotton and Tencel,
an eco friendly substance famous for its softness and breathability. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which provides the sleeper with some immediate comfort. The combination of the gel infusion and Tencel fibers make for an ultra-cool coating which will help regulate temperatures throughout the night.
Comfort Layer – Right below the cover, you will encounter 3″ of memory foam. This material has an incredibly slow reaction to pressure, letting the sleeper to really sink in for some gratifying pressure relief. As the foam contours to the curves of your body, you’re most likely to feel as though you’re sleeping more”in” the bed compared to”on top” of it, which could be a nice feel for side sleepers needing cushiony support at the shoulders and buttocks.
Transition Layer – Up next you are going to find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a marginally quicker response to pressure compared to the foams above it. This section is meant to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer foundation below, helping extend the contouring of the comfort layer even deeper into the mattress.
Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we have got 6″ of high-density poly foam. This section gives the mattress its stability and shape, offering a firm foundation upon which the softer foams will react.
After having a look at the construction of the Nectar, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting some light hand pressure to the mattress and found that I was immediately interacting with the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the Nectar, with the gentle foams contouring round my fingers. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the mattress.
Since people of different body types and sizes will feel firmness differently, I made a decision to bring in three other testers to check out the Nectar Sleep mattress. We all took turns lying on the mattress, and gave it a personal evaluation, then compiled them onto the graph below.
While texture is always likely to be a personal thing, our responses should give you with a good idea of the firmness range you may expect from the bed.
Although there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did end on a mean firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the market standard for medium firmness.
I personally gave the Nectar a 6 because I found its thick memory foam layers produced a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Regardless of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the mattress contouring to the shape of my body, leading to some pretty awesome sinkage. While this translated into a softer rating for mepersonally, some sleepers could find memory foam to produce a firmer sense as their bodies slowly acclimate to its morphing shape.
Another important component of a new mattress’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to form while lying on top of it.
To help you picture where these pressure points may crop up, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Lying on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the soft memory foam top layers shaped to my entire body and filled in the space in my thoracic region. Even though you might find memory foam to possess an initially firm feel, as soon as you give your body a few minutes to sink through it, you’ll discover that it’s actually rather giving. A trade off for this gratifying pressure relief is that I did find it somewhat difficult to maneuver around and change positions. Should Memory Foam Mattresses Be Rotated
Edge Support – Testing out the edge support of this bed, I did discover some compression through the soft foam top layers. However, the high-density poly foam foundation did a good job of supporting my weight in this position, which allowed me to feel safe on the side of the bed.
Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers tend to favor softer mattresses that contour snuggly into the shoulders and buttocks, and the Nectar more than delivers on this front.
Stomach – Unfortunately, this comfort didn’t necessarily carry over when I rolled onto my belly. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink out of alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my spine. In general, stomach sleepers typically opt for firmer mattresses, so I wasn’t too surprised by this result.
Next, let us take a look at motion transfer. This evaluation will demonstrate the quantity of disturbance detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other, which could be particularly critical for those of you who share their bed with a partner.
To demonstrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
FYI: Every drop is meant to symbolize a different movement you are most likely to encounter in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).
These are amazing motion transfer outcomes! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to dampen movement across the structure, making sure that you won’t be overly bothered by your bed partner’s tossing and turning in the night.
When purchasing a new bed, most people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of different densities and sizes (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to mimic different body components and different sized sleepers.
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Should Memory Foam Mattresses Be Rotated
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.
I honestly thought these results would be a little more intense! As I moved around the Nectar, I was surprised by just how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it’s sort of surprising to see that the real measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the market. That said, you’re still more likely to feel like you are sleeping “in” the Nectar instead of “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition
Now that we have broken down the particular, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let’s expand the scope and take a peek at a few of its main competitors in the game. While every bed has unique characteristics that make it a different product in the market, it may be useful to contextualize these distinctions against other mattresses. Plus, who does not love a tiny cross-referencing before making a big purchase?
Nectar vs Purple
Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing apples and oranges — both are great in their own right, but fundamentally distinct goods.
– One of the very noticeable differences comes from the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a really bouncy material that provides pressure relief without too much body contouring.
– The hyper-elastic polymer grid also makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, leading to a far cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.
– And lastly, wherein the Nectar has practically no bounce, the Purple has a tremendous amount of buoyant support.
Nectar vs Casper
Although the Casper and Nectar are built completely of foam, they actually have unbelievably divergent feels, with the latter featuring much more sinkage than the former.
– Also, one of the standout features of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which provides targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.
– This means that the Casper has a more balanced feel compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a larger selection of sleepers.
Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar
Does It Sleep Hot?
Unlike the majority of other memory foam mattresses that generally sleep a bit hot, the Nectar provides a high amount of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired together with the infused cover keeps the temperature cool, while providing maximum comfort.
With the Nectar being a high density foam, some may find it somewhat warmer than a hybrid, coil, or latex foam mattress.
In general, our study did show that the Nectar is most definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses on the market nowadays.
Does It Have Any Smell?
Fresh from the box, the mattress will have a fairly powerful odor for the first 2 days. After this, the odor starts to fade, and in just a week is completely gone.
So, if the odor is something that actually bothers you, then I suggest maybe not sleeping on it the first couple days.Should Memory Foam Mattresses Be Rotated
Does It Require A Foundation?
The Nectar mattress could be sat right on a box spring. Or if you prefer, a platform or almost any other flat supportive surface. It can also be used with any adjustable bed frame, which can fit an 11 inch mattress.
You can also use the Nectar right on the ground if that is what you would prefer to do. Just be certain there is not any water or moisture around.
What’s The Best Way To Care For The Nectar?
The Nectar needs no flipping. However, it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps one or two times per year to prevent it from wearing down or from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water with mild dish soap, to clean any stains or dirt. Always wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
How Durable Is The Nectar Mattress?

Is the Nectar Mattress Appropriate For You?
Now that we’ve taken a closer look at the bed, I want to provide you with a few recommendations and some of the most common Nectar complaints:
– First and foremost, I’d suggest the Nectar for anyone who desires that classic memory foam feel, deep body shaping and all.
– More importantly, I would say this mattress might be a real winner for side sleepers, that will gain from its cushiony pressure relief in the shoulders and buttocks.
– Considering its superb motion transfer and edge support results, I’d also say the Nectar could be a good choice for couples.
– While a lot of folks will dig the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I’d say that tummy sleepers may find that it sends their buttocks out of alignment with their shoulders.
– It also has virtually no rebound, which could be a dealbreaker for those sleepers looking for some buoyant support.
