Nectar Sleep sells a memory foam mattress using better quality foam materials relative to its competitors at a much lower price. Don’t be fooled into believing the Nectar mattress isn’t of the same quality as the Casper or Leesa — it very much is. Sinking Into Memory Foam Mattress

Having gel memory foam quilted into the base of the cover and also a layer of memory foam beneath, the Nectar contours well, but doesn’t have the exact same hug frequently associated with memory foam beds. Both the gel memory foam and the absence of sink-in feel mean the Nectar sleeps significantly cooler than most memory foam models.

A support core consisting of high-density polyfoam is built to withstand the test of time. Given its makeup, we project the Nectar to survive at least 7-8 years, making it a durable choice.

The Nectar is difficult to beat at this price, so if you’re searching for a reasonable bed built with quality materials, your search can end here.

Brand Snapshot Sinking Into Memory Foam Mattress

Since its founding, Nectar Sleep has used a smart strategy of cheeky advertising and focused product development to evolve into one of the greatest competitors in the online bed-in-a-box market. Sinking Into Memory Foam Mattress

Considering its prevalence, the brand is often compared to Purple and Casper, two behemoths in the Direct-to-Consumer mattress market. Though all three mattresses have considerably different feels (which I will dissect in full later in this review), they do gain from a similar amount of brand recognition and notoriety on sites likes ours and Reddit.

It is worth noting that at $699 for a Queen, the Nectar is far more affordable than either the Casper or the Purple, both of which come in at roughly $1,000.

Construction Sinking Into Memory Foam Mattress

Let us get started with the Nectar bed review. As I mentioned previously, this is an all-foam mattress made up of three different layers that pile as much as an 11″ profile. The most notable component of the Nectar’s construction is the whopping 4″ of memory foam on top, which leads to a significant amount of body contouring and sinkage.

To see how this comes together, let’s dive into the mattress!

Nectar Mattress Layers

Cover – The cover is made up of of both cotton and Tencel,

an eco-friendly substance famous for its softness and breathability. Furthermore, there’s an inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover, which offers the sleeper with some instant comfort. The combination of the Tencel fibers and gel infusion make for an ultra-cool coating which will help regulate temperatures throughout the evening.

Comfort Layer – Directly below the cover, you will find 3″ of memory foam. This material has a remarkably slow response to stress, letting the sleeper to really sink in for some satisfying pressure relief. As the foam shapes to the curves of your body, you are most likely to feel like you are sleeping more”in” the bed compared to”on top” of it, which could be a pleasant feel for side sleepers in need of cushiony support at the shoulders and hips.

Transition Layer – Up next you’ll find a transitional layer of memory foam, which has a slightly quicker reaction to pressure than the foams over it. This section is meant to alleviate the sleeper into the firmer base below, helping to extend the shaping of the comfort layer even deeper into the mattress.

Foundation Layer – Rounding out the construction we’ve got 6 inches of high-density poly foam. This section provides the mattress its firmness and contour, providing a firm foundation upon which the softer foams will respond.

Firmness

After having a look at the construction of the Nectar, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting some light hand pressure to the mattress and found I was immediately interacting with all the thick layers of memory foam up top. I could feel myself sinking into the mattress, with the gentle foams contouring round my palms. Pushing in further, I experienced even deeper sinkage into the mattress.

Since people of different body types and sizes will feel firmness differently, I decided to bring in three other testers to have a look at the Nectar Sleep mattress. All of us took a turn lying on the mattress, and gave it a personal evaluation, then compiled them on the graph below.

nectar-firmness-chart

While feel is always likely to be a personal thing, our answers should give you with a good idea of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.

Sinking Into Memory Foam Mattress

Though there was a little discrepancy with our responses, we did finish on a mean firmness rating of 6.5, which syncs up perfectly with the market standard for medium firmness.

Personally, I gave the Nectar a 6 as I found its thick memory foam layers gave a gentle, pressure-relieving vibe. Irrespective of the position, I stretched out in, I could feel the material contouring to the shape of my body, leading to some pretty intense sinkage. While this translated into a softer rating for me, some sleepers could find memory foam to provide a firmer sense as their bodies gradually acclimate to its morphing contour.

Pressure Map

Another important component of a new mattress’s feel is pressure, or more specifically where pressure points are likely to shape while lying on top of it.

To help you visualize where these pressure points may crop up, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the results on the chart below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

nectar-pressure-map

Back – Lying on my back, I felt some great pressure relief as the soft memory foam top layers shaped to my body and filled in the space at my lumbar region. While you may find memory foam to possess an initially firm texture, as soon as you give your body a few minutes to sink through it, you will discover that it’s actually rather giving. A trade off for this gratifying pressure relief is that I did find it a bit hard to move around and change positions. Sinking Into Memory Foam Mattress

Edge Support – Testing the edge support of this bed, I did detect some compression in the soft foam top layers. However, the high-density poly foam base did a good job of supporting my weight in this position, which allowed me to feel secure on the side of the bed.

Side – Turning on my side, I continued to feel fantastic pressure relief from this bed. Side sleepers tend to prefer softer mattresses which contour snuggly into the shoulders and buttocks, and the Nectar more than delivers on this front.

Stomach – Regrettably, this comfort did not totally carry over when I rolled onto my belly. The thick layers of memory foam caused my hips to sink from alignment with my shoulders, which made for some tension along my spine. In general, stomach sleepers typically opt for firmer mattresses, so I wasn’t too surprised by this result.

Motion Transfer

Next, let’s take a look at motion transfer. This evaluation will demonstrate the quantity of disturbance detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other, which could be particularly critical for those of you who share their mattress with a partner.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

FYI: Each drop is meant to signify a different movement you’re most likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (4″) to getting out of bed (8″) all the way to full on jumping (12″).

nectar-motion-transfer

These are amazing motion transfer outcomes! The thick layers of memory foam up top work to dampen movement across the structure, ensuring that you won’t be overly bothered by your bed partner’s tossing and turning in the night.

Sinkage Test

When buying a new bed, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying”on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the bed and measured how much they compacted the top.

The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers.

nectar-sinkage

6 lb medicine ball: 1 inch of sinkage. Sinking Into Memory Foam Mattress

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 3.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 6 inches of sinkage.

I honestly believed these results would be a bit more extreme! As I rolled around the Nectar, I was surprised by how much my body sank into the memory foam top layers, so it is sort of surprising to see that the actual measurements are consistent with those of other all-foam mattresses on the marketplace. That being said, you’re still more likely to feel like you are sleeping “in” the Nectar instead of “on top” of it.

The Nectar Mattress vs The Competition

Now that we’ve broken down the specific, nitty-gritty details of the Nectar, let’s expand the scope and have a look at some of its main competitors in the game. While each mattress has unique characteristics that make it a different product in the market, it may be useful to contextualize these differences against other mattresses. Plus, who doesn’t love a little cross-referencing prior to making a large purchase?

Nectar vs Purple

Comparing Nectar and Purple is like comparing oranges and apples — both are lovely in their own right, but fundamentally distinct goods.

– One of the very noticeable distinctions comes in the Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer comfort layer. Unlike memory foam, this is a bouncy material that provides pressure relief without too much body contouring.

– This hyper-elastic polymer grid also makes the Purple”temperature neutral”, leading to a far cooler sleeping experience compared to Nectar.

– And finally, wherein the Nectar has practically no bounce, the Purple has an enormous amount of buoyant support.

Nectar vs Casper

While both the Casper and Nectar are built entirely of foam, they really have unbelievably divergent feels, with the latter featuring considerably more sinkage compared to the former.

– Additionally, one of the standout features of the Casper is its section of Zoned Support, which brings targeted relief to the hips and shoulders.

– This also means the Casper has a more balanced texture compared to the Nectar, endearing it to a wider selection of sleepers.

Everything Else You Need To Know About Nectar

Does It Sleep Hot?

Unlike the majority of other memory foam mattresses that tend to sleep a bit hot, the Nectar provides a high level of cooling. The top layer of gel memory foam, paired with the infused cover keeps the temperature cool, while giving maximum comfort.

Because the Nectar is a high density foam, some could find it a little warmer than a coil, latex, or hybrid foam mattress.

In general, our study did reveal that the Nectar is definitely one of the cooler memory foam mattresses in the marketplace nowadays.

Does It Have Any Smell?

Fresh from the box, the mattress is going to have a fairly powerful odor for the first two days. But after, the odor starts to fade, and in just a week is totally gone.

So, if the odor is something that actually bothers you, I suggest not sleeping on it for the first couple days.Sinking Into Memory Foam Mattress

Does It Require A Foundation?

The Nectar mattress can be sat directly on a box spring. Or if you want, a platform or any other flat supportive surface. It can also be used with almost any adjustable bed frame, that can fit an 11 inch mattress.

You can even use the Nectar right on the ground if that is what you’d prefer to do. Just make sure that there is not any moisture or water around.

What Is The Best Way To Care For Your Nectar?

The Nectar needs no flipping. But, it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly one or two times a year to stop it from wearing down or from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cool water with mild dish soap, to clean any stains or dirt. Always clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.

How Durable Is The Nectar Mattress?

Compared to other foam mattresses, the Nectar according to our research has a long lifespan.

The Nectar is made with high quality materials and meets  all industry standards. According to our research, the Nectar scores an 80 percent owner satisfaction rating and continues to increase in popularity today.

What is Nectar’s Warranty?

Nectar provides you with their superior “Forever Warranty”

This unique warranty guarantees Nectar materials, construction, quality, and durability for the purchasing party for eternity.

Since the company stands firmly behind their mattress, they are convinced that buyers will find the Nectar to be the only mattress they could possibly want or need.

During the initial one to five years of ownership, complete replacement is offered for free if the mattress is found to be faulty.

After the initial 5 years, replacements and repairs will be honored for a one time shipping charge of $100. If a flaw is found, the $100 will be waived.

Our studies reveal that consumers find Nectar’s Forever Warranty excellent.

Is the Nectar Mattress Right For You?

Since we’ve already taken a closer look at the mattress, I want to provide you with a few recommendations and some of the very common Nectar complaints:

Recommendations

– First and foremost, I’d suggest the Nectar for everyone who desires that classic memory foam texture, deep body shaping and all.

– More importantly, I’d say this mattress could be a real winner for side sleepers, that will benefit from its cushiony pressure relief in the shoulders and buttocks.

– Considering its excellent motion transfer and edge support outcomes, I would also say the Nectar might be a good pick for couples.

Nectar Complaints

– While a great deal of people will enjoy the thick layers of memory foam in this bed, I would say that stomach sleepers may find that it sends their buttocks out of alignment with their shoulders.

– It also has almost no bounce, which might be a dealbreaker for all those sleepers in search of buoyant support.
